You might want to change that to 6', otherwise people around here might think you're cruisin'....

You could always remove a limb..... ;-)

Don't fixate on pace too soon. Fixate on weight loss. Every pound you lose will equate to 2-3 seconds per mile faster. If you hit your weight loss target you will lose about 2 minutes per mile without doing anything else. As you get close to goal you can work on details, but for now set volume goals (how much time you will…

You tell the family you are going out for a 10 mile run and they ask if you are tapering already.

Oh, and just think about how much money you are saving on meds and junk food! ;-)

On the one hand, yes you will need to shell out cash regularly. However that will depend on how much you use them. One trick you might want to try is going in after a long run and try a new pair out on their treadmill. If you notice a big difference it is time to buy a new pair, if not no big deal. I like to try new shoes…

I use a HRM for tracking my target HR during workouts to my goals. The only HRM I am aware that works in water is the Polar FT80, and I can tell you from experience it is very inaccurate. If you do not do cardio outside of the water I do not believe this would benefit you much. It would give you more accurate calories…

Absolutely awesome. And hey, you look great without a bra.

Some decent advice above, but here is what is going to happen. You have a plan, hopefully a good one (I prefer Hal Higdon's). Stick to it. A good plan is proven and you won't need much else in terms of distance advice than it gives you. Biggest mistakes I've seen people make is going too far too soon and/or running too…

You earned it! Enjoy!

Huh, I would have figured you (and most of the others) for the cucumber type. Never realized my love of melons was shared by so many women....

Wow. All I can say is WOW! You look great.

^^^This. You need to keep your body going, but take some time to try some new things that aren't so stressful on your body (and mind). Swim, bike, walk, anything that gets the blood pumping. You put your body (and mind) through an incredible amount of stress. Take it easy and just do some other things for a bit. Ease back…

Feel free to add. I more than qualify....

Sounds like that Viagra disclosure to me. "Warning, if you have blood in your urine after 4 hours of our routine, you are too weak to participate and may die." Makes people want to prove they're tough enough.

Best of luck to you tomorrow!

Chocolate milk. I know it sounds corny and commercial, but it really works for me. I drink it right after my strenuous workouts and it helps.

Finally. Someone whose friend request rules are even more stringent than mine.

Congratulations on setting some goals and working toward them. Be prepared, running is addictive! The key to running distance is slow and steady with the training. I personally like Hal Higdon's training programs. He has them for various distances and difficulties. Too many people try to do too much too quickly and get…

Biking is a great way to work on cardio without pounding your joints into the ground. The key is to do it with intensity. With that said, marathon training is marathon training. You have to put in the miles. I would recommend LOTS of core work to help maintain form as you fatigue. Planks, planks and more planks.

With those long runs and your weekly mileage October should be no problem. Pull up one of Hal Higdon's training plans and map it out. As long as you are careful not to push too hard too fast you should be in great shape!

Seems like the Puritans still have influence, eh? All of the gyms I went to in Europe were coed and clothing optional. Made for some awkward moments when really hot women walked in. I remember getting a massage butt nekid while naked men and women walked around. No big deal. In the US, if it's separate men's and women's,…

Absolutely! Anything is possible if you commit and stay focused. I am yet another example like the people above. When I was 38 my doctors told me they thought they could get me walking again after severe knee injuries. I spent 6 years in extreme pain and gained a lot of weight. I developed a number of serious health issues…

I feel so sorry for the husband to be. (puts head in hands and shakes head)

Now hold on a minute, folks. I have to BEG my wife to stay away from my clothes. She loves to accidentally put something red in with my whites and suddenly every day becomes a breast cancer awareness day for me! This is not just a guy thing, women are like that too! (yeah, I know, the ratio is probably 15 million to 1, but…

Congratulations on your success! No, you are not underweight. My wife is 5'3" and 115 (don't tell her I posted this or she will kill me) and looks great. Agree with the folks above about showing them BMI tables or other references to healthy weight relative to height. One tip. If you are still talking about losing weight…

I'll go with he slower uphill and faster downhill argument. You use exponentially more energy going uphill than downhill at the same pace. My objective in a race is to use my energy consistently. Slower uphill, make up for it on the downside and keep my pace on the same overall target. To say you should run faster uphill…

Your business is your business, theirs....well, isn't. Don't worry about anyone else but yourself. Otherwise you'll come across as judgmental. If they are interested in what you are doing they will ask.
