  • I know that the college I attended has nutritional information on display, and if you ask the staff, maybe they have a pamphlet. We had a "healthy eating" day, as well, but it was swayed towards vegetarian diets, and they had been praising vegetarian diets for a couple weeks beforehand, talking about carbon footprints and…
  • Two of my favorite foods for "cheating" are the McDonalds Quarter Pounder and the Tim Horton's 6" BLT Sandwich. Luckily, both of them are under 500 calories, and taste soooo good. Plus, I believe the ones I get are a little healthier, since I get a Quarter Pounder with cheese and ketchup only, and I hold the Mayo on the…
  • Well, I guess I go out most days, but only with friends in the evening for a snack and somewhere to hang out. Tim Horton's is a nice place, and their stuff is moderately healthy (for fast food). It's usually just a hot chocolate or green tea and a donut. For the 3 main meals, though, I rarely go out to eat.
  • I use butter when I have it, but I don't use the 2 tbsp of it like the serving size dictates. I usually use less than 1 tbsp. This goes for most spreads, like peanut butter and cream cheese. This halves the calories and you still get the same flavor. 1 tbsp of a spread is enough to lightly cover a whole bagel, and more…
  • For kendo, I took the statistics on MFP for Karate and used those. We don't necessarily move as much in kendo (though drills and sparring are heavy cardio), but when you do everything with 20 - 30 pounds of armor on, it does work your body a lot more!
  • When I calculated my BMR, it was about 1800. With daily activity, I burn about 2,250 calories a day. So I set my intake at 1900 just to stay healthy. I eat healthy snacks throughout the day (A cup of Cheerios dry is a favorite) and slowly chip away at that number. These past few days, I've felt the best I've ever felt, but…
  • I drink water all day and eat a snack at around 10AM and a snack around 2:30 - 3PM. Keeps me feeling pretty full.
  • http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-calculator.asp Have you tried this site for the nutritional value? Might not be exact, but could give a ballpark figure. Sounds delicious though. I want to try it!
  • That seems like a great option. Next time me and my friends hang out at a fast food place, I'll suggest Wendy's!
  • Yay! I had to eat quite a bit today to keep my energy up for kendo (which was a killer) So me and a couple friends went out to McDonald's and I got to eat a terribly delicious meal and stayed under my calorie count! Not so happy about the sodium levels in that stuff....but hey. As long as I don't make a habit of it! It…
  • After reading a bit on this site, I upped my daily calories to 1900. I'll probably eat about 2250 on workout days, like today, where i'm going to be out 700 - 900 calories after my Kendo practice. 1900 for me is a bit more than 100 over my BMR. I want to lose, but I don't want to starve myself. I'm just starting out, but…
  • I have a Nalgene "Everyday" bottle that holds 4 cups. I just keep it near me when I'm at my desk, and drink throughout the day. Today's gonna be one of the days I go over, however, as I have Kendo practice tonight!
  • I'm kind of confused on the BMR as well. I'm 22 years old and 192 pounds, and My BMR is 1,798. However, even with setting the goals to losing 1 pound a week, I still come up short on what MFP recommends, at 1,750. Is that supposed to happen? Or did I do something wrong? I'm definitely a sedentary person, as I'm an artist…
  • Welcome! I also joined recently because I was told about this site by a friend who's also using it, and I have to say it's addictive!! It's also made me realize what I'm eating and how I should watch my nutrition.
  • Everyone needs a break, and it's ok to pig out! As long as you're not like me over Christmas (ooh! cookies!) Sometimes it's even good to eat bad food, since if you get a craving or need a stress relief, your body really wants that which you're craving. I don't think it will damage your diet too much as long as it's not a…
  • It depends on how active you are. If you spend a lot of time running around or on your feet, then you need those carbs, and probably need a lot more than MFP lists. If you don't spend as much time exercising or your job doesn't require you to be on your feet a lot, you won't need as many carbs. Your body still needs them…
  • I have a Nalgene "Everyday" bottle, and its really nice because it has ounces and milliliters on the side, and one whole bottle is 32 ounces. Really helpful, and great to carry around for workouts.
  • If you like going to the gym, do that a couple times a week. For the rest of the week, exercise during something else. If you watch TV, try jogging in place or doing some jumping jacks, instead of just sitting around. If it's not far from you, walk to work or class. My bank is about a mile away, so sometimes I'll walk…
  • I wouldn't worry too much about OJ. It's great for your body, and one glass, even if it puts you slightly over a calorie count, isn't going to ruin your diet. So enjoy that OJ! :)
  • It is truly a fun and addictive game. When my roommate in college had it, I'd play for 2 hours or more, with breaks for rest, of course. I play on the hardest songs, due to a lot of practice (as in...I had too much time on my hands), and after 3 or 4, I'm pretty much done....well, until I take a rest and someone else plays…
