Drinking an ice-cold adult beverage. However, since I'm running my first 1/2 Marathon on Sunday I've decide to abstain from alcohol until after the race.

My goal time is 1:53:36. Kind of specific, but that's what the "Smartcoach" on runnersworld came up with for me.

Checkout the Smartcoach App. Or go to www.runnersworld.com and use the Smartcoach feature under training. That what I used to train for my 1/2 coming up this Sunday. Oh yeah...the app and the feature on runnersworld are great.

I missed your original update. Sorry to hear that it's not going so well. But, at least now you have a plan to get back to healthy. Sucks that you will probably have to miss the 1/2 on the 6th. Better to skip it and get yourself right, though.

Cool. Thanks for the info.

Well, good luck!

I don't think I have the guts to wear one occasionally on weekends, but I did rent one for a golf tournament last year. Super comfortable. No swamp-*kitten* on a hot day, so that was nice. I say do it!

I'm glad you took it as a compliment. I looked at your profile. Taking 3 minutes off your 10k PB...That will be an awesome accomplishment.
-
Ok. So you know what you're doing. Just listen to your body like everyone says. Have a good run!

It is possible to increase your weekly mileage too quickly, which can result in injuries. IT Band Syndrome, for example. If you get that, and I have, you'll probably have to stop running for an extended period of time for it to heal.

Congratulations! Great job. I love the picture of you and the little girl in your old pants. Made me laugh out loud.

Don't get bogged down in all the numbers. Let MFP figure that out for you. I exercise 5-6 days/week and still have mine set at sedentary because I'm a software engineer and sit on my butt most of the time I'm at work.

My 8 year old gets picked on at school because he walks on his tip-toes a lot. This one boy in particular picked on him when he was in kindergarten and 1st grade. BTW, the kid doing the picking is 2 grades ahead of my son. So one day, my son had enough. He grabbed the bully by his coat, slung him around and threw him to…

It varies from day to day. Today, it was the d-bag that continued to weave in and out of traffic without using his signal.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

My first HM is May 6th. The 35th Annual Lincoln National Guard Marathon and Half-Marathon. I guess I won't be drinking any Negra Modelos for Cinco de Mayo..

Yep, the brace helps...but rest is the key. I know it sucks. You're probably trained up pretty close to ready for the 1/2. BTW, I have my first 1/2 that same day.

I'm training for my first 1/2 right now. I used the "Smartcoach" feature on www.runnersworld.com. Somebody mentioned the tempo and speed work already, those are built into the plan. It's free, too.

I forgot about Determined...Great workout song.

I had the same injury in 2009. I eventually had to stop running for an extended period of time for it to get better. I was in trainng for a 10k, trying to break 46 minutes. I had to resign myself to the fact that I wasn't going to break 46. I want to say I stopped running for about a month before the race. I was able to do…

The 1/2 I'm running next month has "Smart Pacers" Pretty interesting. http://smartpacing.com/index.php?page=smartpacing

My first 1/2 is on May 6th. The training plan I'm following from runnersworld.com has me finishing in 1:53:36. That's the goal, anyway. I'm usually able to finish my runs at a faster pace than the plan calls for. I hope that's a good thing.

I agree with this...Similarly, I bought a 13.1 sticker even though I haven't completed a half marathon yet. I won't put it on my car until after the 1/2. Stick to your guns...you have to earn the shirt.

You might need to eat a little more on the long run days. You're burning a lot of calories on those days. Also, don't be afraid to eat some carbs. Your body will need them.
