pizza hut Tuscani Pasta calorie question
Although not "healthy" - once in a while I splurge at Pizza Hut. I still try to keep my calories in limits, however, and I'm puzzled. They do publish nutrition info but don't make it clear on the Tucscani Pasta just what a serving is. http://www.pizzahut.com/Files/PDF/PH&WSNationalBrochure4.13.10.pdf You can order a "pan"…

time constraints for a gym membership
Having some success mostly due to light/moderate activity and watching food. However, I need to step up the exercise part. My wife and I do some stuff at home but a part of me thinks a gym membership might motivate me. There's one in the downstairs of the building I work in. That said, although the cost is a consideration,…

who still craves the bad stuff?
So...I hear lots of people say that, over time, your body stops craving "bad" foods, and you stop feeling hungry all the time. For me, that hasn't been true, and I've lost about 20 lbs. I'd still tear the *kitten* out of a Chinese buffet if I could do so without consequences. I also still feel hungry A LOT, but it might…

eat until I'm full? that's how I got fat to start with!!
Lots of MFP'ers say to "eat until you're full." Now, I get the idea that the brain and body aren't always in sync, and sometimes it takes a few minutes to realize I'm full. However...I'll eat my smaller, healthier portions, and even a half hour later, I'm still HUNGRY. My biggest problem these years has been the gargantuan…

where should I set my weightloss goal?
I'm a 5'7" tall male. Being on the shorter side, I seem to have an aversion to being truly "skinny" since I am not muscular, and my natural build seems to make it VERY difficult for me to build any real muscle definition. Even at 250 lbs my arms, even my upper arms, are skinny but flabby. Ironically, however, I have decent…

shaking the "never enjoy XXXXX food again" feeling
I do let myself have treats, just to get that out of the way. However, even the last time I lost weight in 2010 (I lost 40, then fell off the wagon), even at the end when I was "used to" eating better, I STILL craved the bad stuff. All that talk that my tastes would change was not true for me. How do you shake that feeling…

good meal ideas for the time-constrained cook
Wife and I both work. We can both cook, but with two little ones running around it's difficult to do anything too elaborate (we'll forget for a moment that the 3 year old won't eat ANYTHING but his favorites). What are some good "starter" recipes? We're open to most things but neither of us do seafood. Otherwise we're…

water intake
OK, so...is there a guideline to know when I REALLY need to drink water? If I drink the "recommended" - I never do anything but pee. I can't function at work getting up every 30-45 minutes to take a p**s! The recommended daily water doesn't account for water in food. Is there a way to tell I am getting enough or need more?

to carb or not to carb...and more
I'm male, I turn 35 in August. I'm on Round 2 here at MFP, in 2010 I lost almost 40 lbs then fell off the wagon in a spectacular way, haha. I gained 30 of it back. So here I am again. Anyway, I seem to be losing 2-3 lbs/week on the "1 lb/week" calorie level as calculated by MFP. I realize that at the start (I'm in week 4)…

who else is...
...just saying "screw it" for Thanksgiving only? One day (well a few altogether) a year to forget all this calorie counting... Am I alone? I mean, I am going to be conscious of food choices, but not so much on portions, and will still probably opt for water as a drink.

the scale and clothes disagree
The scale says I've lost 28 lbs. My wife says she can tell, and in the mirror, so can I. However, I am still the same clothes size, even though I now have to fasten my belt 4 holes further in than I used to. I wear a 42" waist, and a 40" is still uncomfortably tight. Same with shirts, I'm still really a XXL. I am able to…

achy and sore after very limited exercise or activity
I've been doing a lot of household type work, such as carrying in heavy tile and other materials for a bathroom remodel 400 feet from the truck, etc, as well as some walking lately. I have mild muscle aches pretty much all over that aren't bad enough to keep me from doing "regular" activity, but still, I notice it. It…

aches and pains WORSE with weight loss??
I have mild to moderate arthritis in my right ankle and knee. Also occasional back pain, lower or middle, and sometimes, my right shoulder blade. Usually it kicks in after lots of walking or other activity (like today, picking out bathroom tile and pushing a cartful of 300lbs worth of tile around Home Depot for 2 hours.)…

how do you calculate "maintenance" calories?
I'm FAR from this point, but it is more of a curiosity - how would I calculate my maintenance calories once I hit my goal weight?
-
what have been your major eye-opening things you've learned?
For me, I've learned two major things when I started paying attention and losing weight. 1. How much I was really eating, portion-wise... When I started weighing/measuring food, after I got over the initial shock of "that's it, that's all I can eat?" I realized that I was routinely eating 3 - 4 servings of most foods at…

why don't I look thinner than I do?
I've lost 20 lbs. My stomach IS noticeably smaller, and my pants are loose enough that I have to go another notch closer in on my belt, but I still can't fit into the next waist size down (although I do have one pair of shorts that was too snug and fits OK now)...also, my, um, man boobs haven't really shrunk...I'd think 20…

need meal ideas...
We haven't really been able to nix the box food yet... For a couple with a 16 month old and when usually at least one of us doesn't get home until 7 most nights, what are some good healthy food ideas? We're getting bored with what we know...

who else has very uneven loss?
I've had periods where I've been flat or gained around a pound over a 10-day period, then suddenly drop 2 or 3 lbs, only to slow back down or flatline again...am I the only one that does this?

Sin foods - give them up or change/reduce them?
Quick survey-type post w/comments welcome. Do you have foods you completely gave up? Or have you simply changed them to make them healthier and/or reduced the quantity and frequency at which you eat them? For me, the only thing I have (tried) to mostly eliminate is anything with high-fructose corn syrup. And for that I…

olive oil mayo...any good?
...and is it "good" enough compared to regular mayo to have as a "semi-sinful" condiment? I love mayo - have had almost none, but saw that Olive Oil mayo (Kraft and a few others sell it now) is about half the cals. Who has tried it?

the portion control puzzle...
I've lost 8 pounds so far, and I admittedly have done it by using portion control, cutting out sugars and sweets (aside from very small treats) and just being a little bit more selective with food choices - nothing too drastic. However, I'm still feeling hungry a lot of the time and still struggle with "accepting" that a…

32 yo male, ready to make a move
Hi everyone. Seems there aren't many men on here. I'm 32, 5'7, male, and 247 lbs as of Friday May 21. I wasn't always fat, in fact, until I was about 14 I could eat like a horse and was so skinny you could see my ribs. By the time I graduated from college I was 175, which, although still "overweight", I think would look…
