Agree completely. My favorite is EVOO and Balsamic Vinegar. To change things up we also have a bottle of Balsamic Reduction (think thicker and sweeter). EVOO and Rice Wine vinegar or fresh squeezed lemon juice is also really good.

Try switching your Omega to one of the Flax or Fish Oil liquids. Easier then swallowing another pill.

Agree completely.

Agreed. It does make it a little hard. The annoying thing is if you spend the time grouping them and then adjust one, it drops to the bottom of the meal. It would be nice if you could somehow reorganize or separate them after added. I imagine that would actually be a topic for another thread for new features.

I try to get in 4-5 servings of fruits and vegetables before the end of lunch. If I can get that done, then hitting 7 or more is easy to do by the end of the day. Save the treats for the end of the day as well.

Most used appliances: -Espresso Maker -Bread Maker -VitaMix -Crockpot - Pressure Cooker (ours is stove top, so not really an appliance) - Mixer I agree with the other post about good kitchen knives. Keep them sharp and use the right knife for the job.

Great Christmas gift! The recipe book that comes with it is a good way to start. As far as making soups is concerned, we use it to puree the soup and then cook on the stove. Although the high speed blades can heat liquids, leaving it on for 7 minutes is very noisy and not as efficient as the stove. Here is my basic…

I know you specifically asked for juicer advice, but I would like to point out that the major Con would be the fact that all the fiber is stripped away. Go the blender route and make smoothies.

Agreed. Without knowing how many servings you are currently eating its hard to get the full picture. The recommended amount is also different depending on which county you live in. Going from the average recommended amount of 5 servings to 10 would not be that difficult, but going from 13 to 26 would be more challenging.…

Great work in planning ahead. What about bringing some extra veggie sticks ( cut carrots, peppers, broccoli, etc) that you can have on hand in the fridge? They are low calorie, and a great way to resist the vending machine after 12-13 hours in the shift. If you don't end up eating them, then take them home and eat them the…

I know that this may appear to be unhealthy, but Buttermilk and Yogurt are the best tenderizers. I have used this in BBQ competitions. Just drain off the meat and pat dry before cooking. Highly acidic marinades (Citrus, Vinegar, Wine, etc) can toughen the outside of the meat. Enzymatic marinades (Papaya, Pineapple, etc.)…

Have been eating Bison for 4-5 years. Since it's quite a bit leaner you need to be a little more careful cooking the steaks and roasts as medium rare to medium is about as far as you want to go with it. Use it as a substitute for any beef product. We have a butcher shop here that only sells Bison, so it makes it very easy…

I think that whenever you are trying to introduce something new to your body, you need to start slowly at first. Going from no shake to two in a day would be a big change.

Not sure why they are called Hemp Hearts, but they are really just hulled Hemp Seeds. The Manitoba Harvest brand is available in NA and has a lot of good information on their website.
-
Hemp Hearts - Great in smoothies, on salads, or mixed in with cooking. For 30g serving there is 10g protein plus other good stuff Spirulina - Listing it since it hasn't been already mentioned. I only like it in green smoothies Bison - Very lean, lower cholesterol and higher iron then beef. We use it as a direct replacement…

Bison (aka Buffalo) - Not normally mentioned on MFP, but it is a great alternative. Here is a table that compares Bison to Beef, Pork, Chicken and Salmon. It is leaner then all listed. http://beechhillbison.com/buffalo_nutrition.html Spirulina - Complete protein from algae Hemp Hearts - Another vegetarian complete protein.…

Folic Acid is the synthetic form of the naturally occurring Folate found in green leafy vegetables etc. The only difference is that the Folic Acid is absorbed by the body more readily, so 0.6ug of Folic Acid is the same as 1ug of Folate. Just pointing out that you may already be getting enough from food without needing to…

Smoothies made with soy, almond, or hemp milk are quick and easy. Add protein powder, seeds, fruit and vegetables to suit your taste.

I would strongly suggest using a pressure cooker instead. You can cook rice in it through the "pot in a pot method". I just bought a cheap $5 stainless steel pot and chopped off the handle so it fits inside and is raised off the bottom. This site has all the info and recipes.…

That's a great rule. My wife and I have signed up for our first exercise class together in the new year. TRX & Kettlebell. It should be interesting.

Try eating with chopsticks once in a while. It's an easy way to slow down eating, and not a bad skill to learn.
-
That's a great idea. I am going to start doing that. We usually freeze the old/brown ones and save them for banana bread

Interesting article. Made me check the Greek Yogurt in the fridge.

Coffee - Black made with French Press, Clover or Drip. If it's from Tim Horton's then I add cream and sugar. Espresso - I like cappuccinos or lattes, depending on the amount of dairy I have already had. No sugar or syrup added

It's the Sulphur Dioxide that's added to the dried Mangos that I try to avoid. Yet another reason to dry yourself or find some that are sugar free and Sulphur Dioxide free. If you are not worried about that, then the Phillipines brand does taste the best.

I really like Korean and Vietnamese food. I generally find some of the Vietnamese dishes to be healthier as there is less sauce/salt, but eat there more mainly because it is close to work. I agree with the other comments that Bibimbap and Japchae are pretty good choices.

My wife supports me. She is the reason I am on this journey. She also does most of the cooking during the week, so I really don't have a choice.
