So I have been at the same weight for a month now. I fluctuate between 142 and 145. I just don't know what I am doing wrong anymore. I eat 1200 calories a day, sometimes less and I excersice 5 to 6 days a week about an 30 min to 45 min a day doing walking or treadmill and still no weight loss. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Tanya

    Eat MORE!

NEVER go under 1200 calories a day!

Maybe you are not eating enough?

1200 NET (1200+anything burned through exercise) is the minimum you should be eating. Eating less consistently can slow your metabolism, thus hindering weight loss.

If you don't eat enough you will end up either just not losing in general or gain. I've been there.

As the other poster said, I think you need to start eating more and you will start to lose again, with the exercise you will be going under 1200 net.

I work out every day and find the more I eat the more I lose. I never go under 1200 though. Start increasing your intake to say 1250/1300 net and see how that works for you.

Your body needs the fuel to do the workouts.....
  • Up your calorie in-take to at least your BMR. Also, think about what you're eating. Fresh, whole-grain foods are always better than processed foods.

Like the others have said, you most likely need to be eating more. Try increasing your caloric intake by a couple hundred calories and see if that helps. If your body isn't getting enough calories it basically goes into 'starvation' mode and slows down your metabolism to conserve energy. Good luck!

Don't fret! It is a good thing--your body is recalibrating its set point. That means that you will be better able to keep the weight off once you lose it. Increase your calories just a bit for a week or two then go back to 1200 and I bet you'll lose the rest of the weight easily. Remember, our bodies are really efficient and that means they adjust to reduced caloric intake in case of famine...which is great if there is a famine but LOL no risk of that! Be patient and respect your body and just keep working toward being healthy!!

    Hang in there!

  • Give your body a jolt by mixing up your workout routine. Try doing something different - elliptical, a workout video, Wii/Kinect, spinning/biking. I did elliptical for mths and it worked great and then I hit a plateau for over a mth. I threw in Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred and the weight started coming off again. Good luck :)

depends on what your 1200 calories is... if it is 1200 calories of crap and carbs, or 1200 calories of meat, fruit, veges, whole grains.

I eat mostly chicken and turkey, always baked or sauteed, vegies and lots of fruits. I don't eat bread and eat rice and pasta very rarely. I eat quinoa instead.

I was stuck in that same exact weight range for about 3 months. To finally break that (now down to 139-140), I ate the same amount of calories (1400) but seriously increased my protein, reduced carbs, got a personal trainer at the gym, and started running a lot more. I don't eat the calories that I 'earn' from exercise, because I found that I maintain weight if I do that, rather than lose.
Some of the changes I made were very difficult-- like I no longer eat a big bowl of cereal for breakfast (my biggest former nutrition flaw), even though breakfast cereals are some of my favorite foods; and I spent a lot of money on my PT, but in the end it was worth it because I now have a whole arsenal of strength training routines I probably would have never discovered on my own.
Another thing I did which has seemed to help was actually to cut back on fruit (I used to eat a TON of bananas), and the fruit I do have now I try to keep in the morning and afternoon. I've stopped grabbing fruit for dessert, and instead have a cup of tea.

Good luck! I know it's hard to break out of a plateau like that, and I thought mine would never end...but it's definitely possible!!
