Yeah, I've never had a problem with carbs, given they are the right kind and also in moderation. What she suggested was pretty extreme in my opinion.

You haven't filled out any information on your profile.

I don't use a heart rate monitor, but from what I've heard and read, MapMyRun tends to be VERY conservative.

Going to get below 250 by my 30th birthday, which is at the end of August. Six pounds to go!

My ideal weight according to the doctors' chart is around 175. Now, even when I was in high school and a competitive swimmer in great shape, I weighed between 185 and 190. I can't imagine how sickly I'd look if I weighed any less than that. I've set a goal of 215 for now because I'd much rather have an attainable goal to…

This is pretty much what I spend half my life telling me sister. Who will end up caring for him if you end up really sick or worse? Take care of yourself.

I'm not giving up chocolate, but I'm giving up beer for a few weeks. Tough for a guy who loves it so much he writes a beer column!

I would need just one thing - a velociraptor with a jet pack carrying scissors.

That is blasphemy! Sorry...I write a beer column. Just a natural reaction. There is a lot of truth to what you say. Honestly, I just try to stick to having beer one day a week. Sometimes I'll just buy one expensive bottle, split it with my wife and enjoy it instead of getting a six- or 12-pack.

I can't justify the expense of a heart rate monitor, so I usually go with the lower.

I usually log what I eat before actually eating it if I know I may not have the opportunity. it's easier to do with lunch when I make it at home because I have already put together the meal, but occasionally I will try to project dinner and then adjust later if need be.

Yeah, we only have the third-largest city in New England...not much here...

Without any equipment at all, there's always the standard stuff, ie. pushups, crunches, etc. Housework, cleaning, etc., anything that you're doing for more than 10 minutes and elevates your heart rate significantly will burn calories. I scrubbed our kitchen floor last weekend and it was quite the workout. Also, in addition…

Thanks. Could have really used this at the race I ran last week!

Ludlow here, just outside of Springfield. We have our own exit off the Pike and everything!

It's all about shape more than size, if you ask me...

wgpjim, my proof, I meant any links to scientific ore medical journals, etc. I know that some people on here do study exercise science and they would be the ones who could point me in the direction of the information I need. Just because it's on google doesn't mean it's true either.

I for one can't go without eating breakfast, but I have known people who never eat it who are in much better condition than me. as it was said before, make sure you make up those calories somewhere. If you really feel like you should do something, make a smoothie to take with you on the go!

There was a photo of me at the Massachusetts high school swimming state championships doing the butterfly that ran across the top of the sports page of one of the local papers. I no longer have the paper, but the image is one that I still hold onto. I once got all the way to the state meet based on hard work and…
