I agree--I'm not sure it's medically sound to tell someone to go on a fast longer than 12 hours, especially if there's the possibility of blood sugar imbalance.
-
I feel exactly that way... I've had a family member who's a practicing doctor tell me that I've gotten too skinny, but I don't see it. I think my issue is that I know which parts of my body I want to cut the fat from and I don't see much difference in those areas, despite the fact that there's obvious weight loss from…

What is kangaroo meat like? Is it gamey or mild like beef?
-
I agree--dance!! If you're hungry, eat some fruit, otherwise I'd just close the log for today. It shouldn't hinder your weight loss if you're over on carbs, especially if you balance over the long-run.

In my experience, nuts are cheaper than pre-fab energy bars. I'm not sure what kinds of grocery stores you have around you, but within walking distance of my place there's a store that sells bulk nuts--pick up some of those and mix in some dried fruit if you can find it for an easy and relatively cheap snack.

I would say yes... I had the same experience with a cheeseburger about a month ago. If you've been eating really clean, your body wuoldn't be "ready" for something rich and sugary and fatty like cheesecake (mmmm...). I've heard that if you don't consume dairy for a while you start to "lose" your lactose-digesting enzymes,…

I can't do "real" pushups... I've stuck with the kneeling kind ("girl" pushups), and I'm having success with the 100 pushup challenge. My core isn't strong enough to do the real kind and my wrists get sore pretty quickly, so my plan is to finish the program with the kneeling pushups and then start over with real ones.

Drink water! If you have herbal tea, that's always helpful when I want sweets... and hit the sack early if you can... it's a good way to get rid of cravings.
-
Woohoo! Congrats--especially with the hospital stay (hope you're feeling better!) Keep up the awesome work!

Haha, go figure... "Yeah, there's something wrong with you but it's not that bad that we actually care, so goodbye." Sounds familiar to me. :grumble: The category I've heard of that's above "obese" is "morbidly obese"... same idea, and I know it sucks to be "told" that you're not just bad but, like, a whole level above…

I know how you feel! Especially when you mention that those around you are a) able to eat anything and "get away" with it, and b) take it as an insult if you don't stuff your face. It's so unfair... and it's hard to keep the goal of being healthy first and skinny second at the front of your mind when there's a slice of…

Yeah--go see a doctor... you could have something weird going on with your bones themselves, too, so better to go get checked out now rather than wait and pay the price.
-
Haha, there's lots of opinions out there--brace yourself! Personally, I figure as long as you're not using it *all* the time *every* day, no biggie. Better that you're still drinking water rather than drinking soda...

I usually do a really good trim for all my meat, although it's more because I *hate* the texture of fat--chewy, slimy, and oily. No thanks...
-
Woohoo! Congrats--that's a nice motivator to stay the course!
-
OMG that looks so cool!!! I'm almost considering driving down from Canada to participate...

Hey, I understand if you don't like doctors--I'm not their biggest fan either... but if you've got something that could possibly obstruct your GI tract you want to get that discovered and treated, because bowel obstructions are really nasty to deal with if you don't treat them quickly. If you're not in pain or fever (as…

Me too. Time to fix the mind now that the body's done...
-
Arrgh! I hate when that happens! Keep your chin up--time of day, eating, wearing certain types of clothes, and using a different scale all make one's weight go up from the "just woke up" weigh-in... don't beat yourself up over something that obviously isn't giving you an accurate data point. :flowerforyou:
-
My latest breakfast discovery is a multigrain oatmeal (PC Blue Menu, if you happen to live somewhere where they carry it)--for 170 cals, it gives you 6 grams of fiber, and I find I need to add a little bit of honey to sweeten it (1/2 tbsp = 30 cals, bringing the total to 200 calories). All you need is boiling water,…

Generally speaking, those who are at the gym to actually work out aren't watching you (they're so zoned-in to their own workouts they don't notice other people)... and those who might sit and watch and intimidate you aren't there to work hard, so who cares what they think! It's kind of like classes... you're still there to…

AHHHH!!! You really should go to the hospital (or a doctor if you can see one quickly) and *insist* on getting an answer... compose a list of your symptoms, when they happen, how long the last, where they are, and what you've done (and if it's worked)... obviously, if your abdomen is bloating up (from flat) there's a huge…

Hello! I totally understand the "freedom from parents" thing... it's a lot easier to eat well if *you* make the choices and *you* stock the fridge/pantry. I also don't have a scale at my place... but the gym has one, so there's one more reason for me to get my butt to the gym. (Really, though, inches are always a better…

Mmm, fajitas sound good! If you want a no-carb spin on those, I highly suggest lettuce wraps (basically, use iceberg or butter lettuce leaves instead of tortillas to wrap around the chicken/peppers/onions). If there's lots of fresh fruit around your grocery store, I'd say a nice fruit cocktail would make a great dessert…

Try and eat as many of the exercise cals as you can... you need the nutrients that those calories carry, especially in the form of protein (repair muscle tissue) and some carbs (restore muscle glycogen). I know it's sometimes tough to get enough cals without feeling like you're force-feeding (which is never a good thing to…
-
I agree--if it's a one-time thing (ie. not a chronic illness where you're constantly "unloading"), just count everything. Chances are, you won't need extra cals tonight since you're probably not feeling so hot, so take the hit and learn from the experience. (Seriously, though, it's a good thing you posted this. The…

Welcome! I know a couple of people with fibro and it's tough to hear about the bad days. Great job for deciding to make this change! I've heard that losing extra weight and cleaning up the diet tends to help reduce the pain, so hopefully it does exactly that for you--good luck!
-
I know how you feel--you're doing the work, but you aren't seeing progress that you feel equals the effort. Just hang in there! I can't promise that it'll go away, but you'll get where you're going eventually, even if it takes a *long* time.
-
WOW! You look awesome (especially the last shot... I wish we had nice beaches here in Alberta so the phrase "bikini season" could be more motivating than it is)... great job!!

I feel ya! Sometimes people can be so catty (if I can use that phrase in reference to men) without realizing that a) it's just mean, and b) it winds up making you look like a jerk to a *lot* of other people who are now aware that jerk-face is... well... a jerk. I know it sucks being in that position (especially afterwards…
