  • I started last week! Did my fourth workout today :)
  • You could get a road bike and a stationary trainer, so you can use it in the winter. But I love biking, and loved biking with my dad when I was a kid :)

  • I make breakfast smoothies with fruit and unflavoured protein powder. I use frozen fruit, half a banana, some frozen spinach nuggets, powder and water. I measure out all the fruit and spinach into containers on Sunday night and keep them in the freezer, then I just dump in to the blender, add the powder and water, and…
  • I just started NROLFW too! I want to get STROONNNNGGG!!! @ azwildcats7 - I'm doing it at home, the book has suggestions for exercised to replace the cable machine exercises. I already had a swiss ball, I bought a parir of dumbells that use weight plates and a barbell. I'm using an old solid coffee table for step-ups and in…
  • Check out You Are Your Own Gym (book, app, website). It's all bodyweight strength training. The only equipment used is stuff found around the house. There are also lots of great youtube channels with yoga and cardio exercises. Bodyrock.tv is INTENSE, but some of their workouts don't use equipment.
  • Have you thought about sitting down and making a 5-yr plan? Fulfilling your dreams can cost money, it's a matter of picking an choosing what's important to make them happen. Two years ago my husband and I both felt trapped in jobs we hated. When an opportunity came up for me to move cross-country, we sat down and looked at…
  • You can prepare scrambled eggs in a microwave... whisk the egg solo in a ramekin or small bowl and microwave for 30-60 s - trial and error may be required for cooking time. I make crustless quiche that reheats quite nicely, and have made mini muffin tin quiches that I freeze and reheat and also turn out quite nice.
  • Check out Chocolate Covered Katie... not all of her recipes are low-cal, but many are.
  • Yeah I was going to say, it should be too difficult to *kitten* 10lbs of other stuff to your body at the starting point... refer to Kenny vs Spenny for more ideas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtL5KDIPFgA ((ETA)) you could always add the weight back on to yourself for the final weigh-in, to keep everything balanced.
  • Yeah I used to think my sister-in-law was blessed with some crazy never-gain-weight gene, because she uses so much butter in EVERYTHING she makes. When I started watching what I eat I noticed how she eats compared to me... nowhere NEAR the quanities I used to. It was an eye opener for me. My sister's best friend can knock…
  • This happens to me ALL.THE.TIME. I carry all of my weight in my belly and boobs. The worst is when I'm on the subway and little old ladies offer me their seat!! They're so insistent, but I don't want to announce to the whole train "no, I'm not pregnant!" Most of the time when I tell the person "no, I'm not pregnant"…
  • Northern Alberta :) From Ottawa... recently left Montreal (and oh how I miss it!)

  • The book has a lot of details in it about how the program was developed, and the purpuse of each "stage" in his workout plans, but more of it is loads and loads of pictures of how to adjust body weight exercises to make them more or less challenging, depending on your ability and goals. He has five or six 10-week long…
  • I'm doing this now and really enjoy it! I can do many of the workouts while watching TV, or even at work (when things are quiet) It's straight up strength training, not a cardio-strength mix. Some of the workouts are on his website and YouTube channel, and his app is excellent.
  • I bought my MIL Leslie Sansone DVDs and she loves them - she's in her 60s and its very icy where she lives, so she's not interested in walking in the winter. Where I live we get snow, and very little ice. It started snowing here mid-Oct, and is already -20C. I dress in layers and choose walking paths with wind protection…
  • Did you make a large batch of something? I sometimes make a batch of hummus, and need to figure out how many tbsp are in the batch. I do this by weighing the whole recipe as I put it in to the storage container, and assume 1 tbsp = 15g. If I'm making soup or pasta sauce, I use the size of the pot to help, ie I know my…
  • http://flintland.blogspot.ca/2012/05/hey-fat-girl.html :) I love to run. I know I"m slow, that my pace really more of a plod that a run, and sometimes I worry that people are judging me. But at the end of the day, I'd rather be the fat girl out running than the fat girl on the couch.
  • Every winter I vow to run outside, and every year something side tracks me. This year I am determined that I WILL DO IT! It started snowing mid October here (sigh). I'm terrified of slipping on ice and seriously hurting myself far from home, so I run on trails where it's more snow/less ice. I have yaktrax, tho I find I…
  • My weight yo-yo'd through university... I'd make a change, lose some weight, make another change, gain weight back. I wasn't consistent. Two years ago I lost 35 lbs and kept it off. I focused on being aware of my habits, so even when I'm not actively tracking or being careful about what I eat, I don't go overboard the way…
  • Second Jeans - specifically Yoga Jeans... LOOOOOVE THEM!
  • I'm ~15lbs from goal... and I've been there for over a year! I'm frustrated because when I go way off track and eat just for months, I stay the same. When I'm careful and track and work out, I stay the same. I decided to switch focus and work on building strength for the next few months, make that a routine, and then zero…
  • I have a soda stream, I love carbonated water way more than regular water! I like lemon and lime juice, or sometimes grapefruit. Mint and lime is really nice (like a mojito!). My husband bought a bunch of flavour extracts - orange, mint, etc - and palys around with those in the soda water.
  • One of my dogs has some husky in her, does that count? I love her to bits, she loves the cold and forces me to get outside when its -40C.
  • Roasting with balsamic vinegar. Yummmmm! Or grilled on the bbq! And a little bit of butter or oil can go a long way when learning to love veggies. Don't drown them, just a bit. I want to commend you for committing to trying new things! And remember that how its prepared is just as important in liking something as the thing…
  • That book inspired me to try gardening again! My husband is better at it than I am, but we're still not that great. I DREAM of raising my own chickens for eggs and a goat for milk and even RABBITS like the above poster has. Some day :) For now we have a 10'x10' overgrown veggie patch and a scrawny apple tree :) And your…
  • Love this! I love Michael Pollan and I love local eating and gardening. Another fun read for you if you like this stuff is Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver - I LOVED THIS BOOK. It's a genuinely entertaining read in addition to being informative. There's a farmer who comes in to town every other weekend to…
  • I have a bull mastiff/lab cross, almost 1yo. She's crazy! We also have an older lab/shepherd/husky cross and now that the puppy has learned how to play with the older dog (they wrestle!) it's a lot better. Before she started wrestling we would take her to play fetch before going to work to try and tire her out. For the…
  • I bought mine on St Hubert, which is a crazy one stop wedding shopping street in Montreal. I spent a little over $1000, then $100 on alterations. I bought my MOH dress for my sister's wedding off lightinthebox and was really impressed with the quality.
  • I used to work out before work/school (I hope to start again when I'm no longer starting work at 6am) The only thing that worked was having my work out gear right there next to the bed. I didn't wake up, I just rolled out of bed, put it on, and left. Running is great for that because you just walk out the front door and…
