  • For me, changing my diet made me lose the weight. Exercise will ensure that I never gain it back. But it is indeed a very individual thing.
  • Good question. I myself train in the morning and I prefer to train on an empty stomach. I feel much better after my workout. You can buy hydrolyzed whey protein isolates, but if it's for the sake of ingesting protein in conjunction with exercise, it isn't necessary immediatlely before or after a workout. If it's for…
  • Yes, started at 140/100 with a resting heart rate of 90-95. after dropping weight and exercising 6 days a week for a year, BP averages 105/65, resting heart rate 55-60. THey don't call it cardio fer nuthin! ;o)
  • I was diagnosed in July of 2010. My A1C was 9.4. It was a total shock. It is what prompted me to get healthy and turn my life around. That and high blood pressure, elevated heart rate, high cholesterol and high sodium. my last A1C was 5.7 and I have been off all meds ( I was on 4 ) for over a year. You can take your health…
  • Fruit and Kashi bars, works for me;o)

  • The multi and fish oil is fine although you can get all you need from good balanced nutrition. Often times, multis and omegas are recommended for those unable to maintain healthy food choices or for those who have health issues that create a micronutrient difficiency. They whey is a matter of choice, but If your eating a…
  • If your eating close to maintenance and exercising everyday the weight can actually go up. exercise causes micro trauma to the muscle tissue. Muscles repair themselves by drawing fluid into them to allow them to repair themselves thus retaining a bit of water. Muscle soreness can indicator of this. If you've ever…
  • Try googling something called Michi's Ladder. It was a food list put out by Beachbody.com in some of their earlier workout programs. It gives you lists of food, borken down into 5 tiers. The top tiers consist of the foods that are considered the most healthy and the lower tiers not so good. It also indicates which foods…
  • The exercise is one of the things driving your metabolism. Dont stop that. if your eating 200-400 below bmr and not allowing calories burned in exercise you are probably eating too far below BMR. Just follow MFP you can adjust after 2 weeks if weight loss doesn't happen but you need to trust the numbers.
  • This will happen in the first 2 weeks, it's usually water weight, hence the shrinking body parts. it will slow down, but keep it up, Drinking extra water can actually help release water from your tissues. It's a strange idea but it has something to do with liver function. Check out the link below. Your Doing great!…
  • Do be careful when drinking alcohol. Make sure you eat before. When people are dieting or in a calorie deficit, blood sugar levels tend to be on the lower side and alcohol can lower your blood sugar even more. Don't wanna bonk yourself! Just my 2 cents
  • Agave is not calorie free, has about 20 calories per teaspoon. But it does taste great! Love it in plain yogurt
  • I will log it but I guess at it. Whenever we have a 'food day' at the office where all kinds of good stuff magically appears, I will nibble all day unfortunately. Unless your doing it everyday, just guess at it. You'll be fine. Why is it Costco almost never has samples of healthy stuff? LOL
  • To me it seems like another supplement company selling meal replacements and vitamins while also telling you to eat a healthy diet.... and charging you alot for it. The design of alot of these vitamin and herbal supplements is to not only provide Micronutrients but also to incorporate 'natural diet suppressing' additives.…
  • Ditto on the 6x8 room. I did P90X for 5 rounds and it is similar in many respects to other Beach Body products. You can do it.
  • not knowing your current weight, I'd guess your not eating enough. 900 isn't enough to maintain a proper metabolic state. I would try upping cals a hundred at a time and get closer to your net caloric goal. try it for a couple of weeks and see what the weight does. Being 4 pounds from your goal though, your results will…
  • ^^^ on the money. The only way in my opinion to have permanent weight loss is to change the way you eat and what you eat. All weight loss pills, shakes and plans have the same disclaimer. With proper diet and exercise. Funny thing is, with proper diet and exercise, you'll do just fine without the costly plans and pills.…
  • I'd say make your own. You can include only the stuff you like or need and have total control over excess sodium that always seems to be in most canned soups. I make a big pot and portion it out for two weeks worth and freeze it in ziploc bags. The recipe tab on MFP works great for this. Hope this helps.
  • Pizza, in general and krispy kreme donuts. It takes all my willpower to step back from the donuts!
  • I'm all for anything nutritious, and shakeology certainly has alot of stuff in it. BUT, I agree with all of the posters who say it's overpriced, way overpriced. After looking at the ingredients list it appears to be a whey protein isolate product with a whole food vitamin kicker. I'm sure there could possibly be some…
  • OK. I'mgonna be the odd one in the group. I photograph..... RETINAS ! Ophthalmic photographer actually. Used to run portrait studios and photo labs before, but it's all about the eyes now. LOL Topcon 50IX Zeiss FF450plus Specialize in Retinal angiography 15+ years
  • Hi, I'm at the other end of the journey. I just finished losing 100 pounds, I'm one of those people who didn't dissappear and wants nothing more than to help everyone else get here! LOL Anyway. I am standing up and cheering for all of you, DONT GIVE UP, You'll get there before you know it. If you need any advice, tips,…
  • Welcome to the club, you're in for a tough but life-changing ride! Track everything you eat, drink ALOT of water, and by all means EXERCISE if you are able. It turbo charges everything. more tips to follow.... ;O)
  • Stress eating is a tough thing to overcome. That kind of eating is often an unconscious, irrational response to stress. What works for me? A couple of things. 15 mintues of yoga. It's a great distraction. also....DANCE! When you feel the stress, put on your favorite band and just jump around for awhile. It's a great mood…
  • water, water, water. It's a good place to start. A few snacks here and there are OK but start off by downing a bottle of water. Also I like to make rules for myself. If I'm gonna have a not so healthy snack, then I pair it with carrot or celery sticks, or something low cal. You can get pretty inventive, but defintely start…
  • I had a similar problem as well. My eating habits were often dictated by habit and not hunger. Here's what worked for me. I changed my daily routine. Everyday, I did things in a different order. Something as simple as squeezing shampoo out of the bottle using the other hand. Brush your teeth with the oposite hand, walk the…
  • I agree. When your goal is to lose weight, the macronutrient breakdown MFP sets for you is most likely sufficient to help maintain muscle mass and lose weight. You won't likely gain much if any muscle when losing weight, your goal is to maintain as much muscle mass as you can while losing weight. The idea is that muscle…
  • For me quitting smoking was harder than losing weight, but I quit cold turkey 18 years ago. In my opinion it is the best way. you have to get free of the nicotine addiction. after about 2 weeks the cravings subside and it gets a little easier. If you are serious about exercising, the smoking is a huge brick wall. It kills…
  • Alan Aragon [/quote] ^^^^ THIS ! When you get through all of the nutrition myths, you'll realize how ridiculously and needlessly over-complicated nutrition has become over the years. Here's another study (Phillips et al., 1997) that even suggests that the protein synthesis "window " could be as long as 48 hours. I haven't…
