I recently learned that the number on the machines at the gym typically is off 10-15%. The reason this number is off because the machines often include your baseline metabolism into the calculator. For example, I typically require 90 calories an hour to sustain my body without even moving. When I add an hour on the…

So here's the challenge, try to complete it if you can . . . I know real life takes over sometimes. I challenge everyone to complete cardio for at least 45 minutes three times before next Sunday's weigh-in and on one day this week eliminate one "treat" you may give yourself. I hope everyone has a good week and GOOD LUCK!!!…

Can of tuna or salmon on mixed greens with 4 tablespoons of fat free dressing. Grilled chicken and 2/3rds of a cup of quinoa or wild rice. Greek yogurt mixed with 1/2 cup of nuts. Greek yogurt mixed with 1 cup of oatmeal. Those are just some ideas off the top of my head.

I just go to bodybuilding.com if I need advice on weight lifting and you should invest in The Men's Health Big Book of Exercises. It explains how you can do the workouts from beginner level to pro.

The only reason I track my strength training exercises is to show friends my workout routine. Other than that I like to use strength training as a calorie buffer as well. I agree that I think MFP underestimates how many calories a high intensity workout may burn, but I think that is a good thing.

You are very active IMO; however, if you are trying to lose weight I would set your account at active. If you are trying to maintain then i would say very active.

I typically drink a sports drink and protein shake, sit for a bit and collect myself, and shower. Good times!!!

I typically use chocolate milk or a scoop of whey protein with water and a gatorade to replace my lost sugar during the workout. Since you aren't trying to gain muscle mass like me, I would skip out on the gatorade. The chocolate milk is definitely your best bet.

Medically, the recommendation is not to lose more than 1-2lbs a week. So shooting for 5lbs a month is a good goal. You may go over the 1-2lbs a month depending where you are at your starting point. A person weighing 300lbs who really goes after it the first week could lose anywhere from 5-10% of their weight and then they…

OMG, you are right when is it going to end? It wouldn't be so bad if you were to share that with 4-5 people, but we all know that there will be people eating that thing all alone.

Okay, I am going to play doctor for a second. There are two hormones involved in breast feeding typically prolactin and oxytocin. Prolactin is responsible for increasing your breast size and giving you the ability to lactate. Oxytocin is responsible for milk let down. I do not know if your baby has physically stimualated…

Hello, I think this group sounds like a great idea. I would like to join. I am a former football player who is in his third year of medical school who is trying to continue losing weight and get control of his old eating habits. I want to be the best doctor I can be and having poor health will not benefit my patients. I…

Yeah, it had me set around 2100-2300 calories for a while. With how much I workout and my schedule I probably would have passed out from that amount. My BMR is 2300-2500 calories depending on which calculator I use, eating below that would cause muscle loss which I don't want. I would recommend finding your basal metabolic…

LOL I used to eat stuff like that on a regular basis during football. I would destroy a large pizza like no one's business. I still crush a burrito from Q'doba or Chipotle. The hardest thing I have struggled with is learning that I am not a football player anymore and eating an entire large pepperoni and sausage pizza is…

Hey, I feel your pain because I am in my third year of medical school and I have started rotations which occupy your life basically. Some days I don't even feel like making it to the gym. When I have time, I try to grill chicken and fish for the week and just pair that with a vegetable. The new thing I have started doing…
