  • *I have unimaginable patience when dealing with others. *I can teach you almost anything once I know it, and you WILL learn it by the time I am done. *I know that truly good leaders need to also know how to be truly good followers, and I can do both. *I am one of the best untrained cooks you know, be it dinner for two or a…
  • I just tried week 5 day 1 and experienced my first real setback. Half way through the run, I felt a painful "pop" in my hamstring. I am about 80% sure I could have run it off, but I know better than to gamble on that. I walked home, stretched, and now it is ice time. I'll have to give it another go on Monday!

  • For what it is worth from a complete stranger in the internet, those sound like wonderful activities. I especially understand music being good or bad, depending upon your mood - I am the same way. I feel that it is very important to not lose sight of the things we enjoy doing, and to make sure we do them regularly. It is…
  • What do you enjoy doing? I throw parties and play board games. My wife does paper craft. I have friends who friends play video games, participate in sports, or go to clubs/bars. What recharges your emotional batteries?
  • I feel that dlyeates explains it very well. I do not know much about the 100/0 principle as detailed in the book linked to the video, but I try to live my life by what I believe is a similar fashion. The two things to realize are: 1. Living 100/0 only works if the other person will eventually invest in return. Putting more…
  • I just completed week 4! This was the first week to really challenge me, but whoo-boy, what a challenge! I have been weight training in my off days, but I may need to stop this as my legs are taking longer and longer to feel better. Wow, can I feel the burn in my calves and the balancing muscles in my hips.

  • 1. The cells in your body do not have cell walls - no animal does. It is not uncommon for an everyday person to make this mistake, but there is no way someone performing a "medical" procedure should ever do the same. That is like going to your doctor, and he or she points at your hair and calls it leaves, like on a tree.…
  • All guys are different, but as a guy, I can say that I was pretty much unwilling to discuss marriage with my now-wife until I was sure we should get married. I wanted to be with her, but I was not read to commit to marriage. Then, after work one day, I just sort of realized that she was the girl I should marry, and it was…
  • I have the same questions about Body Fortress. I do not mind the taste, so that is not my problem. I began using it after workouts since I was getting pretty sore, and the soreness has stopped almost completely. I feel like I should just say, "Good enough is good enough," but some people really seem to feel that it is an…
  • I weigh 292 lbs. and have had bad knees since high school, when I was in great shape. I begin week four today. When I started paying attention to my form, running got much easier. The best advice I have found is to make sure you run at 180 footfalls per minute, which you can do by counting your right foot landing and…
  • I know this is a good price, but is it worth it to get the Advantage when the Link can connect to a smart phone? I'd love to hear opinions on this.
  • When people say that muscle weighs more than fat, they mean per unit volume. No one thinks 5lbs. of anything does not weigh 5 lbs.
  • Like others have said, there is no one right age. I started dating my wife at 21, we got engaged 1.75 years later, and we got married 1.75 years after that. She is is 2.5 years younger than I. We have been together for ten years and are still going strong. The reality is that no marriage will be perfect. There are days we…
  • Best of luck to you both, then. I know the path ahead is not easy, but your attitude shows that you are marching on the right path.
  • There is neither shame nor harm in counselling, either individually or as a couple. Maybe couples counselling would be helpful for you and your husband? Going to counseling does not mean that you have a bad marriage or anything of the sort, so please do not think I am calling your marriage bad or your husband a lousy guy.…
  • I am a role model and mentor to a bunch of kids at a local technical college. If the older fat guy they look up to can do it, then they can do. Really, though that was not enough. When my wife got pregnant, it finally gave me the strength to really get on the wagon and stay on it this time. I wanted a longer life in which…
  • Here are my suggestions, take them or leave them: 1. Eat all of your calories. You are hungry, but you have 300-500 calories left over many days. Eat them! You will still lose weight. 2. Eat more protein. You like red meat, so get more in your diet! Protein will help you to feel fuller longer, and it will also help you to…
  • I have a maybe 12 cigar a year "habit". I do love them dearly, but my wife hates them so much that I need to be a good doobie most of the time. I can't honestly say what I like in particular, because I just like them all so much. So long as it is decent and doesn't have a weird flavoring added, I enjoy it. I mostly smoke…
  • Not only is the fat still leaving, but it will leave even faster because your muscles will need more energy just to exist! You will also eventually be able to exercise harder, burning more calories during your cardio. People who only gain muscle and lose no fat actually look healthier, and "better" in the eyes of the…
  • If you are self conscious, get to class a little early and claim a spot in the back of the room. No one will really be judging you wherever you are, but you might feel better if no one is looking at you from behind. My sister-in=law went from very overweight to a svelte runner thanks in large part to Zumba. Enjoy it!
  • I am in the 290s, and I am in week 34 of C25K. Do it! It has been the weirdest thing in the world for me, because I now find that I enjoy running! I had never thought of myself as a runner, but the easy introduction can be positively addicting. I lift weights on my off days to help with my overall fitness. I find that my…
  • I use both cottage cheese and beans. They are delicious in a salad! If I add enough healthy goodies, I do not even need dressing.
  • I just budget in my wine calories. Then, when I want to eat more of something, I need to decide if I really want it more than a glass or two of wine. The wine almost always wins. When I pour my wine, I pour two glasses worth (7 oz.) into a single large glass; then I cork the bottle and put it away. I do not drink next to…
  • I have the same breakfast most every morning. It is not a traditional breakfast, but it can keep me going at least until lunch if not well after. 1 cup full fat cottage cheese 1/2 cup beans (black, kidney, etc. - it does not matter) Cal: 322 Carbs: 25g Fiber: 8g Fat: 11g Protein: 35g If you want a traditional breakfast,…
  • I am not advocating medication as the only, or even the first, method of treatment. Many people with ADD, adults and children alike, can manage their thoughts using other coping strategies. All of that said, medication should not be dismissed out of hand. When used properly, ADD medications are generally safe and effective…

  • Good job so far! There is a lot of great advice already in this thread. The only pieces I would add are: 1. Drink lots of water. I do not get as thirsty now that I follow a lower-carb eating strategy, but I always feel great the moment the glass touched my lips. Water will help to prevent any of the rare kidney problems…
  • This entire chain of thought is highly worrisome to me. It is true that SOME PEOPLE do better without meds. MANY OF US with ADD, however, do need our medications to get by in life. It seems straight up dangerous to be using both propaganda and personal anecdotes to present only one side of the coin. I cannot organize my…

  • Dr. Oz, or his writers, were fairly clever on this one. This so-called cleanse pays lip service to the reasons people think they need a cleanse while delivering the benefits they are likely actually looking for. I am impressed. If you are eating a common "modern" diet high in processed foods and low in whole foods, then…
  • No harm done at all! Starvation is not something that can happen in a day - do not worry about it. I under eat six days a week so that I can have one awesome day. Many people on MFP do this successfully. They key is to make sure that your pig out is not more calories than you have been saving up.
  • I use them, but my net carbs are generally right around 100g/day, so I am on the higher end of low carb. I limit myself to no more than 1/2 cup of beans at a meal, and no more than 1 full cup per day. Left to my devices, I could ruin my diet eating beans, since I enjoy them so much. They are much more filling than they may…
