  • Yeah, I use it - I think it's great! I need to use an external bluetooth GPS (because the phone GPS is really terrible), and I broke the audio jack on my phone (a little over-exuberant with the treadmill one day!), so I can't hear the pep talks, but I really do like the program & website. I tried to use bluetooth headsets,…
  • I've heard people have success with using hydrogen peroxide (3% pharmacy-grade - in a spray bottle), sprayed in the high-sweat areas (pits/crotches) help with the polyester garment stinkies. I'm not sure if you end-up bleaching-out colors or not in time, but I've read good things about this solution - I'm going to try it…
  • Yes - Shirataki noodles. These are Japanese noodles, usually made from a yam. There's prep to make them (you need to "pan fry" them or else they have a weird texture). Zero Calories!
  • I'm personally partial to eating that all-natural uranium. Yum.
  • Today's workout: My HRM/Endomondo told me that I burned 1066kCal, & MFP came-in at 959kCal... today it was fairly close. When you take-into account all of the variables (at least when running), such as pace, intensity, geography (hills) and wind - the actual calories really vary from day to day, even on the same course. I…
  • Yep - I've had motivation problems also. I've discovered that once I get out there and start my workout, I start feeling really good about it and myself. Try your best to start a workout, the rest will likely follow.
  • Subway Tuscan chicken melt on Italian Herb & Cheese... with chipolte sauce I'm Soooo bad!! Guess I'll be running a little bit farther today!
  • I'm feeling your pain, I started runing in Feb, and we had a really mild winter also... I also had access to a track that I don't have access to anymore. I've been looking-into YakTraks ( https://www.yaktrax.com/ ) as a possibility. I'm also worried about what to wear!
  • Well, you definitely have self-image issues - in your profile picture you look very lean to me, no fat that I can see. I'd be wary about free advice offered on the forums (hey, mine included), while everyone is well-intentioned, we are in-large amateurs, and it sounds to me like you could use personalized assurances.…
  • Oh Yeah! This is a BIG problem for me, especially lately. I've tried to compensate by running every day - but I didn't run today, &so I'm almost 300 cal. over for the day. I'm going to bed right after posting this - very early for me... so that I won't eat any more!! Good night.
  • Replace obese with smoker and then you need to deal with 2nd. hand smoke, which I find offensive... this is truly a BAD analogy. I personally believe that our weight and overall body shape is in a very real sense genetically predetermined, and to change it in-order to be socially acceptable takes a real, and for some…
  • First talk to your hubby about your problem/solutions, it's important to make sure you are both coming from the same place, a united front. It sounds like you're a bit unsure of your role in his sons life, as stepparent - this is an opportunity to get your role defined. I would think that honesty with son would be best -…
  • <<<<<<<< of-course, there ARE other options :-)
  • Methinks our well-intentioned yet miss-informed contributor is talking about soft drinks that are loaded with sodium (and caffeine) perhaps? I really like diet Dr. Pepper, I LOVE diet Cherry Dr. Pepper!! Polar brand diet Orange Dry is the best, also.
  • If you have a smartphone, & use it as an mp3 player during your workouts, you may want to consider a Zephyr HxM, or other Bluetooth HRM, I'm happy with mine.
  • Wonderful story - thank you for sharing!!!
  • Agreed! Well, actually - I use MFPs exercise calories estimator, but I also keep-track of what my HRM is doing (well, Endomondo does). The HRM usually comes-in significantly higher on calories burned, but I figure that I'm on a 1700 cal/day budget (in-other-words - I'm certainly not starving!), if I keep it close to that…
  • I'm a late-night snacker also, like yourself. You know your weakness, you're 90% of the way to your solution! I've noticed that if it's getting late & I have the urge, I have a drink of something with zero calories, then go to bed. Again, I love late nights, but I love my weight-loss progress more. Not a perfect solution…
  • HEY... I'm on pretty-much the dame diet plan - except that when I'm hungry, I replace those shakes with something like pumpkin seeds, Greek yogurt or fruit... you know, food? Ask yourself if it's the shake, or your calorie deficit that's allowed you to lose the excess tonnage. I'm sure that with concentration, exercise and…
  • WOW - congratulations, that's a great time!! I now understand your feelings, I ran my very first 10K today myself. Spur-of-the-moment, it was such a great, comfortable run that I kept on running. I came in @ 58:26... and I can't stop grinning, either. I was pretty tired towards the end, but... what a great feeling!!!! I'll…
  • I did my very first 10K today... it wasn't bad at-all! I've been doing a 10 min walking-warmup, then 5K run, then 10 min cooldown for several months now, today was a nice cool, cloudy day, so I just kept running. I did know how far to run in-order to complete 10K on my circuit (I've been looking at the route for a long…
  • Have you considered resistance bands? I have a set of BodyLastics bands that I've been very happy with, the added bonus being that they weight (a whole lot) less, and are portable. Just a thought.
  • Yeah, those Waffles House waffles & Chick-Fil-A meals really rack-up the calories, there's no getting-around that! Here's hoping that you can find alternatives to those rather expensive (calorie-wise) breakfast choices. I was a Dunkin' Donuts junkie, myself - I finally forced myself to "just drive-by" on my way to work...…
  • Does your college have a health & fitness center? I work at a (NY) State University college, and like most SUNY campuses, we have a really great fitness center, and it's dirt cheap for students (pretty decent for faculty/staff, also) to enroll. It costs students $70./semester - that's almost 4 months! Our center has Cybex…
  • This may be a stupid question... but here it goes: Do any of these watches actually work as a watch?
  • Yep - I agree, the cooler weather is just great to run in... I started running last winter, but ran pretty-much indoors, which was bad on the hips (all of those left turns!). I ran an extra 3Km yesterday, just because I didn't want to stop! I confess that I'm not a fan of hot weather running.
  • Yep - I agree... This! When you're ready to get serious about your health, then you'll be able to do this gladly. Personally, I don't even look at it as "dieting" anymore, just monitoring what I put into my body, and running for fun.
  • I use these also, they have that little plastic thingy that keeps the earpiece in-place... they sound great, but they're not as loud as I like (I need to crank the mp3 player to the max.).
  • Thanks for all of the replies, folks - this is helpful. I've decided that the problems that I've been having with satellite telemetry are related to my phone's GPS - it STINKS!! I tried all of of the "GPS helper apps" that I could find, without joy. Lately I've been using an external bluetooth GPS receiver that I've had…
