What I said on your post. Allow yourself fun treats, but PLAN them. Like, only every other Friday have a bad meal. Know what you are going to eat. Also, if you snack a lot, make the snacks in your house better, and follow the tips on a recent post someone started about ways to avoid late night snacking. If you look on my…

I used to snack a lot at night and that was a huge problem for me even when I had to be in bed for work the next day. These are the tactics that finally cured me: 1. Don't eat anything else after you brush your teeth. Only drink water, nothing else. Even diet soda can cause cravings. This acts as a done signal to your…

That is fabulous! It looks like you are on a major losing streak, and not the bad kind! It is great that you are starting to early in life. I am thirty and wish I had been able and willing to take control earlier. So good for you!

Working on school work tonight too, so you are not alone! Wrote a new blog post for my social media project (on weight loss, lol) and I SHOULD be reading for my PR class...not sure that is happening. Lurking on FB and MFP and wondering why it is dead tonight sounds relatively more fun, haha...

Thanks for checking it out! Feedback from people around this community would mean a lot to me! :blushing:

I am unfortunate that I sweat a lot even when I sit at my desk and do nothing at all. Sometimes I have an odor issue and sometimes I don't. Eventually had to go to the doctor and get a prescription that I use two nights a week and wash off the next morning. It has helped so much! I feel like my professional image isn't…

People who are sensitive for sugar or have metabolic issues will struggle with being sleepy and tired. My mother, who was diagnosed with diabetes a couple of years ago struggled for years with just wanted to nap in the afternoons. So you might want to go lower on the sugar. Have you been tested recently?

I am from the moderate camp. If I don't let myself eat some of the 'bad' stuff, I would be miserable and never be able to keep it up. You only live once so not completely giving up stuff that is pleasant for you as long as you are careful with it makes sense to me. It also helps me spend time with my family (who are…

Between yesterday and today I watched all four episodes. It was both depressing and motivating. I can see why it would drive you to start taking your health seriously, and kudos for watching and and choosing to act! I know too many people far heavier than I am that will probably never watch it because it makes them…

Wow that is really amazing! It is so wonderful when people share their stories on here, particularly people who had such a significant struggle. If you can lose weight, I can certain lose my 100 lbs and I feel very inspired and challenged! I also have had a lot of social issues and just like weight loss, it takes…

Dunno much about Taubes so I can't say much about his opinion, but I am certainly interested in the studies. Thanks for providing a link! I have an acct with the University library to read a lot of professional journals for free so I'll have to go check around and see what other studies are out there and available to me. I…

Yeah I tend to avoid family and friends more because I know family = eating out = :explode: As long as your agenda is different from those around you it is inevitable. Find friends who share your concerns, or try to meet your friends and family in the middle. I hope the next time I go home and there is nothing going on, I…

Naps are very good for your body after being stressed and it will help you be more active the rest of the day. A cool afternoon nap after spending a morning washing and waxing my SUV in the hot FL weather is great in my book! And it is true, as you become more fit you will feel less of a need to nap and more able to get up…

Keep an eye on areas that you might not typically notice or measure. After 10 lbs I thought I couldn't really tell anything either, until one day I realized my face is showing it just enough that it wasn't really easily noticable. Hands, fingers, wrists, feet, ankles, rear, face...they are all places weight loss can sneak…

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/03/opinion/sunday/we-only-think-we-know-the-truth-about-salt.html?pagewanted=all This was a very interesting read on salt. It makes me want to read the research about the negative impacts of sodium.

If you want some good humor, I am blogging about weight loss for school this summer. So far I have gotten really good feedback on it and am having so much fun writing about it! My angle is talking about it like a bad romantic relationship, lol... flabeviction.wordpress.com Check me out! I welcome follows, likes, comments,…

I honestly believe one day you will be glad this happened. Being strong enough to do this on your own is something you can obviously achieve, and know that one day when you weigh less, you won't be weighed back down by additional health problems caused by the surgery as so many people are. I have known people to get these…

Some people just do not know how to handle interactions with someone with obvious issues, so it is reasonable to avoid it rather than getting themselves into an unpleasant or sticky situation. If you see someone starving themselves or something else that isn't healthy, do you say something? What do you say? Depending on…

I didn't drink diet soda but I did use a lot of sugar free drink packets after I stopped drinking regular soda and juice. I never had any issues with the artificial sweetners like headaches, but I did notice after I gave up drinking sweetened drinks on a regular basis that I stopped having insatiable cravings for sweets or…

I have been told several times with my most recent blood tests that I have borderline low thyroid. Since I am not being treated for it I started researching what could be affecting it. A lot of foods will (soy, strawberries, raw spinach, almonds, etc) but I also saw a lot of information regarding fluoride treated city…

Gluten free cereal. I have not paid enough attention to what is gluten free and what is not, but I eat granola bars, string cheese, apple sauce, cereal, occasional hard mints, pretzel thins, whole grain crackers. Some websites like chocolatecoveredkatie.com has sweet stuff that is vegan, and at least some are gluten free I…

I started getting irked when I was attending the community college here. I would notice that the biggest parking space vultures were normally young, slim, healthy-looking guys being completely careless of the trouble it was causing anyone else. I usually parked way out as a matter of course unless I was on a tighter…

When I lived in a two story town home a couple of years ago I started developing some shape. If you work in a place with stairs, always take the stairs! Additional workouts will speed up the progress.

Asparagus: roast in the oven with olive oil, ginger, oregano, garlic, and some Parmesan on top! The sprinkle of cheese browns nicely and you can cook them just long enough to keep them as crisp as you'd like. I adore this recipe and have no desire to cook asparagus any other way! I like pan searing sliced summer squash,…

My favorite author currently is Sharon Shinn. She writes mostly fantasy/sci-fi and is amazing at creating unique, intriguing worlds and developing characters, the second of which I have found a lot of books in the sci-fi genre rather lacking in. Her Samaria series is my favorite of her books! They do contain romance, but…

I am not short, but I can tell you MFP does give screwy numbers. It gave me around 1700 calories, but from everything I have seen, my BMR (minimum calorie intake) should be around 2000. The best way to find what to eat is calculate your BMR and TDEE (I think a website called fitnessfrog has good ones) and then you would…

I am 5'8 and right now I am just aiming for under 200. After I get down to an easily manageable weight I will probably look more at what a reasonable goal would be and probably start doing more weight training. I am guessing anywhere from 140 to 160 or so.

I have one and enjoy using it from time to time, but it is a pain to pull out and put away because my cat would chew on the cords if I left it sitting out all the time. :grumble: I am interested in finding other games that would be fun and good exercise as well! I just need something that doesn't take any kind of excellent…

This drove me crazy as well. I finally simplified it this way: TDEE (Highest your calories should go to maintain - For example, mine is roughly 2800) (You aim for your daily calories to fall somewhere in between, usually 15-20% below TDEE) BMR (Lowest you can go without screwing up your metabolism - For example, mine is…

Thanks for the suggestions so far! I was worried for a while there I wasn't going to get any! Eventually I will have to attempt a 'viral' post, lol, so I'm not sure what in the world I could use for that either. Oh, this is going to be an interesting semester...!
