Listeria is most easily contracted by women who are pregnant and can cause complications.

Find something that you like doing - playing on wii, yoga, whatever - and get up 10 minutes early to do that thing. Stick with it for a week or two. Decide that you would like to get up earlier to get a little bit more time in, and set the alarm another 5 or 10 minutes earlier. Keep adding in other activities, longer…

There are lots of training schedules around - Higdon, Galloway, SmartCoach. Find a schedule and stick to it.

Bring a one-pot meal that you can eat. Something that even if there is nothing else you can eat, will fill you up and keep you satisfied. Maybe that's chili, potato salad, bean salad, whatever. A side dish for everyone else and a main dish for you. Then if there are plain meats, vegetables, fruits, etc. at the picnic, they…

My period didn't change significantly when I went gluten free, but gluten/intolerances can affect your reproductive system as well as any other system in your body. I have had other things impact my period - stress, changes in exercise, etc. They can cause break-through bleeding, shorten or lengthen your cycle, make it…

Basmati, maybe? I really liked jasmine rice, when I could eat it.

What kind of foods are you looking for? Feel free to check out my diary (lately just journalling my foods in the diary section, so look down at the bottom if you don't see anything in the entry). You will see some of your allergens in there, but we can talk about how to adapt if you see something you like.

Women's vitamins always contain iron. Makes me throw up. But even if you are taking an iron supplement, you can still be anaemic. If you are celiac, bleeding in the gut, low on B12, etc.

Consider "irritable bladder", which can be triggered by things like spicy foods, acidic foods, alcohol, caffeine, artificial sweeteners, msg, etc. Frequent urination can also be due to essential fatty acids deficiency. Rare, but possible, can be related to malabsorption or metabolic issues as well as lack of enough fat in…

Yup, absolutely. If I am too tired, I want to eat, eat, eat. Especially very calorie dense foods. I assume my body has decided that because I have not gone to bed, I am dealing with a crisis and will need more calories to keep up my energy and brain function. That's just my speculation.

Any time you think "should I see a doctor", the answer is probably yes. I had some severe dizziness due to an inner ear inflammation at one time. My grandmother has Meniere's disease, which causes dizziness/vertigo and other ear issues. Anyway, the doctor gave me a prescription for the inner ear inflammation, which I had a…

They measure liquids in fluid ounces, not troy ounces. It is a volume measurement not a weight measurement. LOL. 1 fl oz = 30 mL. Lettuce - torn, not finely shredded, loosely packed Flour - sifted, spooned into the measuring cup, not packed down, not shaken down, levelled with a knife/spatula Olives - small or medium…

I am very introverted. I call myself antisocial. I will avoid parties and social events when I can, I prefer to be at home. I prefer eating at home to eating out, watching tv at home to going to a movie, etc. I don't have friends that I go and do things with. I have my family. I work in a very small office, and we don't…

What if the opposite? What if he lost interest when you got thinner?

I've been watching for coconut aminos, but haven't seen them in the stores here yet. Every now and then I run into black soy beans. I may have bought them once, but don't ask me what I might have made with them . . .

I have a half scheduled for Sep 29 too. It will be my second.

For those of you who are anemic, or find yourselves always borderline, please consider getting tested for celiac disease. It doesn't matter how much iron you're eating if you are not able to absorb it due to celiac disease. Other food intolerances may also come into play; I know I was always anaemic until I gave up meat!

I haven't seen anyone mention that Vitamin C promotes iron absorption as well. So citrus, tomato sauce, or peppers at the same time as your high iron foods or in your iron cookware will give you even more.

Well . . . where are your beans and vegetables? Your whole grain products should have some iron in them as well, iron isn't included in all nutritional labels/recipes. So you are not seeing everything that you are eating, but you do need to start adding some greens, beans, and other veggies into your diet!

Pizza and chips are still possibilities without wheat. There are many options out there!

Just make a double recipe! If it normally feeds four, then doubling it will give you four lunches, or you can have one or two lunches and put the others in single-serving containers in the freezer for next time you don't have leftovers. My lunch is usually a baked potato, some frozen veggies, and some kind of leftovers.…

I think you misread me. I said "increasingly, grains are being implicated in the triggering of autoimmune diseases (not just celiac disease, but hashimoto's, RA, diabetes, sjogren's, etc.) Some celiacs still have autoimmune reactions to rice, corn, and other gluten-free grains, not just the gluten grains. I think you're…

I am completely grain free, vegetarian, dairy free, with multiple allergies. I cook from scratch, eat fruits, veggies, beans, potatoes and sweet potatoes, what nuts and seeds I can. To find gluten free dairy free options, search for GFCF. Lunches are easy if you can just take leftovers of the night before's dinner. Feel…

I'm sure you will be shocked that I do not have a sheaf of properly peer-reviewed, double-blind, large population, long term studies at my fingertips to prove the hypothesis. I apologize for that. The study of autoimmune diseases, especially in relation to diet, is in its infancy, and much of what I "know" is as a result…

It is possible to be vegan and grain free. Not necessarily easy, but once you have figured things out and settled into it, it's not bad. If you have celiac disease and don't cut out the gluten grains, you're not going to get the nourishment that you need because of the damage that they do to your gut. If you react to all…

Hashimoto's is an autoimmune disease, and increasingly, grains are being implicated in the triggering of autoimmune diseases (not just celiac disease, but hashimoto's, RA, diabetes, sjogren's, etc.) Some celiacs still have autoimmune reactions to rice, corn, and other gluten-free grains, not just the gluten grains.
