  • This documentary that aired on PBS really helped me understand the physiology of running and the possibility of the human body. See what you think :) And either way, you are doing a great job of changing your life and honoring your strength through fitness. Keep it up!!!!!…
  • It must be really challenging to get training time with a little punkin. Do you have a treadmill? If so, you can do some running in sets (20 minutes here and there)...try to think of it as getting cumulative miles on your legs and that will increase your ability all together as you get closer. Also, doing high impact…
  • We started with a early last November. I ran until I couldn't then walked until I caught my breath then ran more. Ended up running almost all of it and finished running. You'll do it! Pace yourself slow at first and you'll have a blast--5k races are so fun because there is a lot of excitement and a wide array of fitness…
  • You CAN do it! Look at your amazing weight loss!! We started with running (slowly) for 2 mins and walking for 2 mins. I remember when we got to running for 4 mins and walking for 1 min I thought I would die! Every step is a step closer. Keep it up!
  • We ran it in 2:47...just under 3. Very slow but our goal was just to finish. Good luck to you!! Keep us posted!
  • I just wear nylon/polyester/lycra blend underwear--the kind that don't leave pantie lines...you know the kind we women are not supposed to wear for long? I ONLY wear them for running and they are so much cheaper than the ones that are made for running (and honestly, it's the same concept--got them at Target). I've been…
  • You will be able to! It is such an amazing feeling to go from that run/walk stage to just running (don't get me wrong--it is hard as hell the first few times you do it! but then something clicks and it gets a little easier each time). That was the case for me just about 6 months ago. Good luck meeting your next…
  • That is AWESOME!!!! It is a truly amazing thing how our bodies develop strength and endurance. So much of it is mental so stay psyched and know that your 1 mile acheivement is really a terrific milestone of how far you've come and where you can go with your fitness level!!! Stay with it and I know you are going to be…
  • Thanks! That's helpful. My boyfriend drinks it quite a bit and has been having some trouble losing weight even though he works out like fiend. We have started to suspect diet coke as the culprit. Thanks again!
  • You SHOULD feel proud! That is amazing! I've been training for 3 months and running even 2 miles still kicks my butt (even though I can run 4 if I "have" to). You should really put some training it--I bet you would be a really natural runner!! (very unlike me). :) Staci
  • I don't use a gym. I tried to for a while but it just seemed like an extra expense and the time it took to get there, get home, coordinate showering, etc...was too much of a hassle. I use a treadmill at home, do yoga at home, use DVD's, and run and walk outside. It works for me.
  • Have just completed my first 5k a week ago so a bit ahead of you but I remember week 3, 4, and 5 feeling tough so if that's where you are, hang in there!! It's very exciting once you start to get into the rhythm. Good luck!! Staci
  • Just read your post and so glad to see someone else who is training for a half. I just ran my first 5K in 20 years a week ago and my boyfriend wants to train for a half to run in April--he is a beginning runner, too, so we're both in the same boat. Anyway, it's good to see others just getting started! Good luck!!
  • That is too bad to hear. I am new to the site and love the features about tracking food and exercise. I have spent very little time reading posts so maybe have missed the drama in that sense. Best of luck to you in your quest for wellness and fitness. Love your signature quote!! :)
  • This is such an AMAZING resource. It will increase your awareness of nutrition and help you find balance. Plus everyone is sooo supportive!! One day at a time and you can do it!!
  • Don't fret! It is a good thing--your body is recalibrating its set point. That means that you will be better able to keep the weight off once you lose it. Increase your calories just a bit for a week or two then go back to 1200 and I bet you'll lose the rest of the weight easily. Remember, our bodies are really efficient…
