  • Nice! It all has to start with a change in the brain - you got it!
  • Air pressure in the bathroom affecting scale accuracy? Air will be hotter and more humid after a bath, making the air denser. Me? Clutching at straws & excuses, no never ;-)
  • I read a thread on this subject recently and you are correct, for accurate calorie burns you need to take the calories burned during a workout and subtract the BMR calories you would burn for the duration of the workout e.g 1hr football=1000cal 1hr BMR=200 cal - entry 800 cal. Alternatively, you track the calories on the…
  • Thanks for the encouragement, I know it's going to be tough, the C25K had sections in it that felt like they were going to break me, this will be no different. I just got back in after W2D2 and had the weird experience where I struggled at the start of segment 1 , struggled a bit in segment 2 but blasted through the last…
  • Congrats ! B210K is going well, I'm in middle of week 2 now and can't picture myself being able to do 10k...Yet! I am keeping a blog on MFP, journaling my experiences going from 5 to 10k, please feel free to have a read at it.
  • Well thank you gersoco - I don't know if I've beaten my time at all as I have started the B210K programe so I have to keep my pace slow to make sure I complete the intervals. twoboys2012 - well done on doing the most difficult part of the programe - getting started! Look forward to reading your graduation message in a few…
  • First up a disclaimer - I'm not medically trained, am not a fitness instructor and am only passing on advice I have read elsewhere - feel free to do with it what you like :). I think it's important to separate out muscle soreness and pain - pain indicated something is wrong and should be allowed to heal before exercising…
  • Cannot say one way or another if this is any good as I haven't tried it.. http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_4/99.shtml
  • Ladies & Gents...did you just hear a gauntlet land on the floor...I think I did...yes, there it is there ...with a note, wossat say? You are hereby challenged to run a 9 minute mile 5k by the end of April !!! Dude - you just got challenged by your own gauntlet !!
  • Myself - B210K but as you've said that's maybe not for you & if you want to keep up the running then there are programmes that continue the interval training but with a view to increasing your speed - does the idea of setting a benchmark time for the 5k and then aiming to take, say, 5 minutes off of that time appeal?
  • bump - I'm interested in this question too
  • You can do it & you will...it does not matter at what speed you go at it, slow it down a touch to ensure you do the time. Make sure you are well rested, fed & watered well before you start, lose yourself in some music as you go and have confidence in yourself. Think back to the early weeks - 1 or 2, did you think you would…
  • Welcome to the group! I'm still up in the 220+ pound weight range and have used the C25K programme and can now comfortably jog 5k, can you do it? I'm sure you can as long as you take a sensible approach - follow the programme but if you find it too much of a struggle some weeks then repeat a few days, give your body time…
  • I go with clips, you get much more energy transfer through the pedals into forward motion. I also have them setup so they are quite loose so it's easy to get in and out of them incase I'm having a wobble. Once you clip in and out confidently you will soon learn to anticipate traffic junctions and lights. I use these…

  • +1 for the HRM, although I used endomondo for the first time recently and it's calorie estimate was within 50 cals of the HRM, pretty good!
  • Spring has sprung, bike has been cleaned & tuned in readiness and today the planets aligned so I got my first ride in of the year. Just a short *kitten*-hardening blast to blow the cobwebs away & it was brilliant. Headed to my local park but it was too busy to get a steady cadence so I braved the roads and the multiple…
  • Posted on the news feed but it bears repeating in the public groups - EPIC !!!!!
  • I'm a new graduate, feel free to add me.
  • I got the C25K Free from Zen Labs. Worked fine for me but they are updating it regularly in line with customer feedback.
  • I did the first half on a treadmill, scared to run outside incase the ghostbusters tried to zap me with their streams (gratuitous 80's movie reference) but when I worked up the nerve to go outside I loved it, fresh air, the scenery changes and I didn't overheat. Perfect.
  • Nice! Check out the Couch to 5k group in this here community, there's loads of good advice, experiences & stories. For me - it makes a huge difference to my body shape, my overall fitness & my mental health. Down side - if you catch the bug you will start looking at longer distances and bigger events. I've committed to a…
  • Take them for a swim? Kids love the pool & you get a swim in too- win win!
  • In my experience I weigh less in the mornings than in the evenings, I also advocate weighing in once a week max. Your weight will fluctuate a lot from day to day depending on food & fluid intake, weighing in once a week has a better chance of flattening these peaks & troughs. Also - i think it's well worth measuring…
  • Woohoo ! Well done!

  • Run Keeper is pretty cool, tracks for running, walking, cycling etc. GPS input or manual input of you are inside.
  • To the graduation......AND BEYOND !!!! Well done!
  • Congrats new graduates, well done !!!
  • Think what most folks do is to repeat a week here and again, once you feel you've hit a tough patch. HTH Remember the program is a guideline, the pace you determine dependant on your fitness level & what your body is telling you.
