Copied this from a post I say
FOOD FOR THOUGHT LITERLY
TIP OF THE DAY!!!
There are 3 point about the nutrition!
1. It is about the food
2. food
...3. food
You have a choice on what you put into your mouth and into your kids.
It is not the Presidents fault, doctors fault, friends fault, trainer fault, grocery stores fault.
It is your FAULT. Make a change now on what you eat so you can live a healthier life and enjoy it with you kids and love ones.See More

So true! I just laugh when I hear parents say, "my kid wont drink water or milk; only juice". Um, stop buying juice! :laugh:0

How true it is!0

I'm one of those parents saying my kid won't drink anything but milk, but he's still a baby and needs it so I don't complain too much, just wish he would drink some water every now and then
I agree though, we are the ones to blame for ourselves and our kids! About a month ago I was telling someone about how my son is picky but loves grilled chicken. That person suggested I take him to McDonalds and see if he'd like a cheeseburger...UM he's only 15 months! No way! I get it, McD's is kind of a right of passage with the whole happy meal thing, but he's a baby and does not need to eat that kind of junk.0 -

I agree! I don't even think my kids know what juice is! I only give them water and a cup of milk with each meal! Now if I could just get them to eat their broccoli...:grumble:0 -
I love that quote!!!! Way too many people blame everything but themselves for things that are obviously their own faults!0

I KNOW!!! I think it was Rachael Ray who said that once she brought a seafood salad to a party and someone's kid wanted some, and the parent said to the kid, "No, honey, you don't like seafood." I was floored--with all the talk out there of picky kids, why would you tell a child *they* don't like something? Lead by example, Mom and Dad!
Same kind of goes for adults... granted, I generally won't touch certain foods because I don't like them, but I'm willing to try new things, and I know a lot of adults who are almost worse than kids about refusing new foods.
Good tip!!0 -
melbhall, I cannot believe someone told you to get your kid something from McDonalds! I would like to say that when I have kids they will never eat McDonalds (probably won't happen), but I don't eat McDonalds and would not want my kids eating that food. Yet there are people out there trying to do things like get rid of happy meal toys so McDonalds would make them healthier. It's CHEAP food, it's not going to be healthy!0

You can say that again. I fat because I don't know how to say "when". It is nobodys fault but my own.0

Lol, my mom got lucky.. When I was a kid i didn't like coke and candy much.. I asked for fruit and veggies. My 'bad food' habit as a kid was coffee and beef jerky. If only things were still as simple, I have learned to appreciate candy and coke... lol. Fortunalely I don't usally crave those things.0

Hi all,
I know what you mean about children. When my oldest son was a toddler a friend tried to get him to drink soda. After being nice for quite a while I had to finally tell him 'NOT' to give my son soda! My oldest was the pickiest eater. I was a very strict person with food when he was born. I gave up trying to make him eat certain things. I dont keep junk in the house so that was not the issue. When my second child came around I did not force her. I took a different approach and just let her eat the food she wanted. When they see you eating and enjoying things they want what is on your plate. So just make sure the things on your plate are healthy. If you wanted to try something different to drink you might try almond milk. If you feel like your child could stand more water than juice than start doing half water and half juice in their drink. Think of using 100% juice more as a flavor and color. You can always throw just enough juice in the blender to get fruit..frozen is nice.. blended for a nice treat. A straw is magic ;-}0 -

My kids (2 and 3) love their broccoli and so many other veggies.....I just had to find the right way to cook them. I steam the broccoli and most other veggies until they are cooked but still crisp and the kids eat handfuls of them. Sometimes they will have a little butter/margarine on them but most of the time they eat them plain. My son is definitely more adventurous than my daughter, and eats red cabbage, avocado, yams, beans, pretty much what you put in front of him. My daughter needs to watch us eat it for several meals before she will try it, or wants to try it from our plate, because it has to be better than what is on hers!0
