What are you training for?
I just signed-up for my first half in 2 years (4th overall.) It's a small one in the town I live in, Papillion, NE. Incidentally, my last was the same venue. It's a tough course and it kicked my butt the last time. Training in Nebraska in the Winter isn't always so easy. Turns out, I wasn't trained up enough to meet my…

1/2 Marathon done!
I ran my my 3rd 1/2 Marathon this morning. I got my butt kicked, but still finished at 1:53:27. Unfortunately, my goal was 1:50:00. The humidity and the hills did me in.

Smart Pacing
Has anyone used the Smart Pacing method for races? I've used it in the 1/2 marathons I've run and I love it. I was poking around on their site today and came across a pretty nifty tool called Chase Charts. Here's the pitch: Our unique, free chase charts help your friends track where you will be on the course, mile by mile,…

Altra shoes and "Learn to Run"
I've been very interested in the Altra Zero Drop shoes I've been seeing ads for lately, and decided to check out their website. The shoes look decent and I found a couple of retailers locally. My question is, has anyone else seen their Learn To Run link and the concepts involved?

New PR
I set a new PR in the Omaha Half Marathon yesterday. My goal time was 1:47:16, I came in at 1:45:00. Great day for a race. Started out with a low of 36 degrees. Probably warmed up to about 50 by the time I finished.

Advice
I'm running my 2nd 1/2 marathon this Sunday and the weather looks great with the exception that it's going to be around 35 F at the beginning of the race. Not too bad for running, I'm just stressing over how to dress. I think I can get away with shorts and a long sleeve performance shirt. I'll probably end up bringing a…

My second 1/2 this weekend
I will be running my second 1/2 Marathon this weekend. It's the Omaha 1/2 Marathon. The weather looks great right now, I've done my training, but for some reason my hamstrings are a little sore. I noticed it yesterday. Just sore, not injured. I ran 10 miles last Friday, then didn't run again until yesterday. Any thoughts…

Under Armour Spine
I was just at a sporting goods store and decided to try on a pair of Under Armour Spine running shoes. They felt pretty good. Has anyone out there tried these shoes?

GPS for runners
I'm looking to upgrade my current GPS. I have a Garmin Forerunner 101. It still works fine, but I want to get something slightly smaller than a tablet to wear on my wrist. What are the good ones out there? Garmin has so many models. I kind of like the look of the Nike+ Sportwatch. Thoughts?

Omaha Marathon/Half Marathon
I'm training for the Omaha Half Marathon on September 23rd. Anyone else out there running this one?

Carb loading
I'm running my first 1/2 on May 6th and I've been reading up on carb loading. Has anyone done this before a race? What did you eat? One thing I read said to start 2-3 days before the race to fill your muscles with glycogen. Any input is welcome.

First 1/2 this weekend
I'm running my first 1/2 Marathon this weekend (Sunday) in Lincoln, Nebraska. I'm trained up and ready to break 1:55. Unfortunately, it looks like the weather my suck. Righ now the forecast is 70 degrees, humid, and a 50% chance of rain/thunderstorms.

NSV first 1/2 Marathon in the books!
I ran my first 1/2 marathon yesterday. I ended up training for 20 weeks using the "Smartcoach" on www.runnersworld.com. My goal time was 1:53:36 (8:40 pace.) I finished in 1:50:37 (8:27 pace.) My legs and feet are sore, and I'm still a little sleepy...but I'm quite proud of myself and wanted to share.

1/2 Marathon Training hit a snag
Training for the 1/2 marathon hit a little snag yesterday. Went to the doctor for a checkup and they found a heart murmur...which lead to and EKG, a stress test, and an Echo Cardiogram. So I have Mitral Valve Regurgitation and I have to see a cardiologist. The doctor told me I should stop running until we figure out what's…

Question about Tabata training
There was thread about Tabata a few days ago, so I looked into and it sounded interesting. I tried it today after doing about 20 minutes on the treadmill. I guess my question is, is there more to it than the 4 minutes? I mean, you couldn't just do the 4 minutes and call it good for the day, right? I'm not looking for a…

Any runners in Omaha?
Are there any other runners in the Omaha area? I'm running a 10k this weekend. Just curious if there will be any other MFP representation there.

1st 10k
I ran my first 10k this morning. Actually, it was my first race of any sort. Anyway, I finished in 52:16. I pulled a bone head move at the beginning, though. We're standing around, waiting to go....the 1/2 marathoners had already left, when the Mayor of our city gets on the mic and says we have about 7 minutes left until…

Marinating Question
How do you count the nutritional info of any marinades you use? For instance, we're having flat iron steaks marinated in Claude's Fajita Marinade for dinner tonight. I won't actually be consuming as much marinade as I used for the steaks. How would you suggest I track this?

My first 10k
I'm running my first 10k this weekend, wish me luck. I'm pretty sure I've conditioned myself well enough to finish in under an hour, but I do have a question. A couple of hours after my run last Saturday, my right hamstring felt really tender. I've been taking Advil with ibuprofen for a couple of days, and haven't tried…

Whey Protein Powder
Any recommendations? I have been using the Body Fortress brand from Walmart, but my buddy told me to watch out for the cheaper brands. I guess since they're not regulated by the FDA, they can't put whatever they want on the nutrition label...true or not. I just got back from Complete Nutrition. Of course, the guy there…

Day 90
So today is day 90 of Power 90 for me. I lost a total of 17 pounds over the course of the 90 days. I'm quite pleased with that, but I wonder what might have been....At first my attitude was, "I'm working out now, I don't have to change my eating habits all that much." Initially, that was ok. I think I lost 5-6 pounds…
