I used a TDEE calculator. I am short so my TDEE is anywhere between 1980-2100 depending on what calculator I used. I used a goal of 2000 calories and did not specifically eat back my exercise...EXCEPT on LR days in which I ate back half of my exercise calories to make sure my NET was at least 900-1200. I was shooting for…

Not getting divorced. That sounds snarky but we just did not quit when it would have been really easy to the last few years. We have made it through the other side of a long journey but always said that we were married and that divorce wasn't really an option, even though we knew it was and even though we both wanted to at…

These runs are memorable and make me love running more because when the next run is even just ok you appreciate it more AND you learn that you can be fierce and handle a tough run like a bad *kitten*

If at all possible have a little of what you are craving but in a very controlled way. I really like ice cream so in order to over indulge I would get a kids sized serving when out with the kids. Now I hardly crave it and have gone mostly vegan so have found other ways that satisfy my cravings. Popsicles can do the trick…

incredible and your selfie was perfect to show your progress

If this is a technique that could stop a binge then maybe it would be good. I have had days where I have my food all planned out and am all good on calories etc for the day but would love to eat three more pieces of pizza...not because I am hungry perse but because I want the taste. I don't know if this would work for a…

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Lets be honest...boys can do it without medical intervention

I take kids vitamins for this reason...I could never stomach prenatals either. So flinstones with iron are my go to

95% of the gym rants have to do with borish behavior that would be a rant done anywhere. We could do a workplace rant and people would have similar rants...ie not replacing the toilet paper rolls ...my biggest one is like not racking weights...or wiping your nose while typing could be like not wiping down the equipment. I…

I know I agree and I have felt the exact same things

drinking more water helps though when you also eat a lot of food because then you get to poop too.

Let me say...when I read the article I did not read it as Runner's World calling sitting an addiction or that it is as bad as smoking. I read it as questioning the new social out cry that sitting is the worst thing you can do for your health as if it were as bad as smoking. It seems a little tongue in cheek to me.

I read it. I was thankful that I have a job in which I am walking around all day. I teach and cannot figure out how to sit and teach. The article did remind me though to get off my butt on days that I am not on work. I don't ask my kids to grab something for me as much as the extra "getting a few steps in". The article…

I love the response "What are you trying to accomplish by saying those things to me?" It puts the person's actions right back on them. I wouldn't tell that person that they hurt you but I would address their behavior...ie "I really find it sad that you think it is ok to say hurtful things to me" or "wow, there is a severe…

I am not a cycling expert but to me it sounds like a run/walk interval philosophy which is widely accepted and suggested to those who are get starting. Go for it.

bet they aren't even paying you any mind. I get a look on my face from exertion. I get a look on my face because I might be wondering if that person across the gym is my neighbor but I can't see very far. I get a look on my face when I am working hard and I am trying to keep my mind from getting bored so i count red shirts…

I often use the pool at the gym to swim laps. Most of my complaints come from the pool. *Old dudes that do not speak English, thus cannot be communicated with, who wear their old man boxer shorts in the hot tub and then after sitting for a while they go into the pool to cool off. Well those loosey goosey boxers ride up all…

there is protein in fruits and vegetables, not all fruits and veggies are high in protein but it is possible to get protein from plant sources. Also, carbs are not inherently bad. A body needs fats, carbs and proteins. http://www.livestrong.com/article/394772-protein-rich-fruits-vegetables/

Not full vegan. I have been a non meat eater for 16 years but not in a strict sense meaning I would eat food prepared with meat, ie pot pie and I just don't eat the chicken pieces. I have recently been told to forgo wheat and dairy...although I was told that I could have goat's cheese and unpasteurized milk. Since then I…

I would love to have enough on top to need grown up clothes...lol

I am 5'1" on a tall day. My 12 year old daughter is taller than me and she can still buy some kids sizes. When it comes to black sweat pants, workout capris etc or lap swimming swim wear I often go to the kids section as the clothes are much cheaper for essentially the same product. I love tank tops from the kids section…

People can take any word and say it in a derogatory way. I have had people say "oh you run marathons" in a tone like "oh you bludgeon small animals for recreation" i have had people say "oh you run marathons" like "you must really train a lot and work hard...good for you" I like how some people say skinny and I hate how…

^^^^ nicely said. I struggle with any day in which I do not feel like I actively chose or pre-planned to be over. I feel as if I binged if I ate in what feels to me to be an uncontrolled way. Sometimes I need someone to gently remind me that it is ok and that it wasn't really a binge. I appreciate how you responded and…

^^^^ this....if you say...oh my I am just getting over diarrhea and I brought food that won't upset my tummy people will back away quickly...diarrhea is the one word that essentially says "MYOB"

I tend to keep my perspective on food and dieting private in most situations and I still get comments when I munch on carrots instead of chips. I still get comments when I eat one cookie instead of ten. My response is usually " I don't eat meat and I absolutely love these carrots, the crunch is awesome" or " man, these are…

All of this. But, it is possible for the kid to have a 4:40 pace. If he does he is likely a serious runner. The parents might be seeing that their boy has college potential etc. Perhaps when the boy spends time with you his focus on running is less and that concerns the parents that college scholarships etc might be in…

A benefit I can see of calling obesity a disease would be that medical professionals would begin learning about nutrition and realistic weight reduction methods. We always talk about how under educated the typical medical professional is about nutrition so maybe calling this a disease will lead to them being properly…

I don't know the answers for you here but it is possible to lose and marathon. Everything looks about right but when the thyroid is involved you add an element that most people just won't have a good answer too, at least not me. Hopefully someone with the same thyroid issues can respond with encouragement.
