Okay, I haven't seen anyone mention beans or potatoes! My breaky this morning: - baked potato topped with bean/lentil chili - buckwheat porridge with fruit Yum.

My M-W-F run is 1.5 hours My Sa run is 3 hours (3.5 yesterday)

Because it builds cardiovascular fitness, gives you nice calf muscles, and it's fun!

Trying to find some sources that don't just say "I've heard" or anecdotal evidence: "Update from Dr. Wechsler: Based on the research I’ve seen, the gluten molecule is too big to pass transdermally. It may be absorbed through mucous membranes (inside the mouth, nose, etc) but not through skin. Most skin care products do not…

The explanation I have heard - and again, I have no expertise in this area, just repeating what I have been told - is that the gluten molecules are too large to be absorbed through the skin. Other molecules that are smaller can be absorbed through the skin. This may, or may not be true, I'm certainly not going to swear by…

I've been told (sorry, I don't have any studies for you) that gluten molecules are too large to be absorbed through the skin and cause an autoimmune (celiac) reaction. However, an allergy to one of the proteins in wheat - or another ingredient in your cosmetics - can definitely cause a reaction on your skin. I know I react…

No grains, meat, dairy, almonds, walnuts, dates, raw pineapple, raw green beans (some of these were before going gluten-free) Have to be careful of strawberries, tropical fruits, chocolate, raw verggies

I wouldn't decrease your calories, or your running is going to suffer. Unless you can see/feel that you are putting on fat - it is visible, you have done a fat calliper test, you have measured, your clothes are tighter - then it is probably muscle and glycogen stores, which is good, not bad.

There are a number of veg*n groups. Here are a few I am on: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/2434-veg-ns-raw-foodists http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/45-happy-herbivores http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/2061-eating-to-live http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/219-mfp-vegetarians

Yup, I did too. But my body composition has changed for the better, so I'm not stressing over it. My clothes still fit.

I'm another audiobook listener. Right now listening to "The Count of Monte Cristo", one of my all time favourite books.

Each kind of grain contains a different kind of prolamine or gluten. The prolamines in wheat, rye, and barley are the ones that are generally referenced as being harmful to celiacs and are the ones that are referred to by Joe Blow on the street when discussing a "gluten free" diet, and are the only ones required to be…

Good advice so far, and I would echo it all. I haven't seen anyone mention potatoes or beans! I am completely grain free, so rice and corn are out for me too, but root veggies and beans are dirt cheap, so then I can afford to get quinoa and buckwheat (pseudocereals, not grains) as well. Don't forget all of the usual frugal…

A heads-up before you look at my diary, then! I run and weight train, so my calories are 2500+. However, most of my intake is "clean" whole foods. If you see cookie, muffin, or ice cream in my journal, rest assured that it is homemade, grain free, vegan, fat free, and a small portion size! LOL.

Let me know if you need help! I am vegetarian, grain free, dairy free, with other allergies. I try to keep the fruit servings down too, which has made a big difference to my skin. And hot spices cause me problems too. My diary is open. Note that I am just journalling foods in the notes section right now, so scroll down if…

I'm grain free, so no rice or pasta for me. I eat plenty of carbs by way of potatoes, quinoa, beans, pancakes/muffins, bananas, and buckwheat. My diary is open, just be aware that I have only been journalling in the notes section since the end of June, so keep scrolling down if you don't see any entries. My long runs are…

I also use a headlamp when running in the dark, and flashing armbands to make myself nice and visible to cars.

I do 10K on Friday and my long run on Saturday. Usually have breakfast for supper Friday night (pancakes or muffins). Nothing too different from any other day.

Subbing out the oil in cookies will mean you get a soft, cakey, not crispy, cookie. Doesn't bother me, just mentioning it so you know what to expect.

Quinoa is not a grain. It is not part of the grass family, but part of the beet family.

I am grain free and dairy free. Both gluten and non-gluten grains bother me. A number of members of my family are also gluten-free, for various reasons. Our celiac and/or gluten-/dairy triggered symptoms are below. Myself: Chronic Nosebleeds Anemia Depression/SAD/PMS Reactions to antibiotics and medications Other…

Sometimes gluten-free helps hashimotos or other autoimmune issues. Which may be one reason people have suggested/are having success with paleo.

Excellent! Yes, they are probably "absence seizures". The doctor will probably try to induce one by having him hyperventilate. I don't know the effect generally of gluten on seizures; I do know that gluten can cause a lot of neurological symptoms. My son had a number of seizure-like episodes when he was younger, but was…

I am grain free, dairy free, and have a number of other allergies/intolerances. I also have a difficult time with raw vegetables, and have cut most of them out in the last couple of months. Much easier on my tummy if I microwave them for a minute, or roast them, or whatever. Carrots in particular give me terrible cramps if…

I do know of others who have been diagnosed with colitis who have eliminated symptoms by going gluten free and dairy free. Dairy is apparently a big trigger - don't just go lactose free, but actually dairy free.

Welcome! Jump right in!

Do you have a microwave? What do you eat for supper?
-
Heat can definitely be a problem. How about sleep? And how are you eating? Are you getting enough carbs for fuel?
-
Oh, definitely. My son had terrible reflux and stomach problems before going gluten free. I have a friend whose son was on very heavy prescription for GERD until going off of gluten, then went off the meds completely.

Vegetables are a totally different animal. <snrrck>
