Really? Where? Pam

When I was not eating enough for my exercise level, I found I was feeling bad within three or four days, and my weight loss plateaued almost immediately. Pam

Oh, you guys are all so well-behaved. My secret is that if I am below my calories for the day, I will often grab a few chocolate chips on the way to bed by way of a reward, and not log them. Heh heh heh. It's my way of rebelling. And yes, I really do mean just a few chocolate chips, not a handful or anything. Just a sweet…

I wonder if it would be different running on the street than running on the treadmill. The machine might be 'encouraging' you to run faster than your natural pace. Pam

Not to discount the effect of the heart problems, but a lot of people who are a stick as a child and overweight as an adult have celiac disease. Not saying you do, but something to consider. I'm glad to see you here. I think that once you become more aware of what you are eating by logging here, you will be able to cut…

You have all of the equipment I do to prepare food. More than a lot of college students. So are you looking to branch out? Learn how to cook? Learn how to use your equipment? Or you still want to stick to your microwave? I agree with what others have said, more fresh fruits and veggies and cooking from scratch. But your…

I agree. Conditions in the industry are not good. However, if you eat meat, you are compounding those problems. What do you think the cows are eating? By eating lower on the food chain, you are ultimately consuming less agricultural products, not more. You can eat 200 cal of corn, or you can eat 200 cal of beef and all of…

Some people are motivated by the gym. Others hate it. Some can afford the gym, some can't. I don't have the money for a gym (yeah, they are a lot more expensive here than in the US) and I don't have the time to drive to one. I like to get out of bed, throw on some clothes, and go out for a run or do my DVD/wii/iPhone…

Yes, that is what a good personal trainer would do. Pam

I agree that it would be wise to: 1. limit processed foods, whether they have soy in them or not (gmo corn is even harder to avoid than soy) 2. eat soy in moderation, use as a condiment 3. try to make sure your soy products are organic/non gmo soy 4. eat most of your soy in its fermented form (miso or tempeh) I suspect…

Okay, Mercola publishes a lot of . . . new and not generally accepted . . . stuff. And lots of opinion stated as fact. And a lot of it is just a lengthy advertisement for the products he sells. Take it with a grain of salt and check sources. When googling about soy, beware that most of the negative stuff on the web traces…

If you're speaking to my post - and you may just be making a general statement - I did green smoothies for a number of months, not just a couple of weeks. And I get lots of fibre in my diet, usually 40-60 g per day. But I have many allergies and intolerances, and raw greens is one of them. Pam

Good idea. Some celiacs are sensitive to other grains as well (I can't have any true grains), so testing one a week and seeing how you feel is a good idea, rather than adding them all haphazardly. Pam

"The effect of cooking on goitrogens Although research studies are limited in this area, cooking does appear to help inactivate the goitrogenic compounds found in food. Both isoflavones (found in soy foods) and isothiocyanates (found in cruciferous vegetables) appear to be heat-sensitive, and cooking appears to lower the…

I have never heard this before, and have not found it to be true myself. My heartrate slows down pretty quickly after I finish the cardio portion of my workout. Pam

Yes, to almonds in any form. Pam

My hubby still offers me foods that I am allergic to. It isn't because he is sabotaging me or trying to kill me, it's just because he is enjoying something, and forgets that I can't have it. Likewise, when he says I should stop exercising and come cuddle, he isn't trying to sabotage my workout any more than when he tells…

And for those with thyroid issues, it is only raw soy that is the problem, not cooked soy like in soy milk. For me, I'm allergic to Almond, so that's out for me. I generally stick to water, but if I need a milk for something, I steal my son's soy milk. Pam

Just think of me running in the ice and snow, bundled up for -35C. Warmer this week, but last week was chilly! Pam

My body cannot handle that amount of raw greens. Especially raw greens plus banana. Completely blocks me up. I did green smoothies for a number of months, and it just didn't work for me. Everyone is different. I still eat loads of veggies and fruit, but take it easy on the greens. Pam

It isn't like Pilates is cardio. I generally work out 1.5 hours in the morning, combination of cardio and strength, .5 hour walk after work, and then another .5 hour or so in the evening. I'm well rested in between, I eat enough calories, no problem. In fact, adding workouts later in the day helps to prevent sore muscles…

Jawbone Up is not a HRM. It is a pedometer, like the FitBit. And last I heard, they had all been recalled due to battery issues. Pam

Me too, tjalred. Meat and dairy make me sick, and I do eat eggs. Pam

Interesting idea! I would need to use maple syrup, as rice is out for me. But it could certainly be "made to order", and chia would be a popular gelling agent due to the popularity of "Born to Run". I haven't any marathons, but I have been okay with homemade trail mix for up to 21 km. But I know others say no fibre,…

- no dairy or soy - options: rice milk (not Rice Dream), hemp milk, almond milk, coconut milk, ice creams from rice or coconut, sorbets, fruit popsicles, etc., Daiya cheese - no peanuts - options: tree nuts, seeds, nut butters, seed butters - no shellfish - red meat, white meat, fish, beans, lentils, nuts, seeds - no sugar…

Haven't heard that before, but it is one of the only flours I can have. Pam

In my family, migraines are related to celiac disease. And of course TOM too. Pam

It's becoming more typical. The excuses given are (a) safety - I highly doubt I'm going to get run over on the racecourse (b) encourage camaraderie, people talking to one another (c) prevent the advantage of some runners having coaching/pacing programs on their phones and others not. Pam
