The portion control has been a FAR, FAR, FAR bigger struggle for me than simply eating healthier foods. I'm sitting here literally starving, and more or less have felt hungry to some degree or another since 2010. It hasn't gotten better for me.

Except that the only way I can stomach most veggies is if they're super-cooked. They make my throat itch otherwise (don't ask me to explain why, I don't know).

I actually base my choices around being able to fit mayo calories in. I can't stand mustard, and don't like "dry" sandwiches. I also like mayo. People seem to fall either into the "I love mayo" or "I hate mayo" camp with no in-betweens.

I'm a fan of "most things in moderation". I have a Disney World trip in November w/the family, and my intent is to just try to be semi-reasonable with eating, and walk all over the place to do no worse than maintain weight during the trip.

Bacon gets a bad rap, IMHO. Calorie-wise, it's not that bad unless you do what I used to, which is eat half a pound plus at one sitting. If you stick to a couple strips (and probably avoid the nitrates) it's not all bad.

Is there truth to the notion that in general, men crave grease and meat and women crave sugar and chocolate more? I'm not saying I don't enjoy a good sundae, or a woman can't crave a good steak or burger, but when you see these posts, it seems like the women always post something sugary or high-carb, and the men are quite…

It's a way to vent and blow off steam for me.

Anything at a Chinese Buffet Burgers Fries (GOOD ones, there are BAD fries too) Mashed potatoes Mac and Cheese Lots of them...I have issues.

If I were a woman, I'd want to look like her. I'd also have a bunch of mirrors in the house and probably never venture outside. :)

Me, but healthier.

#11 I do all the time. #5...well, couldn't "MacGyver" be the word for it in English??

It's a LOT more walking that most of us usually do, so log it. It's hard to determine how much it really works out to, since some of it is standing in line, etc though. Considering how my feet ache after going to a park, why NOT count it?

OK, well from experience I *KNOW* that's BS!

I'm not saying he's right, but maybe he LIKED that girl. My wife and I are doing this together, which makes it a LOT easier. See some of my other posts, but I think a lot of guys fear that the woman they love is going to turn into someone they don't like, or who doesn't like them. It's not just the "she's gonna leave me…

Let me pose THIS question, just to play "Devil's Advocate" here. Outside of food issues, have you changed? In other words, do you reach the point where you no longer like to do the activities you used to, because of the concern that unhealthy food will be there? A lot of guys oppose a wife/girlfriend eating healthier,…

Me first.

Alyssa Milano. And my wife would give me permission. Laminated list, ya know...

We have a little three year old alarm clock who wakes us up by 5:45 even if the alarm breaks...

What do you do, go to bed at 8pm?
-
I need it too, since I'd rather chew on chards of glass than get out of bed any earlier than I already do.

This all helps some - thanks!! I'm still struggling with portion sizes. In fact, I have to change my line of thinking when it comes to cooking food. My natural/old tendency is to think to myself that "If I can only eat one-fifth of it now, what's the point of spending all the time making it" since a lot of times, I just…

Not a problem for me, but I was curious. I don't worry much myself about the timing...and in fact, if my wife and I are planning a dinner out where we know the calories are going to be on the wrong side of 1000 for the meal, we both eat VERY light for breakfast and lunch, basically just to avoid being starving the whole…

^^^ THIS I have the same thing - my breakfast has to be high in protein and low in carbs. If I have yogurt, eggs, or even a little bacon, I'm OK. If it's something like cereal or my occasional treat of pancakes or waffles, I'm ravenous by 10:30. However, I do better overall eating SOMETHING for breakfast. I also seem to be…

I don't know about that...since a lot of MFP'ers can attest that "eating more to weigh less" has WORKED for them. if not the metabolism thing, then what?
-
Good example. I just had lunch, and honestly, I feel just as hungry as before I ate.
-
I had one 6 months ago, does that count? Clear as a bell BTW.
-
I'm always hungry, but my body still has to adjust to "normal" portion sizes. Eating until I'm full is how I got in this mess.

Well...I have to tighten my belt one more loop. I have SLIGHTLY more energy...but thanks to 2 young kids and work, I still don't get the sleep I'd like to. I don't ever see myself WANTING to work out...It's probably something I'll always dread at least until I am "in the moment" once I get started.
