It can take weeks, even months for the effects of such a low calorie diet to become apparent. Right now you are feeling good, but your hair, your skin and your organs are slowly but surely deteriorating. And by the time you realise your hair is like straw and your skin is rough and dry it will be a bit late, it will take a…

Have you weighed your bananas, chicken, avo, walnuts and almonds? Or are you eyeballing? They are all quite calorific for a small amount (well, apart from the chicken really, but still) and "a handful" of almonds could vary a huge amount....

For me personally, exercising does help my mood. I have suffered from several bouts of depression in the past, once I started exercising on a regular basis it did help my overall mood and now I now if I'm heading down the black hole again it's probably because I've slacked off. First thing though, I assume you have spoken…

You haven't gained 5 pounds unless you ate about 15 000 calories over you allowance! What you have got is food still in your body and no doubt some water weight. It will drop off in a few days. It's a new day, move on, shrug your shoulders, life happens. If you are really upset about it, do a little more exercise this week…

They don't work and can actually cause damage to internal organs by shoving them in to the wrong place.

No you won't, it's not possible. Accurately eat at the numbers MFP has given you and maintain whilst you recover. Surely getting the root canal done and spending a little while recovering and being able to get back to exercise after makes more sense than NOT having it done and being in agony for the rest of your life...?…

Your best bet is to enter all your details onto MFP and go from there. Aim for a pound a week and go slow and steady, that way you won't feel deprived and the weight is more likely to stay off than if you suddenly start depriving yourself of all the things you enjoy. Eat what you like that fits into your calorie goals. Aim…

You should weigh yourself first thing in the morning after using the toilet. Weighing yourself later in the day is fairly pointless because you are also carrying around everything you have eaten and drunk up until that point, which probably varies from day to day.

Um, not eating anything for four days IS starving, just so's you know...! Please give me a link to a scientific study that shows that eating nothing for four days is recommended. Thank you.

I really hope so. If not... OP - You're approx 320 lbs, you're doing 4 hour training sessions of which one hour of them is running on a treadmill, keeping your heart rate between 180-190 beats per minute. What for the whole hour?? Are you still a smoker as per your profile pic? I wouldn't worry about your fluctuating…

I have the Forerunner 15. I love it. It's not the fanciest or most expensive but it's been really reliable, has the GPS (love to look at my little map after I've been somewhere with the GPS on). It has a step counter as well, which I like as I like to get at least my 10,000 in every day. I can also swim in it. The chest…

I'm probably the worst parent ever because, you know what, life is boring sometimes, and children need to learn that. Also, it's an important lesson for children to learn how to care for pets, and walking them is one of those things, come rain or shine, boring or not. But then, I had my daughter, at 5 years old, with…

Definitely go for a gait analysis done at a proper shop. I struggled awfully with pain when I tried to start running but after getting the right shoe for me (Brooks Adrenalin GTS for over pronation) it made a world of difference. Not sure that children's trainers will be the way to go unless they do specialist running…

Please could you advise the names of the toxins that milk thistle removes from the liver. I keep hearing "removes toxins" from you but would genuinely like to know the actual names of the ones it deals with.

Where's the one for the girls....?! I want...

I have a Garmin Forerunner 15 and I never understood it either... so I disabled the function and now I'm happy! Still clueless, but happy! I shall watch this thread with interest to see if someone can explain it in "small words"! :)

A life without bacon would be so very sad... :( (well, unless you're a vegetarian and then it's probably just fine! :D ) There is ALWAYS a way to fit bacon into your life. I would also check the particular bacon you are eating, mine is lovely lean back bacon and no way is it 500 cals for 4 slices!!

I just weigh out and cook one serving in a small pan... cups are not accurate when weighing any kind of pasta, if you give the cup a shake you can fit more in. Maybe it's just me, but it seems a bit too complicated and inaccurate to use a cup and a microwave. Am I missing something?

Just want to point out that the pills do zero for the weight loss, it's the "when used in conjunction with diet and exercise" that does the trick. When you buy the pills, the only thing that is worth the money, is that advice in the small print. So here you are, for zero pounds / dollars, totally free (I'm feeling generous…

Everything will be fine, although as fr33sia12 said, sniff the milk and yoghurts and I'd use them soonish.

Facts: A lady died doing what she obviously loved doing. She was a vegan. It's very sad for her family. We all die at some time. She may or may not have died due to this lifestyle. Until it's proven 100% it's kind of irrelevant and although it's sad for her to have not completed her quest, it's not newsworthy in my…

If I remember correctly, you were doing 750 a day... Still doing that?

I used to suffer awfully after doing most exercise but then I saw an osteopath and found out I needed a shoe insert for a shorter leg and then I had my gait analysed and got a decent pair of trainers. And voila, I still run like a tortoise through treacle, but no more excruciating pain the day after!

I agree planks are great for tummy muscle improvement, but half your body weight in water? Seriously? I'm 72kgs, so you're telling me, in order to lose weight I need to drink THIRTY-SIX KILO's of water?! That's THIRTY-SIX LITRES of water A DAY???? I certainly hope not!!

You could ask Christopher Hitchens, doesn't he have all the answers to all your questions...?

Now you are just being silly. AA clearly has a success rate, there are people on this very thread who say so. Are they not for real? Besides, it is really hard to tell what success rate ANY program, (AA or any other), has because even those who do not complete all the steps may have gained something from even going to one…

Oh my word, are you for real? I'm an atheist but I have friends of numerous faiths who strongly believe they have witnessed the hand of their god in their lives, they have many "shreds of proof". They take great comfort from their faith and it has helped them through terrible times. How dare you say that they are…

I'm really genuine curious, how did your trainer explain how it is possible to have less than no fat. a negative number is still a number, so what is it made up of if it's LESS than zero?! I am so confused, am I really that stupid that I can't get my head round such a concept. And surely everyone has a little bit of fat,…

If you live with your parents and meals are out of your control then you need to sit down with your parents and speak to them about it. If they are willing to support you and cook for you then all is well. If they are willing to support you with the shopping bill but not make separate meals for you then you will need to…
