All the calculators I have used say that my maintenance calorie level is 3000 (which factors in my high activity level). If I eat more, as you are suggesting, then I would not have a calorie deficit. Does this not defeat the purpose of the diet?

I should have mentioned this earlier, but there is a strong genetic component - obesity is prevalent in my family and I am worried that more calories will just turn to fat.

It was the number that myfitnesspal gave me based on my age, current weight, healthy ideal weight, and height.

I would wait an hour, and then eat something small. Don't push yourself. Your body has burned fat from walking and is currently running off that energy, which is why you're not hungry.
