  • Ran 2 half marathons and 1 full last year. Ran the Phoenix half last weekend. I have 5 more half's, a full and a half Ironman scheduled this year. Always looking for more running friends. Feel free to add.
  • All of the above plus one thing. I read a study that followed weight loss for a group over 10 years. The biggest common factor of the participants who lost weight and kept it off was that they kept a log of their food over the 10 years. So here I am rapidly approaching 500 days in a row. MFP makes it incredibly easy. I ran…
  • This^^^^. It depends on your goals. When I was focused on losing weight I lifted 3 days a week alternating upper and lower body and I did cardio 3 days a week. When I began to focus on races I cut lifting to 2 days a week and ran 4-5 days a week. Right now I am training for my first half Ironman. I am swimming 3 days a…
  • Gotta be brutally honest on this one. If those are your choices before the workout do you really think it matters? Just sayin'.
  • Yesterday I thought I had finally found a thread for tall and big guys. Sent out friend quests. Then realized all of the posts were from last April! I will say, though, I have some pretty buff female friends. I'm betting more than a few of them could kick my butt in the gym!
  • Remarkable! Thank you for sharing!
  • If you can get to a gym I would highly recommend adding a weight lifting component to your exercise regimen. You do not need to spend hours lifting, but a quality upper body/lower body rotation 2-3 days a week for about 45-50 minutes can really help. Happy to share some routines if you are interested, just drop me a note.
  • I eat Subway all of the time with great success. With that said, the haters are about to appear!
  • Finally a post for all the big guys! Count me in! 6'2" and working on being trim and fit.

  • Absolutely incredible. Congratulations.
  • This^^^^ Your body will retain anytime you make a substantive change to your routine. Give it a week or two and it will normalize.
  • Rock on cold weather runners! It was 27 degrees when my wife and I left the house for the New Years 5k and polar bear dive into Lake Washington on Tuesday. Loved every minute of it! The only recommendation I would make, since you said you are running in the dark, is a flashing LED vest and headlamp. I almost got run over…
  • I can't believe how many calories I am burning trying to keep up with these posts before they get shut down. Got booted from the last one right as I was getting to the final page.
  • Outstanding accomplishment!
  • Agree with everyone above. Any non-weightbearing cross-training is great, cycling and swimming especially. I run 3-4x per week, cycle 1-2x and swim 1-2x. I also lift upper body 1-2x. I used to weight train lower body but found I was getting too tight and sore when I was training for a marathon. My new routine leaves me…
  • Outstanding results!
  • 1,474 miles running. Starting off the New Year with a 5k Polar Bear dash in the morning!
  • First, know this equation. You are reaching slightly over 90% of your max heart rate. Nothing necessarily wrong with that, just know that if you hit 100% you will pass out. You'll know when you hit it because, well, you"ll pass out. Could get awkward on a treadmill but makes for a great YouTube video! Do some…
  • I love seeing stories like this. Good for you!
  • Confession to make. I broke my own rules and bought my wife running pants. I researched her size well, but she knows my rules and is going to give me crap no matter how well they fit. Deep down she'll like them, though!
  • Has a pulse.
  • 1,361 as of this morning and counting!
  • Ok, a few quick points. To those that don't like the gifts I purchased for my wife, that is fine. The point is that I purchas those things that SHE wants, not what you want. If I were buying for you I would purchase that trip you really wanted and might throw in lotions and/or a bikini. Maybe a really exotic activity or…
  • I would point out that those boxes are exactly what Lush bath bombs come in......
  • Friend request sent.
  • I am dumbfounded by the number of morbidly obese posters that are offended or shocked by the school taking an active role in educating not only the child, but the family, in proper nutrition. This should be a great thing! I wish we could have far more honest conversations about what it is to be healthy. Do those of you…
  • I'd say a visit to her pediatrician is in order and you should listen very carefully to their advice. If the doctor agrees with the school assessment, let the nurse visit. You might find it helpful for the whole family. We too often get defensive about criticism that is meant to be constructive. Kids know nothing about…
  • If you want to know your real BF content get a DEXA scan. Google it and you should find a sports med clinic that has one near you. They cost about $100 each. It will tell you your body fat, including how much in each limb, torso and your head. It will also tell you bone density and water. Do not trust those machines at the…
  • Not unusual to for your body to react this way. If you haven't been exercising regularly your body doesn't know what to do. Give it at least two more weeks and you should see a big difference.
