  • Syntrax Chocolate Truffle and Vanilla Bean have been my favorites. I've tried a variety and these have been a staple for me the past year since surgery.
  • Me too I'm a carb addict as well. It has dwindled substantially post op but I know this will be a lifelong struggle for me to manage my carbs. Surgery did not magically cure the desire so I have to be very conscious of everything I eat and making sure those carbs don't sneak up on me. When I've gone through a few stalls…
  • My food scale and my Ninja are my 2 best kitchen friends! Check out the Ninja Master Prep, it's 3 cannisters/mixer things and 1 motor. I love it, I use it for food processing and shakes. The rest of my family loves it too for smoothies and icees.
  • Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. Today is my 6 month post op anniversary, I've lost 80 lbs so far. By far the best decision I ever made. That's not to say it was easy every step of the way, if I had it to do over again I'd do it in a heartbeart.
  • Check out this link, I don't know that they're allowed to deny you covered services based on a pre-existing conditions. They may be able to make you wait but deny all together doesn't sound right.. I know there are some exemptions but a national carrier like Cigna, I doubt they meet the qualifications for the exemptions.…
  • I log my food everyday but I never click "complete this entry" I don't want to get virtually yelled at for not eating enough lol
  • Call your insurance and find out what their benefit is. Some insurances require a 3 or 6 month medically supervised diet. Many require you have a certain BMI (typically 35 BMI w/2 comorbidities or 40BMI w/out comorbidities). Also the weight loss benefit is an extra option that employers can pay for and many opt out of the…
  • I'm close to 6 months out, other than the first 8 weeks of healing I don't really have limitations on what I can eat. I can pretty much eat anything I ate pre-surgery only in much smaller quantities. I think the big difference is not that I can't physically eat things, it's more like I choose to avoid certain things…
  • As mentioned above first and foremost you really have to be prepared to address your relationship with food. Having surgery won't solve emotional eating. I highly recommend therapy as part of your weight loss process. I had surgery a little over 5 months ago, have lost 73lbs and don't have any regrets about surgery. Best…
  • What does your carb intake look like? I noticed my weight loss stalling/slowing down and as I was going through my food intake I noticed it coincided with my carb intake creeping up. Upping my water and lowering my carbs got that scale moving again.
  • I've heard people talking about the 5 day pouch test, it really takes you back to the basics. http://www.5daypouchtest.com/plan/theplan.html
  • Took me a couple of months, most of my clothes were stretchy and I was taking full advantage of the stretchiness. Goodwill is awesome, I've found lots of nice stuff relatively inexpensive.
  • That is so amazing, congratulations!! You're really such an inspiration.

  • You look great, congratulations on your success. Your skin is not that bad after losing 100lbs, I'd be very happy with that.
  • Took me about 4 months to start enjoying beef again and it has to be very tender.
  • I'm 4+ months out and my period is still irregular. I skipped my first one, some are heavy, some are light, sometimes they come 3 weeks apart. My dr said it's pretty normal to have irregular periods post op.
  • My nutritionist recommended separating your plate into 4 quarters and eating each section in 5 minutes. If you're done before the 5 minutes put your plate down and wait to start on the next section until the 5 minutes are up. This helped me tremendously pre-op, the slower I ate the fuller I got on less quantities of food.…
  • I overpacked, had 2 loose fitting outfits, a kindle, chargers, chapstick, slippers. Only thing I used was the chapstick. I do recommend you have a pillow or something for the ride home to put on your abdomen to help with the pain of the bumps on the road. I had a stuffed animal that my daughter got me while I was in the…
  • oh my!! I think I need to try a bath and see if I can actually submerge myself underwater. What a great NSV

  • I'd recommend you weigh your food, and stick to weighing what you eat instead of relying on your body to tell you. It's a good habit to start now anyway at some point you're not going to have the same restriction you have today and you will gradually be able to eat more and more which could end up being a problem during…

  • I'm 4 months out, if your pre-op diet requires protein drinks I'd recommend you find one you like now that will hold you over until surgery don't overstock. Save samples of other stuff because your taste buds are likely to change. I loved Muscle Milk Strawberries & Cream pre-op, not so much after surgery. Post op I've been…
  • I'm 15 weeks post op, I've lost 42lbs since surgery and 17 pre-op (59lbs total). I think it really all depends on what your starting point was, age, etc...
  • I had my surgery March 17th I've lost close to 60lbs. I've been very fortunate that I haven't had a lot of people say anything directly to me about taking the easy way out but I'm well prepared to answer to that should someone say something. Having major surgery and cutting out 80% of your stomach is not the easy way out.…
  • I'm a little over 3 months out and I feel completely normal. I know I can never eat the amounts of food I ate before but I can have just about anything it's definitely a new normal that I am ok with. I know I can have pizza and just about anything I ate before surgery the difference is now I'm choosing to stay away from…
  • That's a great NSV, congrats!!

  • Based on your physical issues you sound like a perfect candidate for WLS surgery, however you have to be mentally prepared and committed to the process. I am also a yo-yo dieter, I could lose the weight but then I'd gain it back and then some. I'll be 40 this year and I finally decided I was ready to commit to a lifestyle…
  • As anxious as I was to hurry up and get the surgery done, now I appreciate those 3 months I had to wait, ultimately time flew by. The 1st month I didn't really diet it was my food funeral period. Month 2 & 3 I started watching my calories and worked on developing healthy eating habits, logging everything and preparing…
  • I'm glad I don't participate in other WL forums out here other than this. I stick to bariatric stuff, I feel I have more in common with people who are going through the same journey. A lot of their misplaced anger comes from a place of ignorance, I think many people (myself included before I actually did research on WLS)…

  • I had my surgery on March 17th, the BEST decision I've ever made. Good luck with your surgery tomorrow, don't be surprised if you have immediate buyers remorse after surgery, I think most do. Just remember the first few days are the worst of it (and it wasn't even that bad looking back) it will only get better each day.…
  • Initially my husband was not supportive either, he was afraid of complications. It's a major surgery and can be scary for the ones we love because they aren't as informed, they don't know first hand the struggles we have with obesity. I pretty much started the process on my own, without support from anyone. I got educated,…
