Yes, all 43 lbs with a low cal diet at MFP. No gym, or exercise to talk about I am now starting to exercise. but no gym planned

I think that is a TYPO in the study. Clearly they introduce large quantities of potassium during their tests, since they feed their subjects a LOT of carrot juice. So Potassium is ok for them. The limitations on this study are clearly shown in it. Nevertheless, it is an interesting one. Here is an extract: "Owing to the…

I have started to read that study. Really, really interesting ! Thanks for sharing. "Meat, fish, poultry, eggs, fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, canola oil, mayonnaise and honey were included in the Ramp and Paleo phases of the diet. We excluded dairy products, legumes, cereals, grains, potatoes and products containing…

bump ! Love all of these !

And why can't they have the same crash phase 1, by using net cals to 1000? And why is 1000 a magical number? Is it the same number no matter if male, female, small or large? Really, it does not sound as anything that I would do. But if it works for some of you, well I can't try to convince you of not using it.

No exercise allowed ! Wow  If you exercise, and want to keep that very low 1000 cals net, you just need to eat more. Why on earth would they not allow exercise ?? That is really contrary to any sensible program

I have done some research, as I had never heard of Ideal Protein Diet. http://www.idealprotein.com/us/customers-first So it is a Product Trademark, and they sell you food. Hmmm.... not really what I would want to do. Why do we need some company to sell us food we can obtain at the store for much lower prices?

Thank you for the article. Very interesting ! I like the conclusions, which pretty much agree to how I see meat: "The bottom line: As always, what you eat is up to you. The argument isn’t about whether you should or shouldn’t eat meat–it’s about whether red meat is inherently dangerous. As a practical way to ensure your…

Great ! So you do like some vegetables ! No problem if you start by using vegetable dip ! As you eat more often, you will find the need for the dip less and less. You do not need to eat a lot of tomato, or any vegetable for that matter. Try one roma tomato in the morning, maybe sliced in your ham sandwich (I do that very…

Just looking at your pics, I can tell you that you are absolutely NOT disgusting ! You are actually a beautiful, sweet girl. Really. I have seen at MFP so many examples of people turning around their lives, that I know that you can do this ! :flowerforyou:
-
Do you hate all vegetables? I ask because some assume "green" vegetables are the ones to eat, but they are normally the less tasteful. What about tomato? There are many ways you can add them to your diet, for example slice them in a sandwich. Or add to a salad. Or even eat them alone as in a fruit. Carrots are great for…

Foods that have huge amounts of salt: Salads (with dresssing), cheese, ham, canned soups and food, etc. It is not easy to be below 2300mg of sodium per day, but if you watch for those and other foods high in sodium, you should be fine. No need to buy special food low in sodium, or sodium substitutes, to be below 2300mg.…

Yes. What attracted me to make comments on this thread, was the premise of finding out a scientific basis for the Paleo diet. Same way as the author of this thread, I know there is plenty of anectdotal information, but what interests me are Scientific studies, or at least arguments based on scjence. Also, as expresed…

I agree with you, it would seem very difficult to tell from skeletal records if the human had diabetes, etc. On the other hand: I am no scientist, but I do know that bones reveal quite a bit, since they are a living tissue that is affected by diet and way of life. By the way, please note that the above words in my previous…

I did understand your point, but let me clarify based on your last statement: The "ideal diet" I am talking about, would be applicable for "normal" circumstances. It is very clear, that any animal or human, will resort to drastic changes of their diet, under starvation. So your examples of how starving animals change their…
-
Not really: Even for the examples you had proving your point, the variation of the diet for a particular species is not that great. Of course, you would need to "tweak" the diet for humans living under different extreme regions, but I would expect that for most of the humans living in "civilized" urban environemnts, the…

Yes, you have a good point. Diets not only change betweem species, but within a species based on geographical location, etc. So if we ever find the "ultimate diet" for the humans, it would need to be adapted per the specific circumstances of the humans. For example, eskimos probably need a diet very different than humans…
-
 I think that yes, there is out there to be found an "ultimate diet" for humans. Reason: if you look at the diet of different species of animals, they all have very specific, ideal diets that are optimal. And they don't deviate from that diet. It is automatic for them. We humans have distorted that diet, and now…

I think the one aspect everyone agrees here, is that Paleo men died in their 30's, and that they did not die that soon because of their diet. So... what can learn from their diet, that can be applied to modern humans that live well beyond 30 years? Not much at all ! So instead of looking at the Paleo or any other era, in…
-
Right, but you forgot to copy the rest of the Wikipedia quote: "and because the average lifespan was shorter than the age of common-onset of these conditions." In other words, they died well before any possible negative effects of their diet could develop ! Here is the complete paragraph: (from…

Division of labor: somebody had to take care of the babies ! But my main point was not that, of course. The big question for me, that needs to be answered, is: Why do we want to eat like the Paleo did? Anything that tells us that was a superior way, than what pre-Paleo (or post-Paleo) humans did?
-
LOL  What about an extension of this? What about the Paleo women vs men diet? Women were not generally hunters... so did they eat different than the Paleo men? :glasses: Seriously now: I think the discussion on Paleo starts off the wrong track, making the assumption it is actually good to eat like our ancestors…

As you can see from the very large number of responses, this is a very controversial subject. Here is a link to some clinical studies, meant for doctors, when treating obesity: http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/guidelines/obesity/ob_home.htm The complete study is there, plus some calculators. In particular, I recommend you to read:…

I started last November, and lost more than 40 pounds, just counting calories with MFP. Exercise, not really. Walk the dog for an hour, once a week. So you can lose a lot just following MFP. I am not starving at all, by the way  However: I do plan to exercise now that I am close to my target, as I want to look…

600 grams is within the expected day to day variation. Think of this: you may eat in a single day more than 600 grams of food. Keep taking your weigh, and keep with the program, and you should see a trend down in weight to continue
