  • If there's nothing I can eat there, chances are I bow out and get together after dinner. One restaurant I brought my own pasta and sauce for them to prepare. Sometimes I'll settle for a salad with oil and vinegar - I have other allergies too. If we're on the road, I always have other food with me so that I don't have to…
  • In Western Canada, Chianti's has gf bread and pasta, and I get the spaghetti squash salad, sans chicken, with oil and vingear dressing.
  • This is one thing that I really like my FitBit for. I don't have to figure out how much time I was walking or how intense it was. The FitBit automatically logs it and adjusts my MFP accordingly. Great for those grocery store trips - how far did I really walk going up and down all those aisles?
  • Yes, of course! I try to still eat healthy foods, and some chocolate. I know that the "I can't stop eating even though I'm full" day will only last a day, and then I'll be okay, so I just do the best I can.
  • I don't do a lot of protein powders, but I did buy one for occasional use in shakes or whatever. I can't do dairy or grain, and the soy powders still use grains (rice), so what I use is hemp protein. No added sugars or flavours, just ground hempseed. If I want to add sugars or flavours, I can do that myself.
  • I like to eat in the evening. So I leave plenty of calories free to do so, do an extra workout session if I need to, etc. I still aim to stick to healthy, whole foods; fruit, nut butters, dosa's, supper leftovers, etc., and the occasional chocolate.
  • Okay, I'm not sure why folks are saying that bread, pasta, and potatoes do not contain complex carbs. They certainly do. Simple carbs means mono and di saccarides; ie sugars. Even so, there are very few foods that you could eat that were only complex carbs or only simple carbs. They tend to both be in the same package.…
  • Any sort of baking goes like hotcakes around here. LOL. I don't do a lot of baking, because they'll eat everything in one day!
  • Me too - I found my measurements from a year ago when I was ordering some clothing online. I lost 5 inches from my bust, waist, and hips (15 total). I've taken additional measurements now too. Since this time last year, I have lost around 15 pounds.
  • Great goals, guys! You are awesome! My goals right now aren't well-defined. I want to : - continue to exercise every day - run a half-marathon with hubby's nieces in May - do more strength training I am very happy with what I have accomplished in the last year, and don't want to either (a) try to do too much and end up…
  • Bump! I just saw these online for the first time a few days ago, and I'm curious as to what people have to say. I can't fit a treadmill or exercise bike in my home, but the mini steppers or mini ellipticals look interesting.
  • nori any veggie with hummus smoothies rice tofu of any kind, but espec ially smoked or curry beans with corn chips
  • Yeah, my exercise calories is usually at least 500 per day. 500 calories could weigh quite a bit more than that - lots of my calories are fruits and veggies, so water and fibre could make it weigh a lot more. A grapefruit is 230 g, and only 50 cals.
  • Thank you! I just joined that group yesterday, but haven't posted yet. I measured last weekend, so I have a baseline (and it made me feel good to see that in the past year I have lost 5 inches off of the bust, waist, and hips (15 total).) <Breathing> I can do this. Pam
  • For me, I figure I get about 10 sweat points per calorie. It will differ from person to person. Just like with running, the heavier you are the more calories it is going to burn.
  • I increased my calories from 1200 to 1700 yesterday. Today my weight spiked 3 lbs. Everybody reassure me, please! Intellectually I know I haven't put on three pounds of fat. It is water weight and extra food in my digestive tract. But I need to hear the same thing happened to you, and then it went down!
  • Different foods and diets work for different people. For general health, I agree with eating as unprocessed as possible, not adding extracted oils, eating a wide variety of plant foods, and watching portion sizes. Those words will mean different things to different people. That said, if I eat meat I will throw up for three…
  • Yes, I do that too. Seeing a doctor about exercise-induced asthma is on my list of things to do . . .
  • How do you sprint in place? High knees? Running in place as fast as you can? I picture sprints as long strides, and obviously you can't do that in place.
  • Great job! I'm going to try upping my calories next week, see what shakes loose!
  • Do food intolerances count? Vegetarian Dairy-free Grain-free Walnuts Almonds Dates Have to be careful of osme other foods.
  • Digestive enzymes, acidophilus, ginger, and tonic water.
  • Lots of fruits, veggies, and beans in my diary.
  • I do eat soy - tofu, mostly - but am vegetarian, grain-free, dairy-free. Lots of fruits, veggies, beans and lentils, nuts/seeds, pseudocereals (quinoa and buckwheat), etc. Unprocessed, mostly from scratch, I have other allergies as well. My diary is open to friends.
  • The protein combining theory proposed by Francis Lappe was recounted decades ago, yet still hangs on. Vegetable proteins are not incomplete.
  • Some interesting thoughts.
  • Umm, cauliflower, broccoli, and brussels sprouts are crucifers, part of the cabbage family, not night shades. Night shades are tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, potatoes . . . But they are high fibre and also produce a lot of gas, so can cause a lot of gastric distress if you're not used to them.
  • 5:30 (which is before dawn in the winter, after dawn in the summer). I'm not in bed until 11:30, so I couldn't get up much earlier.
  • Me too! I collect recipes all week long, so I am trying to cook something new twice a week to try some of them out. Any my boys don't seem to mind! I am using BigOven for meal planning. Integrates my meal plan with the grocery list on my phone so I don't have to remember to copy from recipes to phone, except when I am…
