  • I know how you feel--hang in there! If you need, take a day (but only *one* day) off so you can rest and re-focus, then get back on the horse! Big changes (even ones for the better) can make you feel really low because they're stressful, but like you said, it'll be okay, just stick with it! And, of course, we're all here…
  • I totally understand! I never get that (patronizing) "Oh, but you're so *skinny*, why are you on a diet website?!" when I'm here.
  • Ahahaha! I totally came to that conclusion about myself in the same way. Ugh, muffin top.
  • It happens! Don't beat yourself up... sometimes the body just needs more time than you'd like to give it to figure out the calorie balance you provide, but once it does it becomes really efficient at culling extra fat (assuming you haven't put yourself in the dreaded starvation mode). Hang in there--it'll get better!
  • It depends on what you eat--if you're cutting out carbs, it's easy to be under 1200 and still feel full. If you're like me, and you'd probably go postal without starch in your day, it's almost impossible to stay at or below 1200 and feel full.
  • I know--some trainers have major issues with superiority. They aren't all like that, though, so don't let one ruin it all for you! Don't worry if the gym )and personal trainers) isn't for you, you can do just as much (or possibly more) on your own, you just need to stick to your plan--it's worked for me!
  • Mmm! Sounds good! I also like marinating whole chicken in Italian dressing and grilling them for salad toppers.
  • Woops... double-post. :blushing:
  • Take it slow--there's no point in eating more if you're just puking it up, right? cheerbabe has the right idea... start with calorie dense foods (peanut butter and an apple works well for me when I need to up my calories) in small amounts and work your way up to 1200. If it continues for a while (say, until Feb), you…
  • I've heard that as long as it's not prolonged it's not a big deal (assuming you don't have any heart problems or you aren't feeling like your chest is going to explode). I'd say it's probably not a great thing to ever have your heart rate above the calculated maximum (220 minus your age), although I know that one's actual…
  • Funny you should mention PSPs... I read an article the other day about how children under 6 shouldn't use the new 3D Nintendo DS games because it could damage their eyes... *who* gives a 6-year old a game console?! Aren't they supposed to be playing with actual toys at that age? Yikes. (Looks like there's more Albertans…
  • The minimum calorie goal is set to 1200 because (assuming you're eating nutritious foods rather than junk) you can't generally get enough nutrients from your food if you eat less than 1200 calories--so if you're not hungry, have something that's both calorie and nutrient dense (I like cheese or peanut butter or something…
  • I'm definitely a pirate, although I wish I was built like a ninja ( lol). And having ninja skills would be pretty cool...
  • Don't worry! One mistake shouldn't get you down... we all make mistakes, the important part is to move forward and not dwell on it--tomorrow's a new day in your weight loss journey, so don't let tonight get in your way!
  • From what I've seen, p90x uses a lot of cheap stuff--resistance bands and free weights which can be really cheap if you're willing to shop around. I've also heard it's good for just about anyone--you go at your pace and to your personal maximum effort doing each exercise, so you should be able to do most of the exercises…

  • Well... if it means that more people will be active rather than giving up on PA before they even try it, I'm all for it. I personally think we need to make different policy changes if we want any chance of dealing with our weight problem--most of us at MFP know that diet is equally (if not more) important, yet our…
  • Agreed--the hardest part for me is actually getting there... usually halfway through my warmup I'm at least a little more at peace with the idea of working out, and there's nothing like the feeling after a good butt-kicking workout!
  • I KNOW! And I'm always too soft to be a jerk with tip, so I end up getting crappy service *and* giving a good tip. As far as the trip, I guess you could do some homework (make extra sure it's a credible tour company) and go for it--I mean, it's Europe, so there are fallback options (even if they're expensive, it's…
  • I agree with the previous posters--you need to make sure you're matching intake with output so you have the energy to work out like an Olympian! Make sure you're not overtraining, too--it's easy to go too hard at the start of a program, so don't go overboard. Keep the faith--slow and steady wins the race (which sucks to…
  • From what I hear, it's based on 17-day cycles (presumably something like 17 days of "clean" eating, then 17 days of high protein, then 17 days of something else, etc. etc.), rather than just 17 days and you're done...
  • I have a copy of p90X that's collecting dust at my place, but I'm thinking to start using it to switch things up. I've heard nothing but good things about it...
  • I tried something like it before Christmas (we don't have that particular company where I am)--DO IT!!! :drinker:
  • I don't think you'd do any major damage, although be warned that you'll feel like crap if you spike your sodium intake...
  • Agreed! I'm sure there is a bit of an increased "daily burn", but it's like when you're pregnant--you don't really need to eat more calories (or, the amount more isn't very much), you need to eat more nutrients. Also, I didn't know chocolate had magnesium. Sweet deal--you learn something new every day! (I must have a…
  • Haha, well, I was never really one for physics. Although I do like the point about the fact that one can't rule out flying cloven-hoofed ungulates...
  • I'm not a huge fan of raw veggies (although red peppers are fantastic!), but I find that carrot/celery sticks can be satisfying if you bring some kind of dip--I use Philly garden vegetable, the low fat kind. I totally recommend LC & crackers--the starch keeps me full for longer than raw veggies. Fruits like oranges (yay…
  • Amen!! I feel like I need to print this proclamation and post it at work (we have a couple of people saying they want to watch what they're eating and I'm like, MEH!)
  • I really, really wish someone would do something like this for Canada. (Ideally, though, it would be home-grown... I think Jamie's biggest problem is that he comes off as a bit "preachy" coming from the UK and telling Americans about food and how to eat it... not that I disagree with his vision at all!) As a Canadian I…
  • Crazy! I want to try that... although I suspect I'll fall off halfway through the first cycle. Thanks for posting! Usually on the treadmill I can get up to about 175-180 and sustain it for 20 minutes before I start feeling fatigue (and start pitching sideways)... seems like I should be able to go for longer, but maybe…
  • I did it more for the psychological aspect of it rather than the physical benefits of having an "up" day now and again... I can't do the willpower 100% of the time thing (tried it several times and failed miserably), so I let myself have anything I want one day of the week (which doesn't necessarily mean eating nothing but…
