  • I agree with a short warm up if you have time. Then just give it all you got and have fun :)
  • I haven't found a gel that I like...but I haven't really tried too many either, it's a texture thing for me. I really liked the Clif Shot bloks but have recently found that they're not agreeing with me either. I'm now looking into different more natural things to eat while running, I've tried a pancake made with buckwheat,…
  • I love my garmin too :) I was running with a friend this morning who is running at slower pace than I do, so the run was slow but the company good. We did a little over 10k.... which is roughly 6.5 miles. My brain works in km for distances but pounds and ounces for weights.... Hope everyone had a good weekend :)
  • I had some IT band problems for awhile and now go see a massage therapist once a month to keep me in line. I always think that it's feeling not too bad until she starts to work on me....ouch!....but it helps so much. She tells me "hate me today but love me tomorrow " :)
  • You look fantastic! I'm like you with 5 kids, but I had my first at 26 and last at 36yrs... She's almost 2 now and I weigh less than I did before having any kids. I'm 5'7" and at 140 right now but want to get into the 130's. I'm also a runner (long distances) and cross train with weights and triathlon training. I do have a…
  • I didn't think about having the 1000 mile goal until it was probably too late for me to get there. I'm at 745 right now and will be happy to get to 800 :)
  • I was a long distance runner before having my last baby, I ran through the whole pregancy, I ran on a Sunday and she was born the following Tuesday...although by the end I wasn't moving to far or too quickly :) But it helped keep me feeling good and my doctor had no issues with it. I started running again when she was 12…
  • I ran Scotia 1/2 this year too, and I've done the Chilly 1/2 twice :)
  • I'm going to keep running over the winter as normal, I'm taking a triathlon specific swimming class once a week which means I get in the pool once a week :) I need the class to keep me accountable and make me swim at least once a week. I really like swimming, but we have 5 kids and a busy life... I'm also looking to get a…
  • Hi Everyone I'm Jen, I live in Ontario, Canada and I'm really a runner, but I did my fist triathlon in the summer of 2010 and had a blast! I did a couple of try a tri's this past summer and one sprint distance. I think it's safe to say I'm now hooked and figure the cross training will only benefit my running. Right now I'm…
  • Hi I'm Jen, I live east of Toronto in Ontario, Canada - nice to see another Canadian on here :) I've been running for around 8 years but it's just over the past 3 that I got into the really long distances. So far I've run 7 1/2s, 2 fulls and a 30k. It really is a bit of an addicting thing :) I ran my last race for the year…
  • ^^ exactly that.
  • I had a pair of Brooks that were my favourite for awhile (bought 3 pairs of the same shoes in fact), but then they changed the style and I didn't like the new version of them as much. Then I moved on to Mizuno and now Newton lady isaacs, which are the first pair of shoes that I can wear for the long runs and not have my…
  • I've lost a few toenails along the way, they've all grown back without any problems, but I certainly don't have cute feet anymore :( For the blisters you could try wearing toe socks (I wear injinji ones and love them!) I had blister issues between my toes and I find that they help because each toe is separated so they…
  • I have a 10k on November 7, my last race of the year....well I think so anyway...
  • The dark, rooms that are so dark you can't see anything at all....yes I'm a mom and I have a nightlight :) Also bugs that fly, particulary June bugs....eeewwww....
  • I'll give it a shot, I like a challenge :)
  • I think it looks OK, but like others have mentioned definately add more water and maybe increase your calcium a bit as they days I looked at you were well under your recommended intake...don't know if there are any dietary restrictions but fat free yogurt or cottage cheese I think go well with grapes as a snack :) but…
  • Done, 300 each leg - thanks for the challenge :)
  • I'm in - thanks for the challenge :)
  • I just started to really enjoy cycling over the summer. I started doing triathlons last year and I used to see it as that thing I had to do between the swimming and running... Then this summer I decided I wanted to get better at it, so I had to do it more and somewhere along the way it got more fun :) I got a "new to me"…
  • Are you thinking 42.2 km? that is 26.2 miles in kilometers....
  • I've been running for a little over 8 years and I average anywhere from 20-30+ miles per week, depending on what I'm training for. The mileage goes up when it's for a marathon but went down a bit during the summer because I was doing triathlons and much more cross training.
  • Well, I'm running a 5k race tomorrow but before it I'm planning on running a very easy 8k....kind of a long warm-up :) I've been running for years and I generally run much farther on my Sunday run. I don't run 5ks too often anymore so I think it will be O.K...I'll let you know tomorrow... I'm hoping if all goes well to run…
  • I'm quite new here too. I've been a runner for about 8 years, just ran a 1/2 marathon on Sunday which was my 7th one, done 2 full marathons, a 30k and a bunch of 5 and 10ks. For the first few years I mainly just ran between 5-12kms, I also had a few babies in there, then I joined a running group..... I think it's a bit of…
  • I totally agree! You never know what's going to happen, take it all as it comes. Some days running is easy, some days it's hard and unfortunately you never know what you're going to end up with on race day. I've been running for 8 years. I just ran a 1/2 marathon this past Sunday and as well trained and prepared as I was,…
  • To tackle the hill, try to shorten your stride a bit and pump your arms more When you pump your arms you'll find that your feet follow along, not sure why but they do :) I'm not sure how to replicate the hill on a treadmill but maybe just try running a bit of your normal run on an incline. Best of luck with your 5k and…
  • Wishing you the best of luck and have fun! It's a fantastic accomplishment and you'll feel great when you're finished! I've been running for quite a few years and one of the best pieces of advice I've gotten along the way is to dress as though it's 10 degrees (celcius that is, I'm Canadian) warmer than it actually is. You…
