Smart Pacing

Has anyone used the Smart Pacing method for races? I've used it in the 1/2 marathons I've run and I love it. I was poking around on their site today and came across a pretty nifty tool called Chase Charts. Here's the pitch:

Our unique, free chase charts help your friends track where you will be on the course, mile by mile, based on the start time of the race - no math required.

Of course this can be done manually, I just thought it was cool and wanted to share. The link is below.

What is the Smart Pacing method? I'd be curious to know:)

I was thinking of using this tool to create a wristband for my race to keep me on track. (or enter it on my run app.) Anyone tried it?

This page kind of explains the strategy behind it.

I make my own wristbands for pacing. I use the smart pacing method. I bought a package of bright green wristbands and Nobbies and I write in my pace and splits for each mile.
The runnersworld app looks like it using basically a constant pace method.

Thanks! It looks interesting and makes complete sense:) It does take a couple of KM's before I settle into a good run. My goal is to aim for a negative split but it's much harder than I thought.... would be great to be able to break it down into segments:)

I like it. I always feel strong at the end of my runs/races. They have an app like the one you linked in on their site, too.

BTW, my previous post was supposed to say that I bought a package of bright green wristbands AT Nobbies, not AND Nobbies.

The miles thing really confuses me. We go by KM's here, i tried converting but it doesn't help. Is there a KM one?

I found this site, but I think it's just using a constant pace for the race.

Sure thing! I guess it would have been helpful if I had said it was KMs.

Thanks for this thread... I am definitely a classic "start out too fast" runner. I have a half in 3 weeks and I just ordered my pace band to hopefully help me finish with my goal time somewhere in sight!!

I haven't seen that one but I've seen the MARCO pace calculator
It goes in km or miles

Great! Also, some races have pacers using this method. I know they had them at the Lincoln Marathon.
