  • I can see New Jersey from my house.
  • I can see New Jersey on my commute...but we're already friends too :)
  • NO EXCUSES!!!
  • Just be honest about who you are and let the right guy find you.
  • I love me a good single malt scotch, but at ~70 calories per ounce, it's just not part of my lifestyle anymore. I still have a little sometimes, but not several times per week like I used to.

  • I use a Polar, and I assume that it overestimates. That's the primary reason that I only eat back HALF of my exercise calories.
  • I prefer to run outside, and when I do, I listen to music. When I run on my treadmill, I sometimes watch TV, but I have to line the treadmill up perfectly with the TV, which is mounted on the wall at about eye level while standing. I run between 8-9 minute miles, and can watch TV okay. I can't read while I run though.
  • I'm so proud of you for posting this. You can do this, and we're all here to help you!
  • Well, I'd have to put it in a FRONTpack to be what it used to be, but it might just work. :) I also can't wear my wedding ring anymore until I get it resized. I lost it playing football a few months back and had to go buy a metal detector to find it! I'm wearing it on a necklace until I get around to getting it resized…
  • Primary differences between the FT4 and FT7 are that the FT7 stores more workouts in its memory (99 instead of 10, I believe), and the FT7 can have its data read and uploaded to some website, though that requires an additional hardware component that you have to buy. Same transmitter. Same logic inside. If you're going to…
  • The FT4 and FT7 wrist units both take a CR1632 battery and the transmitter takes a CR2025. You should be able to pick those up pretty much anywhere (discount store, drug store, etc.), but if you have a hard time finding them, try Radio Shack. Or you could order them online (Amazon carries them) and just keep an extra set…
  • I have the FT7 and I'm really happy with it. The FT4 is almost the same, and is cheaper. Sears has the women's one (smaller wrist band) on sale for $44.99 http://www.sears.com/polar-ft4-female-fitness-computer/p-00614450000P?prdNo=18&blockNo=18&blockType=G18
  • Chobani has larger containers, but it's actually MORE EXPENSIVE by volume than buying the small ones, at least at the grocery stores I go to, so I just buy the little ones.
  • The author was kind of a jerk, and while I agree that a lot of the things he talked about aren't a "workout", that doesn't mean they can't be exercise. I do kind of roll my eyes a little bit on the "light cleaning" and "preparing food" entries that I see on MFP (my apologies to anybody on my FL who's offended), but there…
  • Most of the ones I've done have been $20-30. I actually did TWO races on Thanksgiving, a 5-mile and a 5k, and only paid $20 total, and I got 4 shirts and 2 medals. :) I did sign up for a Spartan Sprint in July that was over $100, but that's a whole different kind of event.
  • You don't have to burn more than you consume from exercise. Normal burn from living (your BMR) would be included in that. If you consume less calories than your TDEE you will lose weight.
  • South Beach is on the long list of things I tried that worked but just weren't sustainable for me. I lost a decent amount of weight quickly, but I was always hungry and grumpy and my wife hated me. I've had far more success (see my ticker) by just tracking calories, but best of all, I've been doing it this way for over a…
  • I keep a stash of Clif bars, both the energy and the protein ones, in my office. I also try to have some fresh fruit and greek yogurt there as well, but those work better if you have your own mini fridge.
  • Used to buy 45s all the time as a kid. Couldn't tell you what the first one was though. I ALWAYS loved music. I probably bought my first 45 before I could read.
  • Just posting to confirm what others have said. The only difference is the size of the wristband and the color.
  • I don't watch a lot of movies, but this one really made me feel it.
  • A guy I work with has it and uses it with his iPhone 5. He loves it, and I'm thinking about getting one. I have the FT7, but the one thing it doesn't do that I'd love is keep track of my HR over time throughout a run so that I can go back and review the data.
  • I burn calories faster when I run outside in the cold, but I think it's just because I run faster so I can get back into the heat sooner. :)
  • If you really want to just see it on the scale, try weighing yourself the morning after a rest day. That's when I always see the lowest numbers.
  • I started running about a year ago, and I much prefer to run outside. However, when it's 19 degrees out and windy (which it was the other night), I go to the gym and use the treadmill. I go there so rarely that people don't recognize me, and I got "the look" when I stepped onto the last available treadmill. I did 5k faster…
  • Those are the BEST ONES! Most people don't even know they exist. They can be hard to find unfrosted though. I used to always buy up a bunch if I happened to come across them. I don't really eat them much anymore because they're not filling enough to me to justify the 200 calories per tart. :(
  • Great story. Thank you.
  • If you deactivate, they still see your account in their friends list. If you delete, they do not.
  • The most effective thing I did to lose weight was to consume less calories. The end.
  • Yeah, DD Iced Coffee black. If you have the calories for it, it's really good with just cream (no sugar).
