Sure I look at other women in the gym. I notice if they're pretty or not, their body shape, what they're doing for a workout. I watch what the guys are doing for workouts too. I can't say I've ever noticed if somebody shaved or not. But for the most part I'm absorbed in my program with the difficult squats, deadlifts, etc.…

Many people on this site have had much success with that book. I suspect it'd work for men as well as women, especially if you're new. Good luck!

Haha I don't think the passengers would appreciate that kind of maneuvering!

It's just the air temperature. Air isn't a great conductor of heat. Now if you were in water with a temp of 130-146 degrees that would be dangerous. I grew up with a sauna (wood fired stove) and we routinely took them at much higher temperatures than 130-146. You just don't stay in that long, take cooling breaks and for…

I wanted to be a fighter pilot. It didn't work out. I'm an airline pilot now.

Thanks for the great post. I think working out makes me a better parent, I feel better and thus am more patient plus I set a good example. It's hard but the alternative - just letting yourself go- isn't an alternative in my book.

A gay waiter hit on me. Hey it's few and far between when a woman does it so I'll take what I can! Just in case I'm not clear, I'm straight as a line between two points. But I've come a long way from my little homophobic red neck upbringing and just take it as a complement.

It's going to happen here and there. As others said log it, own it, figure out what set it off. Then forgive yourself and move on. The biggest change from my current success and past attempts is getting right back on that horse every time I get bucked off. Consistency is more important than perfection.

Airline pilot and Coast Guard reservist. I generally like my jobs.

I used to exclusively use the trap bar for deadlifts. It's good for your form but it's really different from traditional deadlifts. In my non-scientific anecdotal experience it works your muscles more like squats, there's less back and core involvement and more from the quads and glutes. My opinion. Still a worthy exercise!

I lost weight once while recovering from an injury without exercise. It's just a lot harder that way. You really have to micromanage what you eat, measure/weight & track everything. When there's a will there's a way!

Amazing that's awesome!

A huge week for me as far as NSV's: 1) Set new personal bests in the gym for amount of weight lifted or tied personal bests 2) Visited a friend and his family on Sunday evening for dinner and they asked what I was doing (eating, exercise) because I was looking really fit 3) During a class for my work a bodybuilder who I…

I've had the P90X program for over a year. I don't do it 90 days at a time but I use it in conjunction with regular lifting at the gym and running. I travel for a living so it's a great program that I can do in my hotel rooms when I need to.

I think women are just better at the peer support aspect of meeting the challenge of weight loss than men are. I was consistently one of the very small percentage of men back when I did weight watchers too. I suspect men would greatly benefit from incorporating some community support in their health and fitness journey.

I was already on this fitness and health journey. But when I started losing my hair, along with other signs of agering, I kicked it into a higher gear. If I'm going to be bald I want to look as good as I can. And even though I'm a married middle aged guy with kids who drives a minivan, I don't want to be invisible to…

Looks like you're a person open to suggestions and willing to try things. I see success in your future! As far as having friends who aren't into lifting, hopefully you can find a different friend who is. It doesn't mean you have to ditch your old friends but it really helps having somebody who shares your interests and…

So you said you're in college? Have you looked into a weight lifting P.E. elective? Short of that another book that I've seen many mentions of is "The New Rules of Lifting for Women". I can't vouch for it personally but it seems to be very popular and many women on this site have had positive results with it. A book I…

I really like the show. I was at a conference and one of the speakers was a woman who works at the NASA jet propulsion laboratory; she started off by saying that they weren't quite as socially awkward as the TV show characters!

I'm a Coast Guard reserve officer. I use MyFitnessPal to help keep me in check and ready for our bi-annual height/weight/bodyfat measurements. While I complain about the standard (at 5'9" I'm supposed to be a maximum of 186, I graduated high school 20 years ago at a not-fat 184 lbs) I'm kind of glad on the other hand to…

Bait and switch! Here I thought I was going to read about a really neuratic person. Heck if I'm over by 200 I consider it a successful day, now over by 2000 not so much...

I agree with many of the other posters; if you don't like it just find something that different that's beneficial to your health goals. Life's too short to be eating stuff you don't like just out of principle. I have found that there are some brands that I just don't like and others that I'm okay with. I travel for a…

I love to see fit seniors, it shows me that we can be active and healthy for our whole life if we take care of ourselves and don't have the misfortune of getting some bad disease. Perhaps it's easy to say at age 37 but I'm more interested in living a full and active life till my last day versus just living a long time.

You're a great example for women (and men) everywhere. I'm glad that the word is spreading about the effectiveness of heavy lifting for women. Your best areas are your arms/shoulders and ab section, though you look great all over. I lift heavier (when I can) also though that's not so uncommon for men. I switched last month…

I rock a Chrysler minivan. With 3 little kids it's about survival right now, not cool points. Anything that makes my life easier. Second car is a 2004 Jeep Liberty. It was great in Alaska, it's overkill in Texas.

Hmm I dunno. I thought it was age!

I love/hate it. I dread putting the in the dvd's and getting started and associated suffering. But it works! Plus I travel for a living so I can do them in my hotel room (well minus the pullup bars). It will get you in great shape.
