  • I usually do something like an entire chopped banana into a coffee mug, a scoop of ice cream, then some other seasonal fruit (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, etc) or frozen fruit on top. A squirt of chocolate sauce and I'm good to go. Not an everyday thing, but for a once in a while treat I like it. Using a coffee…
  • Some things I like to use: an apple, an orange, a banana, a handful of dry cold cereal, a carrot, count out 10 M&M's or something similar, chew some gum, drink more water. Sometimes the urge to snack is related to me being slightly dehydrated. Sometimes it's just because I'm bored, so I change what I'm doing and the urge…
  • Edited to add total for the month to date. Couldn't figure out how to edit my original post.
  • Aiming at 1200+ for 2012. I have several trail half marathons and maybe a trail marathon planned.
  • January so far: 1/1 - 10.1 miles 1/3 - 6.4 miles 1/4 - 8.1 miles
  • It worked well for me. I'm glad we did it.
  • This looks like fun! I'll join with a goal of 120 miles. Happy running everyone!
  • Black and hot. I roast my own and this week I had a nice medium roast Bolivian. Next week I think it will be a dark roasted Sumatran.
  • Yes. We've replaced beef in our house with bison and venison. Much leaner and very tasty. Because it is so much leaner it doesn't really make a good burger. It does make excellent meat loaf when a little extra egg white is used. It's also wonderful for tacos or spaghetti or chili.
  • Steaks on the grill this year in lieu of the traditional holiday roast beast.
  • "Best" is clearly subjective. Depends on what you like. I prefer trails to roads so I tend to like trail races more. North Country in late August is fun. Trail Marathon weekend in Pinckney at the end of April is lots of fun. I've never met a trail I didn't like, so I will probably have a good time at any trail race in…
  • Logging the good, the bad and the ugly is the best way to go. It's best to be honest with ourselves or we'll never see the outcomes we want. Even a terrible guess at the calorie content is better than no guess. Sometimes though, life interferes and a day gets missed. It's not the end of the world. Just get back on the…
  • Another strategy I use for candy: I get things like M&Ms, Reeses Pieces or something similar in the normal size bags. I'll pull out a few pieces and then roll up the bag and put it away. Then I make those few pieces last as long as I can. It's amazing how when a chocolate craving hits, just a taste of it will satisfy me.…
  • <== mjsmith1223 You can find me in the BF, the Trail forum and lurking in L&O.
  • So, is the different constant correcting for estimated pace? I am kind of slow, so maybe a little lower estimate of burn is better?
  • ^^This is something I am working hard to get better at. Not measuring and just mindlessly munching down the bag/box of whatever is my biggest weakness.
  • Hi ya Meagan!
  • Hi ya Chris. Nice walk.

  • Cadillac, NW lower.
  • Added. What part of Michigan are you from?
  • Stamkos. I'm not a fan of blank jerseys or the ones with my own name. If the player moves/retires, then I have a memento of their time with the team.
  • Interesting. In the past I've estimated the calories burned while running using a formula (.63 x body weight x distance in miles). I've always used the same for roads and trails because it's just an estimate anyway. Are you all using a HRM to more accurately determine calorie burn? It's good to know I can enter my own runs…
  • Great ideas everyone! I thought of something else tonight while I was out running: Knowledge. Educating myself as to the nutritional content of what I eat has helped me make better choices. I keep the nutritional info for all the common restaurants on my work laptop so I can quickly look something up when we're traveling.…
  • Hello everyone! My name is Mike and I live in Michigan. About 18 months ago I started on a journey that saw me lose 70 pounds, start working out, start running, and culminated in a couple of half marathons this past summer. Now I'd like to drop another 10-15 pounds and I just like hanging out with other runners :-)
  • Once a week for me. Wednesday nights at approximately 9 p.m. Not the optimal time of day, but as long as I'm consistent it's comparable over time.
  • Hi all! It's time for me to get back to logging so things don't get out of hand over the holidays. MFP gives me about 1500 calories a day which is pretty close to what CalorieCount.com was giving me awhile back. It just means I need to board up the kitchen so I can't get in there and snack mindlessly. Since I spend more…
