  • I'm pretty confused about what the medical professionals actually think, as I was very overweight when I got pregnant (240lbs). At 12 weeks pregnant, I developed gallstones, which cause crippling attacks after eating. I'm now 28 weeks pregnant and have lost 30lbs, but doctors and midwife are all saying "a crash diet won't…

  • I should add, I'm not planning to give up breastfeeding any time soon, in spite of the middle of the night wake-ups. He only feeds 5 times between 6am and 9.30pm, so it's not too much of a hassle. And it's FREE (financially, anyway...)!
  • Hi Amber! Sadly (or luckily?) when I am asleep, I am TOTALLY asleep. I swear I would be highly likely to roll over and crush the little darling in his sleep... Also, we've trained him too well, and he won't sleep anywhere other than in his room in his own cot. I'm talking NOWHERE else - not the car, not the buggy, not my…
  • I have just changed my goal calories manually to incorporate an extra 500 cals. It's not ideal, because MFP tells you you'll gain weight, but if you can cope with that, it makes tracking simpler!
  • Hi seamonster! Thank you for your tips - we've been really careful about distinguishing day from night, right since birth, so that's not a problem. Apart from the 4 month sleep regression, all his night wakings are for feeds and he just has a half-hour feed and goes straight back to sleep. So we're lucky in that way, but…
  • Hiya - I have a 4.5 month old and I am also trying to find time and energy to exercise (all without really being able to leave the house!) - Add me as a friend if you like - would be good to share tips!
  • Also new to the group - I'm a first-time mum and exclusively breastfeeding isn't the miracle weight-loss tool some books would have you believe... Also, I'm so exhausted all the time that it's really hard to find the energy to do any planned exercise! I go to bed at night full of plans for the next day, but after being up…
  • I have a real issue with "nibbles" - I have a mental battle with myself every time and then once I start eating some of them, I eat ALL THE NIBBLES. So I've learned that I just have to NOT start. There's no argument anymore in my head. It's just 'nope'. Most of the time, the nibbles are a precursor to a meal, anyway, so I…
  • Bump for any other thoughts?
  • Yeah, that's kind of what I said. Because for me, eating breakfast makes me hungrier all day, and the later I leave it to eat something (normally post-gym around 10:30-11am), the more in control I feel of my day's calories, because I'm not so ravenous. I also feel like eating a breakfast I am neither hungry for nor…
  • Thanks MrsWells - it's good to hear from someone who's been in my shoes. I will do my best to take your advice onboard. And TrainElite guy - er... thanks. I actually already know exactly what it is I have to do - it's doing it that's the problem!
  • No idea! We both wanted our outfits secret from each other, but my dressmaker has gone along with him to pick stuff out, because he wants to make sure we at least match a little bit!
  • I guess we thought about how we would feel about things and what we'd be bothered by or otherwise. I suppose it's a lesson in not assuming other people are going to think or behave the same way you would!
  • Thanks everyone for your input. Now for some context and an update. I don't know whether this is a cultural difference between New Zealand and other countries, or just with my circle of friends, but it is not at all uncommon here to be invited to a wedding without your partner (especially if you're not married and if you…
  • This is exactly the same as my fiance. Loves trying all the new foods that I cook - gets right into it. He does his own lunches at work, so those are the times he eats fast food or whatever. I still make and eat yum food - just try to make it fit my macros. He's amazing. If I seem to be falling off the wagon for a time, he…
  • Go and start doing heavy lifting, if you're not already (Stronglifts 5x5 is a good programme). I was steadily losing weight for 12 months, and after 4 weeks of lifting, I finally had people noticing and remarking on how I looked. Everything tightens and firms and you feel AMAZING after a few weeks - strong and confident.…
  • Said by my Mum, after I lost about 9kgs: "Yes, it's great how you've got your pretty face back." :noway:
  • And I'm the week AFTER that - 13 April 2013! I'm aiming to lose 17lbs by then. It won't put me at my goal, but is hopefully achievable!
  • I like my popcorn burnt. I also like dipping my ice-cream into my popcorn at the movies. Can you tell that popcorn is my favourite food?
  • Oh, sorry - I should say, I eat back quite a few of my exercise calories - trying to maintain a deficit of around 300-500 cals.
  • bumpity bump - any thoughts appreciated!
  • Hey Sara I'm logging my food super-accurately (measure everything and mainly eat home food), and I use a bodybugg, so I know my TDEE every day. It's around 2000 on rest days and around 2800 on workout days. I've been eating at at daily budget of 1500 cals, although over this past weekend I've had some not-so-great days. I…
  • BMI is a bit of an outdated and mostly useless measurement. Top athletes (thinking particularly rugby players, for example) have BMIs placing them in the "obese" category. The only two factors it measures are height and weight. Neither are any indication of body fat.
  • *chortle* *snort*
  • Hmmm. Joined in December, only 6 posts. I'm suspicious.... particularly at the use of the word "obese" - you're clearly not obese by any measurements.
  • THIS ^^ Start a decent strength training programme. I've been doing Stronglifts 5x5 for a month. I've dropped NO weight at all in that time according to the scale, but suddenly I am being showered in compliments from all my RL folk.
  • @skrakalaka - the one in the black top from the back. Your back is AMAZING! So jealous!
  • @ Captainobvvio - the beard-growing one - you look so friendly and smily!
  • What a fox! I'm loving these before/afters with these guys who aren't in their 20s, but have transformed themselves into total sauce-buckets!!
  • I'm not sure what the cause is - I only get dizzy if I go CRAZY hard on the treadmill, but every time I do overhead presses on my lifting days, I get super light-headed and feel like passing out. Will be very interested to hear what others have to say about this!
