  • Hey, some new faces! Post new threads/requests if you want! The group is pretty quiet, but can be busier if you want it to be.
  • Gluten can definitely impact kidneys/kidney disease. I'd highly recommend Celiac Nurse's book (http://celiacnurse.com/) to detail the various areas that gluten can impact. Are you on any blood pressure meds? My dad (also celiac) was put on blood pressure meds that made his kidneys fail. Luckily, he regained function when…
  • Everybody's been so encouraging thus far! Unless you have some sort of metabolic or malabsorption problem, I can't imagine why a doctor would say no simply to reducing meat consumption. Okay, there are some pretty jerky and uninformed doctors out there, but what you're doing is not drastic or dangerous. I would…
  • From your diary, you are very limited in variety. Start expanding your repertoire. Be open to new foods. Don't worry if they are not typical breakfast foods for breakfast, etc. Don't worry if they "go together" in a meal. Your calories tend to be very low, try to get some more calories in, that will help a bit with the…
  • Okay, I was just glancing at your diary to see what you were eating, and it doesn't look like a typical elimination diet. So maybe what I need to ask is: a) what have you eliminated? b) what are you eating more than you used to?
  • What are you eating on your elimination diet? Are you getting enough calories? Certainly it can take 2-3 weeks to finish detoxing and start to feel better. When I went off of gluten, I wanted to sleep for the next two weeks.
  • For curly girls, I suggest using conditioner and no shampoo, and finishing with coconut oil. Last week I hadn't topped-off my little bottle of conditioner before going to the pool, so I used a bit of shampoo+conditioner, figuring it would be better than skipping the conditioner, and it was dreadful. Completely stripped and…
  • Another option if you're open to soy would be to blend silken tofu with fruit, pumpkin, or something tasty in your food processor. If you're not able to have soy, same thing with soaked cashews, coconut milk, or another flavour neutral base, even avocado.
  • My usual pattern currently: breakfast - bean chili, fruit snack - homemade trail mix lunch - supper leftovers, maybe with potato, quinoa, and/or frozen veggies snack - buckwheat porridge or baked potato supper - potatoes w/ sauce - Mexican - tacos, taco salad, chili, sloppy joes, quesadillas - hearty veg/lentil soup -…
  • Try a search for paleo tortilla recipes, or use a lettuce or other green wrap. Another option would be something based on a dosa or crepe recipe. Crepe is mostly eggs, plus whatever flour you please (feel free to start with just a regular crepe recipe and sub your favourite whole flour, including a bean/pea/lentil flour),…
  • I usually go for something hearty, like a chili, casserole, etc. so that it can serve as my main dish, and as a side dish for others.
  • I am grain free, vegan, multiple allergies, basically have to make everything from scratch. I eat lots of veggies, beans, potatoes/sweet potatoes, fruit, nuts/seeds that I can, and what little bit of baking that I feel like doing. My usual meal plan (from scratch ingredients) is something like: Mon - leftovers & clean out…
  • Browse some vegan or vegan/gluten free blogs for lots of bean ideas. - lentil soup - homemade minestrone soup - baked beans - Mexican - tacos, taco salad, chili, sloppy joes, etc. - garbanzos on top of salad - baked beans/chili over baked potato - beans and plantains - beans and rice - lots of different kinds in lots of…

  • Yes, I would expect to see some changes in three weeks' time. If eliminating milk, beef, and pork, you might find yourself some yummy new recipes by browsing vegan recipe sites. I eat vegan, grain free, other allergies, so if you are looking for anything particular, just ask. It won't take you long to get your feet under…
  • While your body is overloaded with gluten - eating it every day - then your body is at war all the time, trying to fight something that really shouldn't be dangerous to it. The reaction is dampened because there are only so many soldiers to fight the invaders. Once your body starts to heal, then the soldiers are having a…
  • Me and my family like quinoa-based stuffing too. For big occasions, I'll make my own bread and stuffing if I am up to it, but for day-to-day meals, quinoa is a much faster, easier solution. And like you, I use lots of leftovers and "make over" into new dishes.
  • I generally prepare my own food. If I am going to a dinner that someone else has prepared, I will, at very least, take a one-dish meal for myself that will be a side-dish for everyone else. Then anything else at the dinner that is safe is just a bonus. My own little family and my extended family have multiple allergy/diet…
  • Generally speaking, coconut is processed on the same equipment as nuts, so it must be labelled as "contains nuts" on allergy labels. taxologically speaking, it is not related to tree nuts, cashews, or legumes so if you were able to get a "clean" source or were not sensitive enough to cross-contaminated equipment, you might…
  • If you are making shakes, I would suggest plain soy milk. You can, of course, add sugar/stevia, vanilla, cocoa etc. to your shake if you need it. If you buy plain, you can also use it for sauces and savoury dishes, some of which can turn out a little bit strange with a vanilla flavoured milk. The soy milk that I use…
  • By the way, there is a grain free group if you are looking for help here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/8246-grain-free

  • Sounds like hubby is sensitive to gluten as well. He may be Celiac and has just never figured it out. Celiac disease and allergy are not the same thing, and Celiac disease will not show up on an allergy test. We went gluten-free for my son (whole household had to be gluten-free, because with his impulsivity and behaviour…
  • I am also grain-free.

  • My chili doesn't have any meat subs or veggies in it (other than onions and tomato sauce). Just beans and spices. My boys hate the stuff with big chunks of zucchini in it. Even chunks of tomato are not acceptable. Only sauce.
  • Not gonna work when sunset is 4:30 p.m. and sunrise is 8:00 a.m. It's almost right in the summer when sunrise is 5:30 a.m. and sunset is 10:00 p.m. Any time you change your routine, expect for it to take a while for your body to adjust. Also, sometimes our body is busy fighting a virus or something like that and we don't…
  • I like iSmoothRun. It syncs with RunKeeper and a lot of other social sites. Pam
  • Two pairs of sweats? I would have been sweltering in that even today, when I ran at -22C! Uggh. I'd rather be comfortable enough to continue than to have to be uncomfortable in order to burn a minimal amount more calories.

  • I have a mini donut recipe that I love it in. But most coconut flour recipes use tons of eggs, which makes them difficult to veganize.
