  • A few reasons, and depending the day any of them could be the main reason but I think it is the combination of them all: 1. The fun of competitive sport. 2. Training in the gym improves sport performance if done correctly. 3. The numerous health benefits. 4. Improves appearance. 5. It is a good way to kill time and meet…
  • This has happened to me in the past, after a few days I usually drop 50-75% of the weight gained, it would be very tough to put on 4lb of tissue (fat/muscle etc.) in a couple of days. If you still logged the days you will know roughly how many calories you over ate so you could probably estimate how much weight you…
  • Must be one hell of a dog, haha. I agree though, I will sometimes group exercises as in the end it is simply the total calories burnt I am interested in.
  • This is a common occurrence when you stretch after weight training, the stretching causes your muscles to move which frees up space for fat to be stored. Next time make sure your muscles feel really tight so the fat can't get in.
  • People have already pointed out that you will get contrasting opinions/reports of the effects of fasted cardio on fat loss, personally I prefer to eat before as It allows me to push my muscles further rather than just emptying my energy supplies. However, and unfortunately I don't have a link to a journal, I believe what…
  • Keep up the good work!
  • A bath in milk would certainly be pretty interesting haha. I have found starflower oil and fish oils improve my skin (consuming not applying) despite my very high protein diet.
  • Had a quick look at your diary for the past few days, looks like you spread your food out and have a good split of food types, if it is indeed a build of waste products such as lactic acid etc. one way to help this is when you shower alternate between hot and cold for say 30 seconds hot 30 seconds cold five times. This…
  • What is your calorie intake on the days you train? And when was the last time you ate before you trained? I have experienced something similar, for me it was dodgy blood sugar levels as I was too hungry, perhaps try having something like a small flapjack around half an hour before your exercise, it worked/works for me.
  • As others have pointed out, yes a calorie is a calorie in mathematical terms, but the source of the calories causes a different biochemical response which can affect appetite, mood etc. differently. This is often pointed out in studies where the participants consume regular soft drinks and others consume the sugar free…
  • All good points, with regards to the low-carb thing, it is also useful to have small protein doses throughout the day so the body doesn't break itself down as much for energy, since as mentioned fat is considered 'for emergencies only' by the body.
  • You could eat 6 meat free burgers, mine are about 92 calories each, about 11 grams of protein and about 3 grams of carbs and fat in each. 100g of natural peanut butter would also do the trick!
  • Although heart rate monitors are usually quite accurate, the only true way to calculate calories burnt is to measure the amount of oxygen you use, from what I recall it equates to roughly 5 calories per litre of oxygen. Having said that, whilst maintaining I was able to use MFP to log exercise and food leading to a NET of…
  • I try to count all major items, I usually under estimate my exercise by a few minutes which I think should account for vitamins and spices. I have tracked water a few times, but I drink so much it becomes quite an effort to increase it one by one. Sometimes useful to track coffee to see roughly how much caffeine I'm having.
  • Perhaps you could try eating more often if you struggle to eat a lot in one sitting? Also perhaps you could try eating more eggs such as in a cheese omelette or scrambled egg, good for any meal and can be high calories as well as nutrients if you use 3+ eggs and real butter and cheese.
  • I have found that white kidney bean extract is quite effective in reducing carb calories particularly if you enjoy the occasional pancake, flapjack or pizza. Been taking CLA for the past few weeks and it seems to be helping the weight shift quicker than normal also, have tried quite a few other 'thermogenics' etc but most…
  • The number that MFP gives you is your BMR multiplied by an 'activity factor' (see below) based on how active you said you were in your profile, this will give you a calorie value to aim for without having to input calories burnt for exericse. Personally I find that if you say you are sedentary and log your food and…
