  • I am trying to add to the discussion on diabetes and can't find how or where to do so.
  • My registered dietitians from the local hospital who work at the diabetic clinic have given their approval for use, and they stay abreast of these things. Some people have a bad reaction to them, like an allergic reaction, and get headaches, as do both my daughters in law. But I have used Equal since the 70s on a regular…
  • Plain yogurt with fruit, low fat cheese and cottage cheese, beans, and peanut butter--I get the freshly ground type.
  • Eating higher protein, high fiber and including fruit helps me. But I am diabetic and include sweeteners as well. Still, I had been cheating with a candy bar in late afternoon. Now I have 3 meals a day plus a snack at bed time. And my food is not always eaten at one time if I stop and post in the middle of it. Spreading…
  • When you build up muscle you may gain slightly. Muscles weighs more than fat. Eventually it pays off by using more calories due to increased metabolism.
  • Eat high protein, high fiber to control appetite. I snack when I am in pain so I relate. Having fruit handy and pre measuring the servings in sandwich bags helps me limit myself. Dried apples are crunchy and dried apricots are chewy. Otherwise fresh fruit helps or pop corn with no butter. Some put grated cheese on it for…
  • You can change your goal amounts. I reduce carbs 5 and raise protein 5 to agree with my diabetic diet. You can do this in the goals area. It just has to come out to 100%.
  • Be sure and eat all the pulp to get your needed fiber
  • I can't get up to 1600. But the fastest way to add calories is to add fat. I use low fat foods so that is probably part of the problem. But I learned that my goals have been reset so I need to go lower to 1450-1500. I shrank 2 inches!
  • I am just starting, again, and must lose 100. Doctors orders. Yah, I have 2 pound goals. Count me in.
  • Do you move the furniture around when you vacuum? Changing sheets should count, carrying boxes of groceries, and all the bending and moving of laundry care.
  • gardening is considered one of the best exercises.
  • The best way to do this is plan ahead. I plan for each day, and try to eat small meals often to keep my blood sugar level. This is the best way for me to commit. Keeping low fat foods, like cheese, cottage cheese and yogurt helps me as well. I have boiled eggs handy and low salt vegetable juice. Low fat mayo and salad…
  • I have dried apricots and dried apples on hand to munch on. I measure my allotment first so I don't snack mindlessly. Fresh fruit is best, but the dried stuff doesn't go bad as fast and is always handy. Baked apples are a wonderful desert as well.
  • Congratulations for doing so well!. I have a lot to lose, too, so you are an inspiration to me. I returned 2 months ago. I became ill and regained 30 pounds within 6 weeks!. It was very dicouraging because I had worked hard and hept my goals at 1600 calories. So It seems to be going much slower this time. Thanks heavens…
  • I don't record measurements but I do record sizes. Sometimes when I am not dropping pounds I have gone down a size in my shirt or pants, whech can even be more rewarding than dropping pounds. Something that I wish I had started doing? In another life (diet) I tried to add a new food that I wasn't in the habit of eating,…
  • Yes, and that is the only way to do it. I eat dried apricots. Healthy, yes. But I could keep on munching if I don't count them and put them on a plate or in a baggie. I am not a chip craver but I really have to avoid chocolate fudge or cakes. In fact, that was why I started eating the dried apricots--to get my mind off…
  • Alcohol lowers your ability to resist drinking more and avoiding unhealthy foods. Skip that for water or diet pop, I biring my own drinks and occasionally some fruit. I would opt for chicken since hot dogs and hamburgers are dripping in fat (unless you bring your own low fat ones to slap on the grill.. Remove skin from…
  • Acorn Squash is great when cut in half length wise, seeds removed, and apple slices placed in the center with a little cinnimon. I cook it in the microwave till tender.
  • Fruit has fiber in it to slow down the absorption of the sugar. The portions are what you need to watch. 1 "school boy" delicious apple is one serving. One half a banana is one serving. I am going by the diabetic exchange lists. I try to aim for high fiber fresh or frozen fruit. Blackberries, Raspberries and Blueberries…
  • I used to have a can of V8 and a hard boiled egg ready to grab as I ran out the door.
  • I started using low fat peanut butter --1 tsp.-- on my toast. Better for you. You can get pureed peanuts (peanut butter) at health food stores and some grocery stores or use the brand that must be refrigerated to have no preservatives. I have poured off the oil of this one instead of mixing it in for even lower calories.…
  • The place to eat out is Olive Garden. Their Ravioli de Portabello is outstanding. The lunch portion is on target for calories.:flowerforyou:
  • The best ways are the really natural ways many have mentioned. Water, protien and high fiber foods (not additives.). A small amount of high fiber Fruit helps me. Fat is necessary in moderation since it is double the calories per gram than other foods. Spreading small meals throughout the day keeps blood sugars level also.…
  • I have a cheap one that I have used for years, one that I bought at a second had store that goes up to 3 pounds as well as a new digital one. I use all of them a lot. The big ones help for recipes that are for 8 or 12 people. I cook large amounts of a recipe so I can freeze smaller portions that fit into my diet. It would…
  • Olives are a good, healthy choice. I get peanut butter made from roasted peanuts and the grocery or health food store. They don't add oil. Peanut oil is also tasty when used with stir fried veggies as well as sesame oil. Add seeds and oils to salads. Just measure and count everything.:flowerforyou:
  • Eat one piece of whole fruit when you have a sugar craving. It won't set off the highs and lows that sugar creates. I am diabetic and also have a sweet tooth. Whole fruit such as 5 dried apricots, and orange or a small apple will stop it. Having a little protein also helps to even out our blood sugar so we don't have the…
  • Remember that muscle weighs more that fat and some people gain weight as they gain muscle. Personal trainers often recommend more lean protein for those who are weight/strength training. You will lose more muscle than fat if your calorie goal is too lo low. I cannot lose weight at 1200 calories but increased it to 1600…
  • You really must count calories. I have friends who tried this and couln't figure out why they weren't losing weight. There is not real short cut to recording everything you eat and counting calories. The current Weight watchers proigram simplifies this but it never worked for me. I tried the "fat and fiber" program on…
