  • Vitamix or blendtec are the way to go. Perfect for smoothies
  • Blender all the way. We make smoothies every day. Easy cleanup for a family on the go.
  • We bought a 5 tray one last summer. Had it running almost every day when apples were cheap making apple chips that the kids inhaled. I would go to the farmer's markets and ask for all the bruised apples to get them even cheaper in 20lb boxes at a time.
  • They are also high in potassium as well, which is good. I like buying the unsalted raw shelled kind. Just be sure to measure out the proper serving.

  • I read everything. I am more concerned about the ingredient list.
  • I take the Barleans Omega Swirl. Does not have any bad taste. They have pill versions as well. http://www.barleans.com/omega-swirl.asp
  • Yep Egg-Head here. Competed in my first BBQ "Open" competition last fall. Have both the Large and Small versions, and take the small one camping with me. Tried smoking cheese, fish, tofu, brisket, ribs etc in it already and have had mine for about 4 years now.
  • Our kids snack during the day on fruit and veggies. Try changing the way you present them to see if they will eat more. We place a big tray of cut vegetables on the play table in the morning that they snack on most of the day. Offering them in the car is also a good time as they are bored etc. Try fun shapes etc.
  • The potassium/sodium ratio is important down to the cellular level for muscles, etc to function correctly. I changed my default potassium target up to 4.7g as you generally want to consume twice as much potassium as sodium. I agree with the other post that potassium isn't listed on a lot of foods, so I don't generally…

  • I really liked the movie, except for the emphasis on Juicing as I think smoothies are the better way to go. Flax seeds also will do the gel thing as well, and can be used as an egg substitute (binder) for vegan cooking.
  • We can't start anything outdoors until mid May. I didn't want to be left out so here is our indoor garden that will be moved outside in May. All the snow was gone, but we just received a few inches this morning. Have Lettuce, Tomatoes, Peppers, and Basil planted. Strawberries will be planted soon as well.
  • I add hemp hearts every day to my smoothie. I also like them in baking, mixed with yogurt or on salads.

  • Broccoli! I eat them raw with nothing else.
  • You missed the most important goal. How many fruit and vegetable servings you are going to consume per day. It should be in the range of 7-13. Going higher is even better.
  • Oilers!!!
  • It's not an issue. We keep them cut up in the fridge in a container. I would recommend leaving the container cracked open, or using one with a vent to help prevent a condensation buildup.
  • Awesome NSV! Great work, and have fun building the costume.
  • Great video! Challenge accepted.
  • I take 2 classes a week: - TRX & Kettlebell - 2 other guys in the class - Spin, Butts & Guts - 1 other guy in the class. I was the only guy in the last session I did.
  • The ones we are using a lot right now are: - Veganomicon - Quinoa 365 - Spilling the Beans - Rebar: Modern Food Cookbook We also have a subscription to Clean Eating (mentioned already) and really like Skinny Taste as well.
  • I would also add http://wendolonia.com/blog/ to the list of sites for neat lunch ideas
  • Spirulina and Hemp Hearts
  • We started growing our own veggies last year. Can't wait to give it another try this year. Probably start the seeds in another few weeks.
  • I have a Cylco-Cross bike, and love it. Think of it as a road bike with gripy tires. It's great for riding around on roads, gravel, and trails. A hyrbrid or commuter bike is also a good choice.
  • Just came across an article last week stating that the USDA has revised the zone maps to take into account warmer weather. Here is the new zone map. http://planthardiness.ars.usda.gov/PHZMWeb/ Background article http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/feedarticle/10062120
  • I agree that you should look at www.skinnytaste.com As for cookbooks, here are some that we use: The Sneaky Chef Spilling the Beans Quinoa 365 - Awesome chicken finger recipe in there
  • Try changing the way you pack the lunches. We have been making our kids bento boxes for the last 6 months. It's great because everything fits in a single container, which means less dishes to wash. Got the idea from http://wendolonia.com/blog/ She posts pictures of the lunches she makes every week, so there are always new…
  • Cookbooks like The Sneaky Chef and Spilling the Beans are great for hiding some healthier stuff in food. We have found several recipes in those books that our kids like. Smoothies are another great way to get a couple extra servings into the whole family. It may sound bad, but when kids are captive in their car seats and…
  • Container gardening indoors works well for herbs and tomatoes. Peppers and lettuce may be a little more tricky, but still possible.
  • Yep. Haven't made it out for quite a few years though. Isolated work environment and now kids. I have made it to the indoor gyms a few times and want to get in the habit of going weekly over the next 6 months.
