I like the idea of standardizing sizes... I remember when I was buying my back-to-school outfit for my first day of high school I tried on a pair of (popular brand-name) jeans in the same size as the store's brand, and I couldn't get them past my thighs. Not a good experience to prepare you for high school. On the other…

OMG, Just Desserts?!! I'll definitely be avoiding that show... it'll bankrupt me with all the ideas to try! All these fancy cooking shows with their fancy ingredients...

I try to keep a "sweet" tea on hand (currently it's Tetley Warmth--cinnamon spice with orange flavouring) to ward off cravings for sweet... since it's tea, it has no calories, and it counts as water (yay!). For salt cravings I usually take the hit and have a piece of cheese (mini Babybels are only 60 calories each),…

Haha, I was going to suggest that. I think if you show the facts to people--BMI, maybe even your food log--they might understand that while you're getting slimmer, you aren't going overboard, that you understand what you're doing. Make sure you team up with your sis--strength in numbers! 45 lbs down--awesome job!!
-
I would totally take that as a compliment as well--good job for all of your effort! Keep up the awesome work!

Make sure you're getting lots of rest--I found that when I tried to soldier through my workouts with a cold I didn't get better, but once I took a few days off I got better really quickly. For relief alone I like taking a hot shower for the steam, and of course, NeoCitron at night. Feel better soon!!

I googled this and found: http://www.ehow.com/about_5499083_do-bananas-give-stomach-cramps.html Not the most scientific source, but it goes to show it's not just in your head!

Welcome! I know how easy it is to forget this at first--trust me, though, it's addictive once you start logging stuff. Hopefully it'll be just what you need to break your plateau (I love the fact that it counts cals as well as other nutrients... gives a bigger picture than just calories or points). Good luck!

I think they're the best microwave meal out there... they have veggies mixed in (most others have just meat and starch), and the flavours are good (I really like their grilled chicken with spaghettini in herb sauce). I usually wait until they go on sale then stock up on a bunch since they keep for a while in the freezer.

Personally, I don't think one diet coke a day is bad at all. I tried to quit drinking coffee (which I thought was going to be easy since I usually only drink one cup a day), but it didn't work out so well. I think being able to have a little bit provides a little reassurance, but totally cutting it out makes you think…

I'm exactly the same way! I'm well and truly aware that diet and exercise alone won't work for everyone, but it drives me insane when my coworkers go on "crazy" diets because some celebrity says it's cool, or because of misinterpreted nutrition info (ie. eating nothing but fruit all day because "it's healthy"). I think it…

Bump! Hopefully the advice isn't just helpful for the guys!

I agree with the other posters--you're probably re-adjusting to a different diet. Depending on what you're eating you might be shorting yourself on nutrients as well as calories (ie. if you're eating very little amounts of junk food rather than lots of fruits and veggies to make up your 1300/day). I'd suggest upping your…

NICE JOB! I love that feeling of "finally" fitting into something smaller than the clothes you used to squeeze into. Way to go!

It takes a while to come out of starvation mode, and chances are that you will gain some--it's a case of "it gets worse before it gets better". This principle is why people on a lot of fad diets gain back more weight than they lost once they "finish" their diet plan... it sucks for now, but keep up the healthy eating…

I just started yesterday--glad to hear they get easier, because I came pretty close to face-planting yesterday on my last set. I'm also doing the 200 sit-up and 200 squat challenges to round out my resistance training plan for the next few weeks... here's hoping for some success!

Lookin' good!! (Thanks for this--it reminded me that I need to take a few pics of myself today!) Awesome job, keep up the good work!

I would recommend avoiding being super-stringent about your meals--I've tried planning meals by saying "x cals/meal, x carbs/meal, x protein/meal, etc." and it just becomes too confusing and worrying for me. Instead, try planning all of your meals ahead of time and making sure that they balance at the end of the day. Of…

I KNOW!!! I think it was Rachael Ray who said that once she brought a seafood salad to a party and someone's kid wanted some, and the parent said to the kid, "No, honey, you don't like seafood." I was floored--with all the talk out there of picky kids, why would you tell a child *they* don't like something? Lead by…

I get one every year--it might just be a fluke, but since I've started getting them I haven't gotten the flu, and I've noticed that I just get sick less overall (maybe the annual shot "primes" my immune system... or, like I said, maybe it's just good luck). Personally, I think vaccines are usually pretty effective and…

*waves!* Welcome! I'm sure you'll really enjoy MFP--it's a great tool for diet/exercise tracking, and the forums are great... lots of interesting information and good support! (No FB... are you *suuuuure*???)

It's entirely possible--granted, you'll have to make sacrifices elsewhere, like either working out more or eating fewer calories in other meals, but it's possible (I have pasta usually once or twice a week). Obviously, portion control is really important, and it's best to have pasta as more of a "side" than the main dish…

I stretch after running as a general rule--if I don't, I really pay the price the next day. Same for any strength training. I've also been told that one should do a gentle warm-up, do a full body stretch, and then start running/lifting... I'm too impatient to do this (bad, I know :blushing:), but it might help you…

YAAAAYYYY!!! Congrats! Way to stick with the program! I would recommend going to maintenance for a little while, just to see how your body reacts--for the first little while on maintenance I actually lost a couple of pounds before I stabilized. See how you feel after, say, a month, and go from there. And don't forget to…

Mine too: serving = 1 cup, and there's a gram measurement as well, but since I don't have a food scale I just go with cups. The way I learned, there's two types of measuring cups--ones for solid/dry ingredients (which are the scooping-type ones... sorry, can't think of a better description) and ones for liquids (which look…

Aww... no such luck for Edmonton... that looks like a really good deal!

I say go with the lighter weight--I always "gain" weight at the day goes on, so I weigh early in the morning if I can manage it (before I've even had my coffee). My "base" weight can even fluctuate during the week, so I avoid weighing every day (and, I've almost stopped weighing completely, because I've been getting a bit…

Um... what? How did they twist the facts for that one?! I, too, agree with goatskinlegs et al... bananas really aren't too bad for you, and avocados are super good for you! I'm intrigued by the oat bran idea... maybe that would up the fiber, too?

I feel ya! I also like to tell myself that when winter hits I'm burning more calories just because it's freakin' cold... Good job, moonport!! It's so awesome to be able to enjoy the things you love and still feel good about it!
