Hands-down...Tour de France guy that goes whizzing by as fast as he can without announcing he's there. Honorable mention: The person "walking" their dog, but not keeping the dog on a leash.

You're not the only one. I was thinking the same thing.

I disagree with that attitude. I support your right to own a gun. As a matter of fact, as a veteran, I defended your right to own a gun. That said, I am anti-gun.
-
I thought you would only get that message if you were under 1200 net calories for the day. Are you doing that? My mistake, it's not net calories...if you actually eat less than 1200, it'll complain.

Very nice. Good job!

You did see the picture right? Did you see the SI Swimsuit Edition?
-
Sorry...shouldn't have quoted your post, too. I agree with you.

5'10", 125lbs is what I found online.....not overweight

Checkout the Smartcoach feature on www.runnersworld.com. I used it for my first 1/2 back in May. It's pretty flexible as far as how intense you want to train. When I was running 10ks a few years ago, I just winged it. I felt so much better after my 1/2 than any of the 10ks I ran. I attribute this to following a plan.
-
Good job. Good luck with your 1/2. Sounds like you have a good base, but you can try one of the training plans on runnersworld.com. The plans build in some speed work and tempo runs as well. It doesn't cost anything...you'll get spammed from them, though.

My 2nd half is in September. The training is tough this time around. The corn is sweating like crazy here in the heartland, so I have to run real early in the morning.
-
Congratulations! It is a great accomplishment.
-
Congrats on finishing your first 1/2. I ran my first one back in May and I was on cloud 9 for a week. I still have my bib and race stats hanging in my cubical at work.
-
I stopped using music on my longer runs because I wanted to focus on my pace and breathing. It's funny how a faster song would throw off my pace. As for using music on race day, I never have...even when I was running 10ks. The crowd during my 1/2 was a great distraction. I told my friend after the race that it was easier…

Great job!

Congratulations! I knew you would kill 2 hours.

I haven't read the entire thread, but have you considered adoption?
-
Yep, it was my first 1/2. I trained for 20 weeks. Check out the smartcoach on www.runnersworld.com. That's what I used. It starts out with moderate mileage and increases over time. As far as strategy goes, see if they have pacers at your race and hang with the 1:55 guy.
-
Oh, it went great! My goal was actually 1:53:36 and I came in at 1:50:37. It was easier than any of my training runs. I started out running with the 1:55 pacer, but he was going too slow for me so I ditched him after about 2.5 miles...right about the time he talked about walking through the first water station...What?…
-
Can't comment on child birth, but definitely agree with the love/hate part.
-
I finished in 1:50:37...2:59 ahead of my goal. I know what you mean about your son, too. Me and my 8 year old ran the Mayor's 1 Mile race on Saturday. We didn't set any records, but I was proud of him for doing it.
-
Hell yeah, you can finish that 1/2 in under two hours. Find out if they have pacers for the your 1/2. The one I just ran on Sunday used them and it helped. It was really nice leaving the 1:55 pacer behind after 3 miles. :)
-
Don't go out too fast. I would recommend starting slower and make up the time over the remainder of the race. I took this from a smartpacing website. http://www.smartpacing.com/index.php?page=smartpacing During the warm-up, the body goes from inefficient fuel burning (converting oxygen, sugar/fat, electrolytes to energy)…
-
I just finished my first 1/2 on Sunday. Any nervousness or apprehension you have right now is probably normal. But, it's nothing compared to the sense of acclomplishment you will feel after you do it. My advice is to get into the program and move forward. The miles will get easier and you'll gain confidence about the task…

I didn't use Higdon's training plan, but the one I used had me thinking the same thing. Most of my long runs were around a 10 min/mile pace, but my race pace was 8:40. However, every week I would have either a tempo run or speed work that was at or faster than my race pace. I couldn't tell you the magic behind it, but I…

Shorts for me. I've run in my long running tight when it was cold, but I definitely prefer shorts.
