  • Feel free to add away! Welcome to the ride. Just hang on and DON"T GET OFF! LOL Good luck and welcome to the family.
  • This and Lentils, Quinoa, and one of my favorite. Ostrim Meat snacks. The ones I get are beef and Ostrich, 80 calories 1 and a half grams of fat and 14g of protein. A nice boost of protein for a fairly small top calorie hit.
  • Yup. Meal timing is irrevlevant in regard to body composition. 1 meal, 2 meals, 10 meals doesn't matter as long as you are eating your allotted calories for the day. You wake up at point A, and go to bed at Point B, eat in between. I personally eat 5 or 6 times a day but that's simply because, It keeps my hunger in check.…
  • I agree, Vegetables can be your best friend. Interestingly enough, I don't recall ever hearing the phrase..." I got fat eating vegetables" :o)
  • I am diabetic as well but NIDDM so my situation may be different from yours if your medicated. My Sugar grams are set at 45g daily with calories at 2400 daily. I almost always go over between 10 and 20 grams but my Blood Glucose levels are good. My AM fasting BS is usually between 80 and 90. I think that's the key. Sugar…
  • I didn't like it alot, but as I got better at it, I didn't mind it so much. I did do 5 rounds of the "X" and didn't skip yoga once. It's a means to an end. Was it necessary for success? I suspect not. LOL but I am ALOT more flexible than I was, and I like that. :o)
  • Apparently there are no studies or research that support the "caffeine diuretic" claim. Any claims to the contrary appear to be anechdotal at best. So until science proves that it is a diuretic, I will continue to count ALL liquid intake. But that's just me.
  • Alot of experts now say the 8 glasses a day is not current. You may not need that much. Basically if your thirsty, you drink. I'd drink all you feel comfortable with and not worry. Check this news report. It echoes what alot are saying. http://www.cbsnews.com/2100-18563_162-3991145.html
  • Yup. Exercise in the morning will boost that metabolism. One word of caution.... I am usually more hungry than nirmal on workout days and I'm an AM trainer. Might not be the case for everyone, but.... . :o)
  • I find a cheap way to change the flavor is to add extracts and flavorings. Currently I have Optimum nutrition Vanilla Ice cream which isn't all that great, I won't buy it again. But A little coconut flavoring, and some cinnamon and I'm good.
  • Amazing job. Be driven, it's all yours!
  • There's no magic in any meal replacement methods. All recomend that you eat a healthy balanced diet and exercise for "optimum resutls" and they are all designed to put you in a calorie deficit which is where the magic really happens. Herbs and supplelments can in some cases give you a metabolic boost, but it still will not…
  • You can log it but you have to measure or give your best guess as to what you use in a recipe then use the recipe tab on MFP to type it in. Does take a bit of doing at first but unless you only make something one time and never again, you will eventually build up a database of your favorites and its easy to log. If not…
  • I myself haven't seen any peer based studies as to wether or not it helps with weight loss. It does have lots of antioxidents and polyphenols. There have been lots of studies for it's health benefits. here are some reported results from one of the larger long term studies. Green Tea Benefits In Women 23% lower risk of…
  • Most of that is stuff I've read before and seems reasonable. I drink a gallon a day but that's because I take creatine which draws fluid into muscle, without adequate water, dehydration could occur. Not sure about the bottled water is better than tap though, I guess it depends on the source. For instance, I know that my…
  • My work and daily schedule is such that I get up at 3:30am and workout before work. I get around 5-6 hours a night and I function good on that amount. I usually sleep late at least 1 day on the weekend to make up for the week, kinda like a cheat day for sleep. Been doing this for about a year so far. We'll see how long I…
  • In my opinion, probably 4-5 pounds first week was water, after that, provided nutrtion was in an overall deficit, fat lass. Could be a tiny amount of muscle loss thrown in as well, but I'd say your losing fat.
  • Thanks! I've always been a subscriber to "You get out of it what you put into it", so that's what I do. I try to do everything with as good a form as I can but if it ain't perfect, so be it. The trick for me was to never skip a workout. Consistency wins the game. anayway it did for me! LOL
  • This is me as well. I had NEVER lifted weights until I started working out to lose my weight so I believe I had really underdeveloped arms. We're thinking alike, I just finished a 5 month bulk and gained 20 pounds. Hopefully more muscle than not. I'm now in my second week of cutting, time to uncover some muscle. We'll see…
  • I don't know that I'd hold much stock in what the scale says. The bioelectric pads are notoriously inaccurate. They will misrepresent your bodyfat as well. A fair indication of proper hydration is thirst, But I'd bet at 2 liters a day, your probably OK. I usually get around a gallon a day but I take creatine which requires…
  • The P90X worked for me. in the end, I believe it was worth the money.
  • Exactly What I'm trying to do as well ! LOL I've got nothing better to do for the next few years. We'll have to start an over-40 bodybuilders thread.
  • for me, weight loss was like a funnel full of water. At first, I could barely see a change, but the further along you go the more noticeable the changes are, There will be plateaus along the way, just don't get discouraged. keep your head in the game.
  • It's tough. I was a big guy most of my adult life and being thin was totally foreign. In the beginning everyone knew I was trying to lose weight but I wasn't sure if the compliments were genuine. I am also not one for adulation so when people would comment on my weight loss, instead of sheepishly thanking them, I'd simply…
  • I'm a fan of most any of the Kashi cereals.
  • I'm with you brother, this should be the quote of the week. Everything that we ( and I assume most everyone else) pass along in the forums are our current beliefs and that which makes the most sense to us; If everyone agreed on everything, then we'd never learn anything new. That's why I'm ALWAYS open to new ideas, and I'm…
  • I agree with some of this. I do not agree that whey is far superior to all other protein sources. I believe as do many others that whole foods are superior sources. Also the idea that the body requires an "injection of protein" post workout is indeed old data. The latest studies show that the protein synthesis window of…
  • In reality it doesn't really matter when you drink a protein shake as long as you are hitting your daily macros and including it into your protein count. You do not need to drink a protein shake within an hour pre or post exercise. The protein synthesis window is more like 24 hours as opposed to 1 hour as some sources…
  • yup. I'm in that boat. From what I've read, loose skin will shrink up to a certain extent depending on age and amount of weight loss. I myself never got rid of it all, at least not yet. Still hopefull, although it has been a year since I lost 100 pounds, I still have a bit around my waist line.
  • Discipline. Just comes down to sticking to your diet. Having said that you can cheat a little. But don't let it get outa hand too often. IF you want it bad enough, you sacrifice a bit.
