I'll use one…

Welcome oldfieldm and Kupe!! I'm going to add you both! Kupe, I have an Australian buddy who has just embarked on an adventure to ride his bicycle from Tokyo back to Melbourne, of course there will be some boats involved. Anyone else that is interested Tim's Blog about the journey is here....…

Welcome Brad and Chuck! Brad, I'm in a similar boat to you, but we became empty nesters just at the end of March, sure is quite around the house now!

Depends on a lot of things, what kind of bike are you riding? A skinny tyre road bike with drop bars will go a lot faster than a fat knobby tyred fully suspended MTB. The other day I did a 100Km ride, all still within the confines of Tokyo :grumble: with lots of stop lights, and I managed a rolling avg of 22.4 Km/h which…

I recently started C25K again, and at week 7 I've quit, the reason why is I just ran the full 5Km on day on the treadmill, so I did it, the biggest block for me was the one between my ears  I've now taken it off the treadmill and outside, I figured out a course near my house that is safe to run (wide sidewalks) and…

Fantastic! Keep it up! :drinker: You are so smart to get on this while you are still young (you look fairly young in the pics, especially the AFTER pics!) I'm going to be 48 this year, and let me tell you, it is a LOT harder to do this now then it was when I was in my 20's :grumble: Keep up the great work, and live your…

Welcome Mike, I think many of us have a similar story, was an avid cyclist as a younger person, got off the bike, but have rediscovered the bike and are loving it  Again, welcome!

I hope both the tree and the bike are OK

No worries, the system here is a bit special  for example if you use IMG instead of img it does not work either. Glad I could help, someone helped me figure it out the first time too, so just paying if forward. Cheers!

Bump! I'm in the middle of redoing Week 6 right now, I did it, but my speed was only 5.5 mph, I want 6mph so I can run the 5k in 30 min, so I'm redoing week 6. Today I did day 1 and running at 6mph, on the treadmill, and walking at 3.5 mph was really hard work, but I did it! I'll get back later and read all the great…

I saw a picture of myself standing beside two friends who are in much better shape than I and are a few years older than me, I could not believe how fat I had become, I'd been lying to myself for years, so I decided to not only lose weight, as I've done that many times in my life, but truly change my lifestyle. So far I'm…

I just decided that as an adult male, a father, and husband, I should be able to at the very least run a mile, now I can, and I will continue adding to that base

You need to add image tags img surrounded by [ ] at the front and /img [ ] at the rear Like this.......... {img}http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u396/SanDFit/th_30DSDAY1.jpg{/img} .... but I used the "{ }" so you could see the coding, you need to use "[ ]" to make it work. Day1 Day 10 Day 28 Good progress, I bet you…

I started week 6 today..... 5 min warm up 9 min run 3 min walk 9 min run 5 min cool down Run speed was 5.5 mph Walk speed was 3 mph .....I was really worried I would not be able to do it, but I was, in fact the first 9 min run was fairly easy, the 3 min walk seemed to take forever and the second 9 min run was not bad. Next…

That is great! The more practice you have spinning the more comfortable you will be, there is a learning curve, but now that you are aware of it, you can do it, slowly up your cadence over time, and be aware that it is usually not a good idea to be grinding out a slow cadance. Keep it up! :drinker:

Thanks Sky! A few years ago my wife got the Billy's Bootcamp, it was a big deal in Japan, but I tried it once and it just about killed me, not my kind of thing at all, did not like it. Our daughter is doing it and enjoying it, and will take it to Canada with her next month when she goes, so I might be in the market for…

You really should try to up your cadence, can you see what it is while you are riding? I try for 100 to 110, spinning is the most efficient way to ride, but it takes practice. I used to ride with a guy who was on the Olympic track team, they only have one gear, so they have to be able to spin like a top! He would get on me…

Bike fit is worth every penny! Find a good shop, tell them you'd like to arrange a bike fit, tell them what your goals are, for example you want to spend more time in the saddle in comfort and are trying to lose weight, make sure they know that once you do get down, you will be shopping for a new road bike  You…

I'm interested, I need to get to the next step of my weight loss and fitness, I am running, and cycling and watching what I eat, I'm almost always under my goal, but I'm stuck at about 250 lbs. Usually they won't sell these things to me over here in Japan, but I can work that out, but often the meal ideas etc are very USA…

Love those kinds of bikes they truly are the SUVs of the bicycle world, yeah they are not the fastest, or the best handling yada yada, but they can do everything well  I mean honestly, if anyone had to have only one, ONLY ONE (shudder!! :noway: ) bicycle this would be the one that most people would want/need. The…

That sounds like a great week!

Welcome to the group! Yes, there are lots of women on here, and they are avid cyclist! Cheers!

I just finished my redo of day 1 week 5 of C25K, I upped my running pace to 6 mph and my walking to 3.5 mph, let me tell you, that was a killer workout for this old fat guy  5 minute warm-up Run 5 minutes Walk 2 minutes Run 4 minutes Walk 2 minute Run 5 minutes Walk 2 minutes Run 4 minutes Cool down 5 minutes…

I had to go to the hospital to get the results of my scan last week, they found a lump under my arm..... :frown: Turns out they think it is benign  To celebrate I took the looooong way home and got a good hour of cycling in this morning. I just finished my redo of day 1 week 5 of C25K, I upped my running pace to 6…

My parts came in, so tomorrow I'll tear the hub down again and put the new parts in!! I've passed 500Km for the year, yeah I know people who do that much in a week, but for me all except the first 120 Km have been doing deliveries around Tokyo with the trailer in tow, that should count for something

Welcome TRHuston!! Up your mileage week by week, ride by ride, you don't need to ride a full 100 miles before you do a full 100 mile race, but I'd get to say 75 miles without having any trouble before you do the full 100. Give your body a week off before the race and learn to eat, drink on the bike, the biggest problem I…
