  • Yes, agree on food scale. When new to tracking cals, you might be surprised about what estimates vs. actual looks like. :) It can be a real eye-opener !
  • Use this app! Get your calorie goal set and stay at it. Log everything you eat and take notes about what works best for you and how you feel. don't give up anything. Eat when you're hungry. Do some kind of exercise that you enjoy, even if it's walking outside, it's free and easy to do. Don't get hung up on fads, or…
  • Yes. I believe in it. Someone mentioned Hunger Scale- really stopping to think about how hungry (you actually) are. I read and recommend the book 'thin side out-- have your cake and skinny pants too". Hunger scale is detailed too. It helped me with my mindless eating thousands of calories, and I developed a better way of…
  • What's LCHF?
  • Planning. "failing to plan = planning to fail" Weighing and measuring. Tedious but necessary. Portions. Buy a big package of XYZ and put 1 serving into a small zipoc bag. Works good for meat portions ( then freeze them) , snacks, really anything
  • It varies in the MFP search. I try to find where it says specifically raw or cooked to feel safe. Meats weight more raw, so if it feels low, you could estimate by adding an oz worth of cals. I'd rather find nutritional info that says exactly raw or cooked.
  • i mostly drink plain water, sometimes with lemon/ lime wedge. but sometimes it's nice to have something different. when i need something different, i drink sparkling flavored water 0 cals, diet iced tea 0 cals, or brewed fruit tea or chai, iced 0 cals, or sometimes the drops of crystal light or mio in water 0 cals
  • I like lime, cucumber slices and some fresh basil.
  • Yes. i agree. ^ I've read a few books about Intuitive Eating ,, For example the one i thought was best -- "How to Have Your Cake and Your Skinny Jeans Too: Stop Binge Eating, Overeating and Dieting For Good Get the Naturally Thin Body You Crave From the Inside Out" It is very interesting. Eating when you are not hungry ? I…
  • someone in the beginning of this thread brought up Intuitive eating ---- eat when hungry .... don't eat when not. Not an easy task. But in response to OP's post, that's what came to my mind when the OP said eating "right" I don't think you'd have to count every single calorie if you followed this , however... that suggests…
  • This is the biggest lesson, I've learned.. or should I say, am still learning. I realized i was eating a huge % of my food when I was not genuinely hungry. ( hello MFP and "dieting" ) I've been learning, read a few books about hunger-directed eating.,,, i try to check in , before. during. after. every few bites. really…
  • Yes ^ I didn't even know WW has an online program ? SO you have to pay and you don't go to the meetings or have to physically weigh in with someone ? that seems out-dated to me. If so, my vote would go for MFP.
  • I did WW back about 15 years ago. Back then I was given a range of 24-26 points a day. I wrote down every single thing I ate, figured out the points, etc. Lost weight every week. I will admit, the meetings did help me, because I felt proud seeing the weight go down and felt accountable. HOWEVER, my discovery- 1 "point" on…
  • Hi Guys! Haven't been checking in as much, I'm sorry... For the last 2 weeks, I've had 2 drinking days which is great for me! About 1200 calories, estimated. In my head, I'm trying to just give up drinking altogether, but then around day 10 i seem to want to give in. However, 2 in 14 days is still great progress for me. I…
  • As long as your'e not a bore just because you aren't drinking....giving off the "i really wish I could drink but I can't" vibe, then i think people care less than you think whether you are drinking or not. and i agree with, don't hide it or make excuses, " i don't drink' should be enough.
  • not really. most overweight DO people acknowledge that they eat a large % of their food when they are not actually hungry. actually checking in and determining if you are in fact hungry, (i.e. hunger directed eating) is a great way to regulate calories and satisfaction. if you are hungry, you eat what you need to feel…
  • Agree. Trust your body and your hunger. Your body knows what it needs (and doesn't need).
  • like others have said, this is behavioral. it's non-hunger eating you are not alone, i've struggled with this as well i do not believe the answer to this is not having the item in the house, or eating something else/ substitutes. for me, i am trying to combat the behavior, the relationship with the food. others have…
  • Claresweet- if you are talking about the book i recommended..' How to Have Cake / Skinny Jeans: ThinSide Out.' i was only able to find it on the kindle too. I do not have a kindle, so i bought it and read it on the Kindle App, on my Iphone you can also open it up to read on your computer. but no, haven't found it in…
  • buying fruit instead of cake might help you in the short run. but in the long term, you have realized there is a problem and you have to find a solution, not a band-aid. I've been there, so many of us have been there. there has to be a change in the relationship with food. everyone is different. what works for one might…
  • Yes. Agree. ^ as to comparing food binge eating with drugs (alcohol included) --- AA, OA, NA., taking away the concept of moderation is what makes that person "never able to step foot near XYZ" we can't live our lives that way. Bottom line, I can't rely on 100% willpower 24/ 7 - to give up over-eating., drugs, etc.…
  • Agree with above posts, although I understand where you were going with the OP, trying to make wise food choices for yourself is not a bad thing. But, putting labels on food, "good" vs "bad" is a dangerous and slippery slope. In life, no food should be in either category, food just is... eat what your body needs…
  • I 100% agree with assessing, WHY am i eating ? Hungry? Angry ? Lonely? Tired ? , etc. It makes you see... that such a huge % of eating is when you are not even hungry. that , in itself, is eye-opening. However, "good" vs. "bad" foods, and being constantly on a restrictive "diet" are major root causes of binge eating. In a…
  • You are not alone. I had/have such similar issues and I can very much relate. Just a suggestion, I have recently read this book: "How to Have Your Cake and Your Skinny Jeans Too: Stop Binge Eating, Overeating and Dieting For Good Get the Naturally Thin Body You Crave From the Inside Out (Binge Eating Solution Book 1) " By…
  • it can be said that restricting / forbidding/ calling a food "good" or bad" / deprivation... is the root cause of binges in the first place. if you want, check out the book i suggested above ^ "Thin Side Out: How to Have your cake and your Skinny Jeans Too: Stop Binge Eating, Overeating and Dieting for Good"- By Josie…
  • i didn't read every single reply. If it hasn't been suggested already.. I have recently read the book, "Thin Side Out: How to Have your cake and your Skinny Jeans Too: Stop Binge Eating, Overeating and Dieting for Good"- By Josie Spinardi. It is about hunger directed eating: Eat When hungry, DON'T EAT when not. Don't go…
  • that is "diet" thinking that food is either "good" or "bad" No food is bad! Calories!
