  • Lots of good advice here and it is pretty much what I do. I eat anything I want within my calorie goals, but I try to eat a balanced diet and use portion control. I don't eat a really low carb diet because carbs are what gives me the energy to do what I need / want to do. Again, it's a balance. I'm type 2 diabetic and had…
  • Congratulations! Great NSV - getting teens to notice anything that's not about them is difficult. Getting them to say something about what they notice is a huge deal. Keep up the good work! Hope you're seeing more energy to play with that great little boy of yours, too!
  • I guess I've been fortunate that I haven't had any friends like this so far. Also, I liked your comment about "ACTIVE, weird and/or creepy"! That's why I just smile and say thank you when my daughter says I'm weird.
  • Agree wtih this. I need help sometimes. I like to hear feedback from my friends but don't really need it to motivate myself. I try to be encouraging without intruding. I've probably crossed the line a few times but usually by expressing concern to learn more about the other person's approach to their efforts.
  • I have unfriended a few people, but only for apparent total abandonment of the site AND non-reply to mulitple personal messages. That being said, I have also kept several people who are infrequent posters, etc. for the same reasons in the second paragraph above as well as knowledge of serious health issues.
  • Woohoo! Congratulations on reaching your goal! You gave great advice, too. Remember your journey so far and keep it going.
  • I haven't the binge problem so much as I would just overeat in general. On the topic of the good food / bad food though, I learned a good lesson over the last year through my diabetic nutrition counseling. The counseling taught me that no food is really off limits to me, I just need to work it into my daily calorie and…
  • I am not a smoker (outside of a handful of cigarettes and about 5 cigars), so I can't comment on the weight gain or urge to eat after quitting. My dad did smoke though for years. Once he quit, we realized how much the whole house, furniture, cars and clothes stunk. So I'll just encourage you to quit.... Good luck!
  • No. Not by men or women.
  • Yep! I do LOTS better losing weight, not yelling at the kids, etc. when I get enough sleep! I'm still working on it but the whole "early to bed, early to rise" stuff, but it didn't get to be a wise saying by being inaccurate.

  • Best I owned: 1976 Chevy Monte Carlo - the one with the LONG hood and short back end. Black with White Landau top, black interior with swivel bucket seats. 350 V-8, alloy wheels, AM/FM radio with an 8-TRACK tape player (woohoo!). Sold it when I got promoted and got a company car. Best car my family owned: 1966 Pontiac…
  • Have you checked out the gym where you workout?
  • Welcome! I don't know that much about fibromyalgia, but I think you'll get LOTS of support here! Brent aka buckeyetex315
  • When I was young (10 - 12), Ernie from My Three Sons (played by Barry Livingston). I think it was the black hornrimmed glasses and dark hair. Yes, I once had very dark hair.... Brent aka buckeyetex315
  • Hi Rebecca - Welcome. I'm pretty new around MFP myself. Been at my weight loss about a month. Have lost 16 pounds. Started at 280 pounds and my goal weight is 200 toned and fit pounds. Feel free to send me a friend request if you wish. Would look forward to being your friend. I live in Austin, TX, am married to a wonderful…
  • I have mine set at 45 C / 30 F / 25 P, but that is only because my doctor doesn't want me to have more than 225 grams of carbs on a 2000 calorie daily diet due to my diabetes. I set the fat higher than the protein to match realiity. I find it hard to get enough protein without getting the fat. Would appreciate suggestions.
  • Live in SW Austin. Add me as a friend if you wish. I can always use the encouragement and support. Brent aka buckeyetex315
  • Sounds great! Good luck from another oldie, but goodie. Just remember, old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill. ;-D Add me as a friend if you wish. I could use more friends for accountabiity and encouragement also. Brent aka buckeyetex315
  • I follow the suggestion that Scott mentioned. Just have a bite of ONE thing. That is something my diabetes dietician told me - denying everything just makes you crave it more sometimes. Portion control is a good thing if you can do it. I have found that my craving for certain foods has lessened after doing this for about…
  • Acknowledging when you overeat or don't eat healthy foods is different than beating yourself up about it. I'm trying to learn to balance my diet and manage my carb intake due to my new diabetes diagnosis. I don't always get it right, but a LOT of the time I do. Celebrate those times when YOU get it right! I always try to…
  • Congrats on getting to the gym! That is something I need to do, but am having a hard time scheduling with my commute to / from work and spending time with my family. Just hearing that you went has helped motivate me, though. Going to try to head to the gym tonight.
  • Hi Scott - I live here in Austin also and have recently started using MFP. Keep up the good work. You're making good progress. Let's encourage each other as we both lose weight. I'm about 5 pounds behind you - maybe a little friendly competition would do both of us some good. I'll send you a friend request - accept it if…
  • Thanks, katcena. I would have NEVER figured that out and I consider myself at least a passable Internet user.
  • Sounds great! My first official friend...
