Fat!- like chocolate, cheese. Actually, I almost always try to have 100-200 cal left for chocolate or something else pretty rich that I avoid during the day. It keeps me going.

Thanks for your moral support- I guess we just need a critical mass in our "middle of nowhere" regions. Actually, i'm in the capital of michigan (Lansing) pretty big town with several colleges but still very limited choices. Sounds like some of you have it a bit worse though. I suppose as one person put it, it comes down…

having several small meals a day is a very good way to not let yourself get hungry. .its often recommended over 3 big meals but i don't know what it does to the metabolism, i just know it helps me a lot also

S**T- i hope i like it better than you do since i'll be there for 4 years. Anyway- I'll around and see what I can find. thanks for the warning! LOL

One thing to keep in mind is when you build up your quads too much without having strong hamstrings you are at a higher risk of injurgy. I would suggest doing hamstring strength building. ONe easy way is to sit in a rolling chair on a carpet or something that will give a little resistance and walk your legs forward across…

I'm 32 and my heart rate often gets up to 160 and even as high as my max. Remember even the estimates for your max HR is only an estimate. I don't run very often but occasionally i'll do 10 min on the treadmill and my HR starts out at 145 (this is follwoing a long workout) and slowly climbs so by the end its up to about…

IT was in Humbolt county outside Eureka. Its called Tour of the Unknown Coast and was started about 28 years ago- goes through Avenue of the Giants, Redwood State Park down to Highway One and back up to Ferndale- Absolutely beautiful! Are you from No. Cal?

I am so so very proud myself - With some training on the weekends I was able to complete my first 100 mile bike ride in beautiful northern California! It was a killer with tons of climbing and i'll probably be recovering until the end of July but it was definitely worth it. I think my weight loss and strength training,…

I am happy to share that I reached my end goal this week, nearly 2 months early! I feel great and am happy with my body but am considering to continue the same daily goals i've been using. I'm 5"2 and weighed in this morning at 125. When i was thin, this was basically what I weighed- along time ago, but i sorta remember…

He he, that's funny i forgot about those giant boxes!! I had Blood sugar sex magic on tape (dubbed-remember that?) Man, this is such a kick- I was such a DM fan I had all their portraits on my bedroom wall in junior high.... drooling pre-teen)

you could also try a V-sit pose. Where, with a straight back, you sit on your haunches lift your legs straight up infront of you and raise your arms ot hte the side, like a "V" with your body, and hold this as long as you can before your back starts slouching. To modify, use your arms to lightly support your legs if you…

On the elliptical sometimes I will do a 5 min warm up and than high intensity for 30-40 sec (heart rate at max (185-190) bring my HR back to mid level (160-170) for 1.5 min and then reapeat, i do this for about 8 times then a cool down. I increase the intensity by increasing the resistance and speed. This works really well…

Maybe some Ideas......Jump rope, jumping jacks, videos, dancing, if you have stairs- running up and down.

I'm so sorry to hear all that but it sounds like your working hard to stay on course. I'm also an ex-smoker- quit in August- and without being too discouraging I have read a few studies that suggests nicotine artificially elevates some people's metabolism. Quiting smoking may then bring your metabolism back to its normal…

I weigh myself every morning before showering and breakfast. For me the scale is either dropping (yeah!) or within 0.5-1.5 lbs from the previous day. Here's my point. Today i weighed 3 lbs less than yesterday ( bit unusual) and what if today were my weigh-in day? or yesterday? It seems like a accurate approach is to weigh…

That must be so exciting that your husband is coming home soon! And you will look terrific! Good luck this week. Oh, I like the water goal, maybe i'll do the same.

yes, morning workouts also kill me. I can get through work but on my days off like today i just want to lay around afterwards which would leave me with a wasted weekend. I don't have a good answer but I know how you feel. It may be that some of us are night people and some of us are morning people, like when i was in…

you can... but i really don't think it would work too well especially in any baking. Try checking out vegan baking recipes and see what they say.

its been hard. I've had 2 12 oz cans each day. I'm nervous about the jump to none. I'll keep trying this maybe until it feel "normal" and then consider going to one a day. Keep up the good work everyone!! and drink your water:drinker:
-
that's awesome! Well, yesterday i had 2 cans which is better than normal. Today i will try to do better!

These are so very funny! what a great thread to bring a smile! My pups chases any sort of light reflection and when the sun sets she starts licking the walls and floor in the kitchen obsessively trying to "get" it. My parents dog grew up in the woods for many years without any other dogs around and he still, at 13, hops…

Yes, my best memories growing up involve being outside, T-ball, four square, bike rides, camp, whatever. What kind of memories are kids developing today, let alone habits and, as some of you have put, discipline? Of course, as neighborhoods deteriorate what options do some children really have? Fortunately this is one of…

I know how you feel the past 2 days my quads were killing- i think i've actually been walking with a limp! HA! its hard to do but the best thing is to MOVE the next day and work out that lactic acid build up in your legs. Take it easy but do a mild work out to move those muscles.
-
Awesome! I guess the best way to follow the thread is just look for the title everyday. We can all post everyday how successful we've been, changes we may feel etc. and that will keep it going. Open to any other ideas. I will probably post in the evening after i know how the day went. I know my water intake will increase…

It is tough, and i was actually thinking maybe i've made a mistake like "i can't do this. its crazy, I love Diet Coke and I'm already on a stinkin' diet" but.....I think i realized that this change MUST include diet coke for it to be real. I also drink a lot of coffee and am not worried about the headaches or caffeine,…

Kids not playing outside as much definitely seems to be true, in part due to all their access to electronic media but i've also noticed many parents are AFRAID to let their children play alone outside even though i've read reports saying that child abductions have not increased in the past 30 years. I live in a VERY safe…

So I just finished reading all the responses to Amy's post in Weight Loss and Dieting about drinking diet coke (below) and it sounds like there may be enough folks interested in starting a thread for breaking the diet soda addiction. I'm inspired from all the responses to give this a serious shot! I drink several 12 oz.…

i don't really swim because i'm terrible at it but i've heard many times it is like the superfood for exercise. It works all muscle groups and is not hard on your joints like running can be. Personally if i want to burn a lot of calories in a short time then i do interval work or take a vigorous bike ride.
