Some cheaper ones run about 30 to 40$ but i'm not sure if they calculate calories burned. Some folks on here have bought them and have been happy with these models while others haven't. Type in HRM in MFP and you will get a TON of advice on different models. THe popular one here is the Polar f4,F6, and F11 series starting…

I was reminded today how important exercise is in losing weight. It forces us to think about our bodies in a deeper way, connect with it and LISTEN to it more than when we are just cutting calories. When we exercise our good and bad food choices can become even more evident when our body needs healthy fuel for energy or…

Boy who'd a known hummus could bring on 4 pages of replies- looks like Tam struck a chord here!

Tahini also can help in making a killer salad dressing with lemon, garlic, olive oil or used as a marinade for both roasted veggies and meats!

if you don't have access to a trainer but have a gym membership check out the classes- many classes incorporate free lifting in them (especially the circuit training boot camp style) and you can learn the basics from the class instructors who will also usually, if they're any good, go over proper stances etc.. This was how…

If i wear my HRM 3 times or so for 24 hours, average the results for the 3 days then will this give me something similar to the machine tests?

i don't have a desk job but have in the past and know its hard. I used to actually feel really tired afterwork even though i'd been sitting down all day! IT can really help if you bring some walking shoes to work and take a long, brisk walk during lunch. Other folks in your office who'd be interested in that could make it…

I'm set at 1250 but exercise everyday and then i eat up those calories though i'm also subtracting my basal metabolic calories from exercise calories and i use a HRM so i can be as accurate as possible. With this i usually end up eating 1500-1900 cal/ a day depending on my workout ( i always have 150 exercise cal from my…

I've had both the Sabra and Athenos and the Sabra is TO KILL FOR (Ahh soo very creamy) but...... i think it also has twice the calories as Athenos- 50 cal 2 tbs! Can't beat that!

interesting info here. I like comparing different exercises with my HRM and the difference in the time it takes to burn the same number of cals etc. I always subtract my metabolic basal calories but i tell ya- it's like pulling teeth every time!

well i have that they're 200 cal per 2 ounce of dry noodles- I don't know what that comes out to but I'm pretty sure its less cal than rice and other pastas. All carbs seem to be somewhat high in cals i just thought these were a little lower relative to everything else.

Soba noodles are low cal buckwheat noodles often used in Japaneses dishes. Any of the ingrediant below can be left out if desired. Add 6 oz of dried soba noodles to boiling water (2-3 c) and let cook for 2 mins or so. Drain and rinse well under cold water. In a large bowl and the following items: Slice red or Napa cabbage…

This is good info because when i first got my HRM i noticed i reached and STAYED within my max HR quite often. I thought maybe the max HR calculation was off but wasn't sure. From what some of you are saying is this is really only an estimate and if my calculated max is 188 it wouldn't weird if i could hold 190-200 for 5…

Its good to try the classes even if you feel silly at first-everyone does. The cool thing about the classes after your ready to try them is you can learn new stuff plus the instructors will often push you harder than you may push yourself (read: motivate). I do both and really look forward to the days i have my favorite…

For those of you needing to know how much certain activities (DVD's etc) burn in calories or just want a comparison to mfp calculations i found this link on line. It calculates calories burned based on average heart rate. If you don't have a monitor you can take your pulse 4-5 times throughout the course of an activity and…

Ooh i just found this too- soba noodle salad from Healthy recipes.com- sounds like perfect leftover lunch meal! Serve with grilled salmon and a green vegetable such as snow peas for a fabulously different meal. 1/3 cup orange juice 2 teaspoons honey 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar 1 teaspoon sesame oil 1 tablespoon low…

That's awesome!! I've been looking for some sort of pasta rice replacement since they have so many calories. Never heard of them though- do they cook like udon noodles and other sort of asian noodles? Like, boil them in water?
