Wow what a great story! I do hope you still made her clean up the garage

Welcome Kim! Sell the unused bike and get yourself a nicer one. Something you can do to improve the feel of your old MTB is to change the tyres, get some slicks on there, or partial slicks if you do some green lane riding, and then pump them tires up to a higher pressure, your old bike will feel so much quicker, with…

One more thing that I forgot to mention, if you buy new, make sure the frame is a good quality frame, the components can be upgraded as they wear out and are replaced. I've got a 23 year old Cannondale MTB that the only original parts are the frame, and the cranks, and the rear U-brakes, everything else has be replaces,…

You also need to budget for some gear, a short list: Helmet Headlight Tail light Gloves Cycling shorts Jersey Tool kit Cycling shoes On the bike, how much do you want to spend? Congrats on the new addition to the stable! I think the Trek 520 is one of "THE" touring bikes!

Very nice bike! BTW, you have to change the IMG tags to img a quirk in the software here, also the pics should be a max width of 450 pixles. Nice bike!

That is very funny, I love Jayne and Firefly! I don't name my bikes, well the old Cannondale I call "Crack-N-Fail" but that is a Cannondale wide nick name, supposed to be a slur I guess, but I think it is funny  Otherwise I just call them what they are, the Mixer and the Lrrb  I guess I'm not very…

I have a 1988 Cannondale SM700 MTB that has been just about everything possible, I'm currently converting it into a single speed... The old Crack N Fail dressed up as a city bike. I bought a Charge Mixer 8 this last January to do my trailer tugging duties..... Strong steel frame, disc brakes, 8 speed Alfine hub, this bike…

I think some of you know who I am, but an introduction is a good idea. I'm 47 years old, married with two teenage daughters. My lovely wife is Japanese, and I'm Canadian...eh... We live and work in Tokyo Japan, running my wife's family business, a liquor shop. I'm a hobbyist woodworker, trained mechanic, and…

Simple you want a bike from Peter White Cycles, the one I'd get is the Tout Terrain Silk Road..... http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/tout-terrain.asp Go read that extensive page on this bike(s) I do not think there is really anything else out there that I would rather put my hard earned money into. Go disk brakes, they rock,…

First, keep your feet and hands warm, if they are cold, you will really suffer. Second, most people wear too much when they start out. By the end of the first two or three miles, you should still be cold, if you are nice and toasty warm, you are wearing too much clothing, it takes the body a while to warm up. I used to…

Groups is a good idea!

Wow, that sounds like quite the adventure, did you guys camp out at all? When I was in scouts, we did a lot of hiking and camping out, some canoe trips, but never bicycle trips, way cool!!

My lovely wife is beautiful with short or long hair, and I'd never even think of telling her how to wear "Her" hair

I don't count anything but water as water  Diet Coke or diet anything with Aspartame does not pass my lips anymore, I hate even selling the stuff in our shop. Do you have 90 minutes to spare? http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6551291488524526735# I suggest that you watch this with an open mind

OK, I have to add to this  I have a CatEye HRM, it kind of sucks, sometimes it says my heart rate is WAY higher than it can be, I mean if my HR was at 240 bpm, I think I just might notice  last Tuesday I did some intense interval training, a total of 60 minutes, at a real avg speed of 16.8 MPH. MFP says:…

I told you this was a worthwhile thread to start  I just got a Polar CS200cad unit for my bicycle, I'm really looking forward to seeing some much more accurate results, and being able to put them up online on a diary of sorts. Keep on testing and tell us the results please!

Sorry to hear about your troubles, have you considered cycling? Very low impact and you can start at a very easy pace and build up strength and stamina bit by bit. Cheers!

I bought a Cat Eye MSC-HR10 unit and while it works, it is hard to navigate and the number/labels are too small to see without my reading glasses (getting old sucks!) The other thing is it is not shielded, so if I run or cycle with it, I have to turn my cell phone off, or the numbers get all screwy. For example it said I…

....and you have ONLY lost 11Kg :noway: Great effort for sure! I got a Cat Eye HRM, it works but my iPhone makes it all screwy, so if I want to use it I have to turn off my iPhone. Make sure that the unit you get is shielded from this type of thing. Cheers!

Be happy you have a bike lane, here in Tokyo they are very rare, and totally ignored! Glad you are enjoying your rides, that is important!

I too have to agree with everything there, especially the diet sodas, I used to drink tons of them, not I NEVER drink them, I find if I do have one (it's been a year since I did) I feel like crap for at least 24 hours afterwards. Great post!

Where do you park the bike? I had a similar problem, and it turned out to be a neighbour who does not want me to park my bike on my property......? They were sticking an ice pick into the side of my tire, I was stunned that they would do this, but they do not like cyclists and when I started to ride my bike all the time,…

Better than Slime, IMHO is to buy a better tire and tube, they are NOT all the same. Better tires, have protective layers in the actual tire, some boast Kevlar etc but most better tires have this kind of puncture protection. If you keep your tires pumped up and you have good quality tires and tubes, and you are lucky,…
