I definitely agree with the folks that say take it slow, but one other thing I would point out. You mention you start to burn out at 30 minutes into your run, which is probably about 3 miles in. That is a common mental block distance. For some reason people hit a wall about that time. The key on mental blocks is to force…

Dang, I....um....my friend can't complain anymore. He just received an anonymous friend request. Woo Hoo! One of the gang!
-
You should be thankful. You could be some poor sap that has NEVER had someone send a friend request without a message like...uh...a friend of mine. Yeah, a friend of mine. I'm sure it probably gives him a major complex that he isn't good looking enough, or funny enough, or active enough that people would just send out…

Quantum of Solace. What they did to that DBS in the opening scene should be a crime.

110.6 with a one week flu that cost me another 20!

THIS!!! Also, don't push too hard on your first half. When I am trying a new distance for the first time I set my goal to finish. I work on time in the races after that. My first half I set a time goal and ended up getting hurt at mile 6. Made the next 7.1 not so good. Took it easier on my next and had a blast. Good luck…

Training for the Rock 'n Roll Las Vegas full at the moment. Always looking for new friends.

I have used the Hal Higdon plan and it has worked very well for me. He has plans for every distance designed to minimize risk of injury and maximize success. If you've done the 5k, try a 10k plan. Then start training for your half after you have completed the 10k. Several of my friends have tried to push themselves to do…

I accomplished my weight loss by watching what I eat and exercising regularly, but no special diet. I use the daily and weekly nutritional content part of MFP to alter things such as the brands of bread I purchase, using dijon mustard instead of mayo, etc. I also bought a small electric scale to measure portion sizes. You…

This!!!! There is no other.

I have a Polar FT80 and I swear by it for one reason. It will test your current fitness level and set target heart rate zones to either maintain or improve your current fitness level. You pick whatever exercise you like, but you have to push yourself to the proper zones. It updates your targets based on your previous…

This. I have this problem a lot. Body Glide helps. Also check the shirts you are wearing. I have found some cause this more than others. Good luck!

I'm in. These last pounds are KILLING me!

Totally agree with everyone else saying yes you need rest days. With that said, I hear you on the soreness, so you may want to consider what is called an active recovery day. Rather than just sit around, go for a walk, a leisurely bike ride or my favorite, a yoga stretching class. I have a yoga studio nearby that does…

Go for it! Set your goal to finish, don't worry about time. If you can, get outside as much as possible. If you are worried about your knees or feet go to a running store and have them fit you for good shoes. I recently went shoe shopping after a 13 mile run and was so happy I did. My body gave me instant feedback on each…

I used that program for my first half (Seattle Rock 'n Roll) last June. Worked great for me. My wife is finishing her first half training next week and I am using Higdon's Novice 2 full marathon for the Las Vegas Rock 'n Roll in December. His programs work very well and you will definitely be ready for your race. I use the…

Not sure I'd call myself hot, but I'm older, male and on MFP. 3 outta 4 works for me!

Awesome! You look great!

I invested in a high end HRM first (Polar FT80) and then picked up a Fitbit a little while ago. Love having the two of them together! The HRM handles all of my workouts (cardio and lifting) and the Fitbit picks up my general activity level. I love the Fitbit feature that allows you to set it to know you are working out so…

Awesome!

I just started yoga about 5 weeks ago and really wish I had done it from the start of my weight loss. It has really helped my running a lot. Don't worry or be self-conscious. Anyone that would be critical has no business being in a yoga class. Do it, be confident, and enjoy it!

Oh, and get a lot of motivated friends on MFP. Just reading their news feeds will help motivate you.
-
I take MFP with me everywhere. If I have to dine out I pull up the restaurant and pick my lunch/dinner from the MFP lists, not by browsing the restaurant menu. It has saved me a ton of calories (as well as sodium like you mentioned).

Rule of thumb, if you work out really hard or know you are going to be sore after a workout, take a long slow walk. Your muscle need circulation to get out lactic acid and rebuild. I don't ever take a day completely off if I am sore, I walk until I feel pretty loose.
-
Amazing. You are an inspiration.
-
Apparently I am completely missing the boat on this one. I've never had anyone do ANY of those things to me. I'm suddenly starting to get self-conscious....
-
You look amazing. Great job. Your family must be so proud of you. Best to you, your husband and his safe return. I bet he can't wait to get back!

Love it. Use it 24/7 as well. The sync feature is great. It helps keep me on track (along with all of my other gizmos).

The best I have come up with is Nike + Run. It won't tell you when to speed up, but it will tell you how fast you are going and you can set the frequency of the feedback. I find their Run app to be much more accurate than the others I have tried (like MapMyRun). The problem you will face is trying to use it on a treadmill…
